$40k fully loaded? hmmm, might switch from the Jap cars to American

The SHO is a nice ride. But the only thing I’m concerned with Ford’s flagship sedan is that the $40k sticker will push it too close to the near-luxury car segment (Acura, entry level Bimmers, etc). Also, Has Ford created in-house competition with Lincoln? Time will tell.

Looks cool. Glad to see Ford innovating.

Fords quality is not tops in the industry. Toyota is now trying to keep up…but fact is Fords have less issues than any other automaker right now.

No… maybe if they would have made it a little bigger and made it more of a luxury ride than a sports car then maybe… but right now it looks more of one of them fast and furious for taurus that them people be putting together with low income on the streets with them cheap body kits.

When they introduced this, they brought an SHO into the dealership for us to examine, gave all of us salesmen a presentation on it, test drives & whatnot…so we could be just as familiar with the new Taurus as everything else. The car is very impressive, it’s plenty roomy, and the HP is great. That being said, it starts @ $26k, and goes up to $37k, depending on options…not bad. The whole idea behind it is to compete with the luxury car companies of old….but even I think it’s too much. For that price point, you can go with a BMW, Lexus, or Infiniti…more reliable, better warranties, and they hold their value better.

I’m not sure ‘I’ would pay $40k for a Taurus SHO, but I actually see what Ford is trying to do with this particular model. It’s clearly aimed at folks who might want a modern and loaded big car, much like the Chrysler 300C or the Toyota Avalon. Or you could look at it as being the same ‘recession luxury’ salvo like the Hyundai Genesis sedan is toward the entry level Bimmer and Benz crowd.

If there’s anything Ford should be afraid of–it’s that they could be poaching into Lincoln sales.

Ford has some long lasting models..longer lasting than most..plus it’s affordale to buy parts etc. in the long run

Honestly ford doesnt make vehicles worthy of 40,000 dollars in my opinion. Why would I spend 40,000 on a taurus when I could buy a 3 or 5 series BMW for the same price. But no if I had 40,000 I would much rather put it as a down payment on a house and continue to roll around in my hooptie….makes more economic sense to me.

only car i would spend 40,000 on is a Lincoln MKS

You could get a Pontiac g8 gxp with better looks,415hp and save yourself a few grand because GM is dumping the brand.

Red Clay …………. Clearly you work for a competitor of Ford Motor , perhaps Toyota . No car saleman in their right mind would drive away potential customers from their own sales . The Taurus is just another choice of car in a segment that many people are interested in . My advice ? Test drive them all and make good comparisons .I dont mind saying I work for Ford .I don’t mind saying that everything Consumer Reports is now saying about us is True and VERY , VERY GOOD .For those that have the gumption to pick up a Consumer Reports to read about the current quality ratings of car companies ? You will be very suprised .

The funny part about Ford cars u never see no roll old school Ford other than old school mustang ford. So please don’t buy no Ford Taurus Sho if u don’t want ur radiation go bad.

No no no no no . i am in the automobile business, and I have sold Ford’s , Infiniti’s Cadillac’s Mercedes Benz’s for the last 25 years. If you pay 40 thousand american dollars you are a fool. Why would you pay 40 grand on a car that when you drive it off the car lot it will be worth half of what you pay for it. This is one of the reasons that the american automobile industry is in trouble that it is in today. No Ford Taurus is worth 40 thousand, and no Mercedes Benz is worth four hundred seventy seven thousand. But hey if you want to throw away you money like that I thank you because that is how I make my living. One more thing black people we are the main people who are buying these car’s that we can not afford stop throwing your money away.

Hmmm… A few months after Consumer Reports called the new Lincoln a ‘$40,000 Taurus’ (because it was a luxury car built on-top of the Taurus) then Ford releases a $40K Taurus? Is it the exact same car as the Lincoln, then?

LOL people are still caught up in branding it’s so funny to me what goes into a name. Up until about 4yrs ago Mercedes, as quiet as it was kept was having major issue with a few of their cars.

Here is the quick and dirty on the numbers since there are a lot people think they can get into a NEW car in this segment for 40k. These cars are the Taurus direct competitors:

V8 making 382 horsepower in E550 editions

2009 Lexus GS $45,000 – $53,470
4.6-liter V8 engine making 342 horsepower

As you can see compared to the Taurus’s price points in the segment it comes out ahead in value. I’m a car enthusiast so I don’t really see brand loyalty. A great car is a great car a bad one is a bad one. Ford has done a lot to improve its quality and can compete with all the other auto makers in the segment.

when you buy a car you have to look at the history of the company as well as the cars. Ford and Lincoln are the same company. there car’s are exspensive and exspensive to keep up. which is the companies way of making money. the taurus has been a s—-y car since it first came about and this will be no different. the SHO car has been around too, they are not worth the three letters they carry. they look good but looks arent no good if its in the shop all the time!

Consumer Reports is a great thing and should be required reading for people that still thing nothing has changed since the 80′s and 90′s. Knowledge is power. :)

I would wait a couple of years until the price goes down….a $40,000 car is too expensive for me (I rather make a down payment on a house) the value will go way down once you drive it off the lot….love the extra options…don’t know if I get the SHO because of the gas issue..I would prefer the regular one and to those who hate them, mine is a 2001 and I had no trouble with..many used ones are being sold in droves and been used a lot so they are a good car for the money BUY U.S.A!!!!

I agree with Chokolatesoul! Nissan all the way! I own a 2006 Nissan 1.8S that is twin-turbocharged for a bump in power to 278hp up from the stock 129hp! F**k Ford! It’s actually a sad thing that this is the nicest Taurus they have ever built because it was actually designed in Europe, not here!

Your top 3: Toyota, Honda & Nissan. Everything else pales in comparison.

HELL NO ..I know that 40g is not a lot of money overall but that 40g could be invested into other things–my home, my kids education( when I have them lol), retirement, savings( having a nice nest egg is a good idea with the economy..maybe take my family on a nice vacation lol.

With the added cost to finance that 40k, you probably will end up paying 45K – 50K @ 500 – 700 dollars a month for it so NO I WOULD NOT, not for a Ford.

Anyone paying that much for a ford needs there head exainmed… If you trying to be like the high rollers since you have 40 stacks to throw away on Ford just stack some more chips and get ya a pre-owned Maserati which a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte is going for about $74,900.00-$69,900.00 right now or a Bently something that’s gone last shyt you can get a new boy 09 Escalade for around $63,999.99 so I mean I’m just saying for the ones who have it to spend don’t waste it on ford.
