UConn Football Player Killed In Campus Stabbing

STORRS – Jasper Howard, a 5-foot-9, 174-pound starting cornerback on the UConn football team, died today after an on-campus stabbing.

According to multiple sources, Howard, 20, was reportedly stabbed near the student union.

Howard is from Miami and attended Miami Edison High School.

State Police major crimes unit and UConn police say the stabbing happened just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Hillside Road near the center of campus. Police said two people were stabbed and were found near each other on Hillside Road. Both were taken by UConn ambulances to Windham Community Memorial Hospital. Police said the stabbing happened when a school-sponsored dance at the student union was let out. A fire alarm was pulled at 12:26 a.m., an altercation happened outside the building between two groups of people and then two people were stabbed.

The perpetrator of the stabbing is still at large, according to an emergency alert posted on the University’s website Sunday morning.

On Saturday, Howard had a solid performance in the Huskies 38-25 win over Louisville at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. He had 11 tackles and also forced a fumble and recovered it in the third quarter. That led to a 30-yard field goal.

    This shyt is senseless and uncalled 4, black on black murders, crimes, n hatred, hell black on any race ism, is a dam shame! These athletes need to be in bed and getting ready for school! It bad enough da universities is using them for sports, just so they can get a education, now this boy done lost his life, all because he wanted to celebrate life. This is fukkin sad, there should be some kind of way to hold the university responsible. I know his Dad n Mom are in disbelief, what a fukkin nightmare! I hope the killers are caught and dealt wit. GOD bless Jasper Howard’s family, and may he R.I.P. This just sickens me.

    Crazy how things like this show people that life, and another day, is never promised. This young man played in a football game and then lost his life less than 24 hours later….so sad :( Prayers for Jasper Howard’s friends and family….

    I may not say it with the fire, and language of my brother masculine31; however he is dead right, it is a shame that we continue to attempt to solve personal problems with violence. If you ask me alcohol should be illegal. I can’t think of one thing you can combo with alcohol and it has a happy ending.
    Example, alcohol and driving, alcohol and guns, alcohol and work. Usually if you mix things with alcohol the results often times are bad.Life will never be the same for this family, but I pray they are able to be a strength for others who may deal with senseless violence in the future. God bless the Howard family, he was a good player.
