I agree. After all we’ve seen and heard over the last few years, Em has fallen off, Jay is so-so and Wayne is the one everyone looks for as talent.
But as acts like Kanye, the aforementioned Pharrell and newcomer Drake inject some new blood, where’s the wave of inspirational acts that give fans those euphoric feelings of happiness and excitement like back in the days when the Tunnel was poppin’?
Check out what Pharrell had to say below:

« Previous 1 2I said this before on another commentabout drake singning his $2mil deal. If hip hop aint dead it sure is weak. I saw that beacause its becoming full on no talent peoples. I hate on no one believe that for making money or being in the game. Its when rappers talk about the same as others ad have no creativity behind it. This phase of lets make a dance song fast and call our self rappers phase is ridiculous. It seems like anybody can get a record deal just for standin behind a mic. What happened to individuallity. Or learning from the last great peron but putting your on spin on it.
Then we talk about all these great artist but the album comes out we dont go buy it the wonder why they havent been seen after that or why they came with a second album and it was completly differnt than excpected. If like an artist we need to not bootleg the album and pass it to all are friends because no one benifits from that.
DSBG2006 im disappointed in y u dont like drake. Im not tryin to say you have to like him but your reason for not is weak. Im mean cause hes from canada, hes used to play on a corny show, and his style favors wayne and buddens. Come on man lets be real. I admit they probrably are working on a new image for him but artist dosent the industry work with. If you think about Jay-Z had to change his style of rap before really getting noticed. Nas didnt come out the gate hot. Flo rida hd a huge image change. Pharrell was already differnt from everbody. Ace Hood went through an image change. Thats how the industry goes. He was on degrassi so what. LL cool j, eve, wiil smth, common, mos def, p diddy, dmx, bow wow, and who ever else i forgot all make music that sells and the had a show or act so lets not hate cause he did. Drake dont rap about any real hood stuff so him being from canada has nothing to do with any thing.
Last if u look at the 2 best selling rappers after big and pac u got jay-z and wayne and if u follow them from the begining u would see they altered the way the rap before really selling records so y not follow in their footsteps.
How is hip hop dead? Stop sayin dumb s**t idiots. Everything changes and evolves, just like ain’t nobody rappin like “Rappers Delight” no more. Things change, i’m sure the people back in the day that listened to that old school is like hip hop is dead when NWA came out and groups after that eara.
So stop it please, stop the stupid talk. Hip Hop is always gonna change and evolve so just keep listening and watch as it will change and change and change.
Hip Hop will be here until infinity. I’m 29 and I remember back in the day my dad was like man that stuff ya’ll be listening to gonna soon die out. He was like that rap stuff ain’t gonna last too much longer. Now look the s**t still here and is a staple of the music industry.
Keep making the good music my niggas all ya’ll. Keep the Autotune crackin, keep the snappin, keep the gangsta gangsta, keep rappin with niggas singing on the track; keep the the rappin with the R&B artist singing on the joint like my man R Kelly.
But becareful of fake artists trying to infiltrate and copy styles and say this and say that, but their image don’t match up, hint {Drake}. That’s why he never signed a record deal before now, dude his image is horrible. He tries to rap like Wayne & Joe Budden, but them niggas got street swag with they game. This nigga from Canada from a freakin gay ass T.V. show come on now. Don’t be fooled by bulls**t people!!!!!!!!!!

@illkid
I have to respectfully disagree with you there. We have real talent that COULD make it today out there today if people could HEAR them. We have allowed out radio waves to be hijacked by big conglomerate corporations who could not care less about talent or substance. Its all about the bottom line and the future bottom line. A lot of the music and imagery we consume now is strategic. Its designed to make you a good consumer in the future by shaping the way we see the world and molding our self image. That’s why there is no “feel good” music or “music of substance”. They don’t want you thinking critically. They want you buying into foolishness that you will hate yourself for tomorrow. Then they’ll sell you a product that will make you feel better about that too. But listen to Jasmine Sullivan, Jennifer Hudson, Reuben Studdard. Real music is being made…it just can’t get airplay. The people are hungry, they just don’t have access to the dinner table.
Eminem fallin off and Jay-Z so so….who writes these articles 15 yr olds, both of those guys have secured there spots as legends get outta here with that favoritism B.S
We are out here all over the world. But with all the individual women singers that we have jumping around in leotards,or sliding around humping the ground i wouldn’t last five seconds in the shady music industry, after all sex sells.
“Where’s the talent? _Pharrell put your money where your mouth is the time is now we went from LSD to the Potomac. Where is been all along In Uncrown’d city (Chi) and up 94 E
To the D.
wheres the talent in v.a. yo we got alot going on we here and dominant euro plural yup
good job
for the past 10 years i found myself bored with the entertainment industry for all those reasons. i never cared how good a person looks when i buy their music, just how good they sound. it is good to hear somebody step back into reality and say something about music we suppose to enjoy and listen to. lol maybe thats the reason i still listen to music from the 70’s 80’s and 90’s. and all my friends tell me i act like im old. but s**t music today has no content. so… kudos to Pharrell for everything he said. no need for me to say anymore
The problem with the game is most of the dudes in it some straight w***es.Its that simple.
well I am fresh air to the hip-hop game thats right. The talent is here Ill Will as soon as I handle my legal problems the game is mine. Don’t hate on Gucci ill kid he put in his work and finally got out of Jezzy shadow its his time to shine….
s**t the people that really got talent aren’t given a chance…the industry got to many performers and not artists/musicians
hooray for you! about time ive been b***hin about that for a while. please please bring on the talent (producers). most of these young artist groups sound the same. cheerleader music. I want some more soul, feeling good type of music. not shake your booty like a dog music all the time.
There is talent out there. The question should really be where is the support. What happened to all those kids who bought that 1st Public Enemy album? Those who demanded that substance be in the music that they bought. As long as people keep shaking their asses to the rubish of lil Wayne’s and Gucci Manes all of the other androids,we’re stuck in this hell hole. The music industry feeds off the energy from those who support those with no talent.True thought has been out of style for a long time.I’ve noticed the wacker enertainment got the less people cared.Today, you’ll be lucky to see a music video and that goes for MTV and BET and whatever other stations. You get reality shows that aren’t real at all. These are on the idiot box for a reason.Cause that what a huge mass of people want to see.
Aretha Franklin would never make it today if she was a starving artist during this time frame. She would be compared to Beyonce and then tossed out a window.Even though she would slay Beyonce on any stage on any given night, she wouldn’t have the look….Isn’t that a part of how Diddy judged the peeps on “Making the Band”? Would she make it on his show????? REALLY???
Yes! Finally, s**t is making sense around here!
