College-aged students are expected to have reached a certain level of intellectual maturity, and it is really sad that almost an entire room full of (black) people could not live up to that expectation. I can understand both parties frustration in this video. Karrine put herself on “the lack of respect market” when she launched the book. She should have prepared herself to deal with any and all negative responses. The college students(young adults) who strive to be better than that; Im sure do not look to her as a role model. wow!! I understand that Karrine wants to encourage college students I just feel her technique was a over the top, and hard, raw, and alot of nagative remarks which did not encourage the students, for example when she said they couldnt be rappers. I think thats a premature judgement, and no one should ever tell anyone what they can or cant do regardless if its being a rapper or a stripper … to each it’s own….and who are we to judge – or choose another persons journey or destiney .But only a fool could do such a thing.

Good day to all! i am absolutly proud of Karrine Steffens for being tru to herself-everyone has not taken the time to master that essential technique. Her delivery was rather raw but i think that it was on point because she showed who she is and she showed a realistic example of the society we live in. As far as her comments concerning rapping and balling-they were rather harsh yet tru to an extent, each person has a “manifested” talent or “gift”.

~Sad that anyone gave her book any relevance at all, espcially CSUN. I really don’t understand how her book became ‘required reading’ in a Politics of Hip Hop class. Other than being a groupie, what contributions has KS made to the culture of Hip Hop?? And for those showing love for her, why would you support a woman that is so misguided and has no self esteem??

She needs to be in a better setting in order to really make a point that I do believe she really do have a lot off good things to say that could help someone.

What is fascinating, and disheartening, to me is that people attack Karrine; for talking about certain black males in the entertainment industry, she was involved with. She caused harm to no one’s career, or person. Some had fallen from public popularity until she mentioned them. Males do it all the time; everybody knows the girl(s) in jr or high school, college, now sadly grade school, who is sexually active! Sometimes even when she is not, the rumor mill amongst friends is she is! I would not want my daughter or sister to be sexually active the way Karrine was, and dont agree with what she felt she had to do because I hold Black Women in very high esteem! However, little is said about jay z, when he admitted a return to selling drugs, after he made millions, in the music entertainment industry, because, “things were not challenging enough,” for him. His decision and action is held in high esteem despite the fact it contributed to people’s & a communities demise. Karrine has harmed no one except her reputation, and maybe her son’s future concept of her with what he may hear in his developing years. She is at a college trying to let young women know they don’t have to do what she did, and them getting an education is more important than repeating her actions! That is commendable. Question, does anyone know if jay z has helped fund drug treatment centers in his former neighborhood? Finally, with over 50 % of black children living below the poverty line in this country, Karrine’s morally questionable decisions & jay z’s criminal actions should not be at the forefront of our discussions, focus and energy in this country!
