VIDEO: Did Ne-Yo Crush Aspiring Singer’s Dream?
You would think after this fiasco Ne-Yo would be a bit more careful about what he says when he’s on video. He was caught telling an up and coming singer–who had asked for his advice–that if she wanted to stand on the same stage as Beyonce, “she needed to lose a few pounds.”
He went on to say that if she wanted to “go the Jill Scott/Chrisette Michele neo-soul route”, she’s fine the way she is. But as for the “shallow mother f**kers in the pop world,” they want you thin and curvy. Unless you get an Oscar first like Jennifer Hudson. He also says Beyonce is naturally a big girl and people have no idea how hard she has to work. Homegirl looked like she slightly had her feelings hurt. Wow. They do say the industry can be harsh….
Check out Ne-Yo’s advice below:

« Previous 1 2well he wasnt mean but he could of said it and a little nice ways because i think a big girl can sing more good than a lil skinny girl that just me but like he said if you wont to be on top yeah you have to workout and go to the gym and that the true
Truth or not..that is why the music is whack now days. We are too busy accepting other people’s ideas and playing “simon says”. Please.
I am glad that they posted the video, because going off of the editorial you would think that he was rude. He was honest and polite with, I mean it’s just the truth…
She sounds more neo-soul than anything. But yeah thats real talk from neyo
I think Ne-Yo was very real and honest. I don’t think he was mean or cruel, he just told her like it is. And the young lady does have a nice voice and I hope she will get a chance to blossom in the music industry.
She got personal advice from a star. Being someone who is in the biz, he was very nice in his tone and complimented her on her voice. He was very honest and she received something many would die for. People hate Simon on ANI or whatever, but he is typical.
He Ne-yo was just telling her the truth.Music industry is not about who can sing it more about who looks good, whether you can sing is irrelevant (see) ASHANTI. Any one that’s planning on a music sing career need to get a tough skin,If that hurt her feelings she’s not going to make it.
He was being honest with her so what’s the problem?
He was just telling her the truth..right or wrong he is right…And hopefully Neyo is not gay that would be a waste…
he’s right – that’s why music sucks so bad.
the buggles had it right, 30 years later, it’s more evident now than ever.
the “music business” is more about business than it is about music.
it shouldn’t matter if she’s fit, she’s a singer, not a marathon runner – but he told her the truth and provided some other valuable advice, as well.
