Who’s The King?: Scarface Vs. Gucci Mane

You guys went in on our newspiece about Gucci Mane and the “New South” covering July’s issue of XXL Magazine [click here to read]. Adding a poll with the question, “Who’s the ‘King of the South’ now that T.I.’s in jail?” [click here to read] found y’all weighing your opinion in the comments section and voting like crazy.

But with a tie (43% to be exact) – the battle for the South’s crown has come down to H-Town legend Scarface and MTV’s young prospect, Gucci Mane! Both have a penchant for penning lyrics the streets wanna hear, both have had their run-ins with beef and are well versed in their field at sharing stories.

    Man, yall are out of line for this one. First off you guys are comparing a legend to a new schooler. Especially since Face has been in the game longer. That’s just like saying Souja Boy can eat up Bow Wow in a battle(by the way that wont happen). This articles a joke right? And I wouldn’t say T.I’s the king of the south the King of A TL well maybe. But you got to think about Who’s lyrics has more a meaning, who’s the better story teller. Rather than who’s beat is the Hottest. I think that’s when this subject goes wrong. The beat the music is what really sales the song. Then there’s the lyrics. If you were to get rid of the beat and actually listen to the story being told then from there can you find the true King of the South North, East, and West. Don’t get side tracked by hot Hot the beat is because if you do that then you’d be on a whole different subject.

    This is comedy – I like TI and Luda but lyrically – FACE has been the king of the South for damn near 2 Decades. Cats didn’t even knew the south had rappers until they Heard Ghetto Boys – so stop playing

    Funny how people keep saying TI but if you look back, when TI first came out or even after that, nobody said it, that’s why in articles they say “self proclaimed” cause he gave his self that crown, nobody in rap said it, I don’t think he is, I’d give it to Outkast before TI, what has TI done that would make him king? Outkast went Diamond I don’t think all of TI’s albums sold that much…lol. Hell 3000 or Big Boi lyrically are better I mean what do you base King status on?
