Attention Idris Elba fans! “LUTHER” Season 2 will premiere on BBC America Wednesday, September 28th.  Elba returns in his Golden Globe and Emmy nominated role as the brilliant, but tortured DCI John Luther.  Expect twice the thrills and chills as Luther hunts down a mask wearing serial killer terrorizing the streets of London.  Watch trailer below:

“Luther” deviates from the usual ‘who done it?’ format of crime procedurals by revealing the murderer’s identity at the start of each episode, therefore freeing the audience to focus on the psychological cat-and-mouse games between Luther and his prey. Backed by a solid cast, suspenseful storylines and first-rate writing by creator Neil Cross, “Luther” is the template for the 21st century detective. 1. Idris Elba—Elba has come full circle. It’s only fitting that one of his best roles would be on the BBC, the genesis of his acting career. Elba brings nuanced complexity and passion to the title role. Luther is tortured by his genius and his impassioned sense of right and wrong. Years of working in the shadows has cost him his wife, and quite possibly his career and sanity. The line between good and evil is a thin one, and Elba is excellent in navigating Luther’s struggle for balance.
2. Ruth Wilson–plays Alice Morgan, a murder suspect who gives new meaning to the term ‘femme fatale.’ With her porcelain skin and flame-red hair, she is a portrait of both fire and ice. When Luther sets out to prove Alice’s guilt, she turns out to be his most dangerous adversary. Alice is cold, calculating and devoid of any sentiment or moral codes. Her nihilistic views fascinate Luther, but his obsession with Alice may prove to be his downfall. Morgan and Elba’s scenes together crackle with sexual energy; their confrontations slowly evolve into an unconventional friendship Luther will eventually need to survive his darkest hour.
3. Indira Varma—is Zoe Luther, a human rights attorney and Luther’s estranged wife. Through Zoe we come to understand the emotional toll Luther’s work has taken on both himself and their marriage. Varma brings a mature and emotional honesty to her role, and we feel the conflict within her as she attempts to move on from Luther’s self-destructive tendencies with her new lover, Mark (Paul McGann).
4. The Villains—”"Luther” features a rogues’ gallery of criminals that would make Hannibal Lecter proud. From a blood-drinking Satanist to a serial cop-killer with serious daddy issues, “Luther” creates an unsettling intimacy between the viewer and murderer. The violence is so visceral you just might leave the lights on long after the credits roll.
5. Theme Song—Trip-hop group Massive Attack’s “Paradise Circus” captures the dark and haunting mood of the show. When Hope Sandoval sings ‘the devil makes us sin, but we like it when we’re spinning in his grip’, she could easily be referring to the murderer or… Luther.

Edward Norton earned a well-deserved Best Actor Oscar nomination for his portrayal of a reformed white supremist trying to save his little brother from going down a similar path. A very hard-to-watch film, hopefully FX is going to air the unedited version. A must watch – particularly in these trying times. Be sure to tune in to American History X at 6:00pm.

Everybody Hates Chris, CW, 8:00pm -

MUST WATCH! This new episode of the Brooklyn native comedian’s life and times gets an upgrade on the CW. Chris (Tyler James Williams) agrees to help an androgynous student who needs assistance in home-ec in exchange for being hooked up with a hot classmate. Tonya and Drew agree to take care of Mr. Omar’s fish while he’s away which prove to be some funny results. Tune in to the CW tonight at 8:00pm.

The Chappelle Show, Comedy Central, 9:00pm -

Oh, how we need Dave Chappelle’s colorful color commentary right now! As we countdown to V-day, sit down with some popcorn and relax as the Ohio native spoofs a certain car commercial and satires a Kinkos-esque training video. All that and more at 9:00pm on Comedy Central.

Life, NBC, 10:00pm -

A student acting as a corrections officer for a university’s prison experiment ends up dead and it’s up to the stars of NBC’s newest show to figure out what happened. It’ll be my first time watching it, as it’s a first time that Life has made it to the What to Watch charts. Tune in at 10:00pm and see if it’s worth the wait.

Real Time With Bill Maher, HBO, 11:00pm -

Bill Maher will sure have some jokes for Friday’s newest episode of his award-winning political ranting extravaganza – Real Time With Bill Maher. After a hilarious week of bore-tastical debates and jokes back and forth between McCain and Obama, Maher weighs in with a group of talking heads at 11:00pm on HBO.

Three Kings, Cinemax, 7:00pm -

This audacious blend of political satire, drama and action brings three of the best and brightest of Hollywood together for this war-inspired flick. Desperate Housewives, ABC, 9:00pm -

The girls are continuing to make their run (which I hope won’t turn them into the new millennium Golden Girls) into the ratings stratosphere with another season of Desperate Housewives. Gaby and Susan get into an awfully delicious catfight after an altercation jumped off between their kids. Tom and Dave form a garage band after their wives tell them that their old. All that and more to digest if you get a chance to tune in to ABC at 9:00pm.

Making of ‘The Secret Life of Bees,’ BET, 10:00pm -

BET is stepping up to the plate with an in-depth look at the film adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd’s novel The Secret Life of Bees. Set in the early 1960s in South Carolina, the film stars Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson. Directed by Love & Basketball’s Gina Prince-Bythewood – tune in at 10:00pm to check out the behind-the-scenes look on BET.

Dexter, Showtime, 11:00pm -

I’m kind of salty that I haven’t had the chance to check out this show when it used to be on CBS. But Dexter is shaping up to be a guilty pleasure with Sunday’s episode finding serial-killer du jour running across an R. Kelly like individual; Freebo is accused of a crime that he didn’t commit and Dexter can’t do anything to help. It’s blood, guts and 12 Play on Sunday at 11:00pm.

The world continues to be in-peril as Wall Street suffers a devastating loss, the race for the presidency becomes more intense as November looms around the corner and R. Kelly manages to make the headlines. Tune in tonight at 7:00pm to keep up with all the current events!

This knock-off of the popular Ice Cube Barbershop franchise finds Vivica A. Fox in the leading role as an entrepreneurial hair stylist with flavor of her own and a cast of zany characters who inherit a Baltimore salon.

In this eighth and hopefully final season of the acclaimed Superman-esque television show, Clark (Tom Welling) is being saught after by The Justice League, but the new CEO of Luthercorp hopes to stop all plans for a reunion tonight on this premiere episode on the CW at 8:00pm!

Supernatural, The CW, 9:00pm -

In this fourth-season opener of one of my favorite show, Supernatural, Dean has been freed from hell and reunites with Sam and Bobby, but all don’t know how he has returned. I can’t wait to see how this season starts off and you can’t wait either, so tune in at 9:00pm on the CW, tonight!
