What Does BlackPlanet Want From Us?!

By The Urban Daily May 19, 2009 5:00 pm

We have some very interesting discussions that go on here in the BlackPlanet universe. Some get us a laugh, others stir controversy, but all of it gets YOUR attention.

So, what is BlackPlanet to you?

The standards of this new age medium are being challenged and discussed in length. Our nation has even been challenged, so why miss out on the discussion?

As our universe continues to expand, now, more than ever, the word “open” isn’t some corny late-night joke exchanged at the club. Now, you can affect change more than ever before.

This short and simple rant is simply to say that BlackPlanet has the opportunity to affect change of its own. But it’s up to you, as much as it is our own responsibility, to bring ideas to the table that will result in The Urban Daily keeping you up-to-date with the hottest ish on the World Wide Web.

Want more Skin Deep? Want exclusive downloads to have for your iPod? Want us to share our thoughts on pop culture that is outside the proverbial box?

Well..

Speak on it in the comments section and let’s make a change we can all believe in! Don’t forget to check out our Urban Daily ‘Noisemakers’ gallery below:

Sometimes young ladies and gent, people appears one way and underneath they are another. Black Planet has to compete with alot of Magazines and websites that doesn’t have our interest at heart, therefore, Black Planet is trying to reach out to the majority and thats the teens and young adults but what they haven’t notice is that our young adults are turning to the 70s and 80s music and clothes. Its hard to keep up with the times when your audience is getting older. So keep on viewing and giving your opinions.

STYLISHDIVA, DON’T BE SO HATEFUL! BLACK WOMEN DON’T HAVE TO COMPETE WITH ANY ONE! YOUR THE GIFT! LET THOSE WOMEN OF OTHER PERSUASION LIVE. THEY ARE BEGINING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ALREADY KNOW ABOUT US(BLACK MEN). LEARN FROM THEM LIKE THEY LEARN FROM YOU. DON’T GIVE THEM STRENGTH BY FEALING LIKE YOU STATED THEY FEEL ABOUT THEMSELVES.

This site has the potential to be a lot more than it is. There is way too much about celebrities and racist incidents and not enough about everything else that black people might be interested in. There could be a lot more content about stuff like literature fitness, cooking travel, music other than hip hop. Don’t get me wrong I love rap but it seems to me that a site called blackplanet should talk about the blues , rock rnb soul, and world music a lot more often. There is some religious content but not nearly enough considering how religious most black people are. It does seem like they talk about white women way too much. I mean come one it’s about to be 2010 and they expect people to give a damn about some celebrity dating a white woman. this isn’t the 1940’s I’m over it. the would be better off talking about nothing but hairstyles and tennis shoes than some of the silly stuff I see on some of these blogs. Where is blog about money management , arts and crafts, home improvement , the environment. If i want to read about rappers all the time I’ll go to allhiphop.com.

I agree: BlackPlanet has nothing to do with blackness, but I still LOVE the site and yeah I wish we could have only black members on the site, but you would have some people say that it’s racist…

I really don’t know what to say about this because I do respond to topics that are interesting to me but at one point in time I ws thinking that this was Rick Ross 24/7……Damn near everyday there was something new about him and 50 Cent and im like “This isn’t news….I don’t give a f**k about rick ross or 50 cent” What about important issues? and yes some of it is about the government…the only time we would hear about Obama is if someone makes some type of “Racist” remark…..nothing more really…lately I’ve seen a change on how the news is posted on here more different articles (hello beeautiful, elev8 etc.) it would be good to see something more than just gossip every now and again.

I’m just tired of people equating BlackPlanet as just a dating site. There is so much more on this site than just trying to find the next “relationship” This site can be very informative, and a way to network, connect with friends, and if you choose to, find love. But it’s not just a damn dating site.

I agree with Head Hunter 305, Black Planet has nothing to do with blackness. When viewing some pages, there are more caucasian males and females than there are African Americans. It’s frustrating enough to have to compete with white women and their entitled attitudes and pseudo superiority. But aside from that, I have no interest in meeting white males or I would go on Match.com. Black women should have a dating site exclusively for US AND US ONLY!

Even on black television programs, none of the shows can be exclusively black, there always has to be a “token” white cast member
that is usually not funny or necessary to the plot.
There is no such equality on white programs. They have no sensitivity to the fact that people like to view people like themselves. Last year was the first time I’ve seen Asians and Latinos in television commercials. Even on Taco Bell ads, the only thing Hispanic in the commercial is the dog! These minorities use as many products and spend just as much money as anyone else but minorities are never represented with the same enthusiam caucasians are. Inequality towards us is a way of life for most of them.
Since Black Planet is owned by Asians, it’s not surprizing that black exclusivity is not an issue.
