Did Al Sharpton Shut Down Chris Brown?

By Jerry Barrow, Senior Editor June 28, 2009 9:27 pm

While most of Black entertainment was on hand to pay to tribute to Michael Jackson at this weekend’s BET Awards, a rumor has been spreading that Rev. Al Sharpton kept Chris Brown from participating in any onstage tributes.

On June 22nd Brown plead guilty to one count of aggravated assault against his former girlfriend Rihanna, but is among many performers who owe their style to late Michael Jackson.

However, Rev. Al Sharpton denied having any hand in Chris Brown not performing:

Let’s just hope that Mr. Brown had some tact and decided to lay low of his own volition.

The bet awards would have been so much better with chris brown no one can do mike like chris brown people need to let this chris brown and rihanna things go it’s over I believe if mike had to pick one person to do him on the dance and singing tip it would be chris brown that would have been a moment in history. tell jay and b to mind their business and tend to their marriage

we all have a past and chris brown should not have been shut out because of his actions
you can tell by his dancing that michael jackson was a big influence, and he should have been able to honor his memory. jay z nor al sharpton’s opinions should not have mattered in this matter

Chris Brown is a young man with a clean record prior to the altercation with Rhianna. At his age the older generation of men should be embracing him and attempting to help him. We are quit to turn our backs on people when something goes wrong as we did Michael Jackson at one time. Those same people at the BET awards that felt Chris Brown should have not been there to perform should be ashame. If BET can give an award to a man that is currently spending time in jail (T.I)a man with a federal crimal record (Lil Wayne)and possible few other rappers (Jay Z) that have crimal records, why Chris Brown not welcome. I pray that this young man gets a chance to do what he does best and thats perform.

You know, the best way to remember Michael, take care of our kids, stop listening to the rumors the media put out there; they the one that drove Michael into hiding; even in death, he they still bring back the past. Michael is a unique singer, he’s very rare and you will not see another one like him. “Lets stop the hatred and come together as one!” When he died, part of me died too. I will miss those good old south side of Chicago days. Rest in peace Michael.
