Lil’ Kim was once the Queen of hip hop and has now been kicked off the throne by Nicki Minaj. She has been on a mission for the past year to make the world see that Nicki Minaj has taken her style and ran with it. She came very close to creating a comeback for herself with the Nicki Minaj diss track, “Black Friday” but failed to follow up with quality music. After releasing the mixtape Black Friday in response to Nicki Minaj’s platinum album Pink Friday. Lil’ Kim made herself look beyond silly by declaring that she had become the highest selling artist in pay pal history.

If the The Notorious B.I.G. was alive today we think he would want Lil’ Kim to stop embarrassing herself. Here are 5 things she should stop doing:

5. Erasing Social Security numbers.

4. Dropping albums on pay pal.

3. Getting plastic surgery and bleaching her skin.

2. Using Nicki Minaj as her ladder to get back on top.

1. Beefing with Junior Mafia.

Once upon a time in “music business land,” the remix was heavily sought after and appreciated. Producers would put their all into creating a the spin to a song that will create a new sound. The way things go now… just add a wack rapper on a track and you have a remix. That wasn’t the case back when Diddy was Puffy, or Timbaland didn’t have muscles, and JD had braids. There are plenty of producers we could have picked to go against each other, but these are three elite executives that have shown consistency over a long period of time.

We chose three of the producers best remixes and pinned them up against each other.

P.Diddy

“Take That”

Diddy said he “invented the remix” but he probably invented it just as much as Trey Songz “Invented Sex.” You can’t deny that he has contributed some of the greatest remixes in music history though. P.Diddy didn’t create the beats for these songs but he hand a handful to do with remixing them. Let’s listen to some…

One More Chance Remix

Honey Remix- Mariah Carey ft Puff Daddy & The Family

Flava In Your Ear-Craig Mack, Biggie, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes

Diddy went in on “One More Chance,” the remix is 10x better than the original could ever be!

Timbaland

Timbaland was just honored by VH1 at the Hip Hop Honors: Dirty South for his outstanding work in music. Timbaland’s sound has been described as futuristic and refreshing. He uses beats and mixes that aren’t normally paired to give you a sound that isn’t normally heard. Let’s get into his remixes…

Get Your Freak On Remix- Missy ft. Nelly Furtado

Hot Like Fire Remix- Aaliyah ft Missy Elliot & Timbaland

Bounce Remix From Step Up 2 Soundtrack

“Bounce” has one of the craziest beats I have ever heard, this is getting hard…

Jermaine Dupri

Jermaine Dupri was also honored at Vh1′s Hip Hop Honors: Dirty South. He said he came up with the name So So Def during the 90′s when everything out was “Def” even Def Jam. He put the So So in front of it because he said he was just so much “defer” than anyone out. Honestly speaking- his music is definitely hot! Last but not least here’s JD’s remixes…

Let’s Get married Remix- Jagged Edge ft. Run DMC

Sleeping In my Bed- So So Def Remix- Dru Hill ft Jermaine Dupri & Da Brat

Welcome To Atlanta Remix- Jermaine Dupri ft. Ludacris, P.Diddy, Murphy Lee, Snoop Dogg

I don’t know, that “Welcome To Atlanta Remix” is tough!

The winner is… You Decide!

Yesterday Dream Hampton shed some light on this issue when she took to her twitter page to speak on Biggie’s best friend Mann being openly gay. According to Dream Hampton’s tweets, Biggie was aware of Mann’s sexuality and didn’t seem to mind. The photo to the right are of BIG and Mann at a dice game in Brooklyn back in the day.

“I remember when we were in L.A a couple weeks before he died and Big told me ‘Yo the n*gga Mann brought his boyfriend on the Ave.!, ” Hampton wrote. She asked him how’d he take that and according to her he replied, “That’s my n*gga. Whatever.”

You can check out the tweets below to see what Dream had to say about this in full.

Most of us can concur- moms do not like rap (for the most part). In fact they would probably ban it all together if they could. To them it’s degrading, arrogant, non- beneficial and probably raunchy. So what we did was put together seven great raps songs that a mom could co-sign.

We purposely left out the obvious smash hit “Dear Mama” by Pac.

Juvenile- She Get It From Her Mama

The ultimate homage to a mother- ” Where she get her class from? She get it from her momma” “Damn That Girl Sexy, Her momma got a** too” Where else can you find compliments for a daughter and mother in the same song?

Lil’ Wayne- My N*gga

Even though Wayne refers to his love interest as “My N*gga” he compliments her and says nothing but nice hings about a woman’s strength while holding him down! Mom would smile!

Biggie Smalls- Juicy

This inspirational song is honorable because it showcases a single mothers strife and achievements. Any mom would be proud to the woman in the video throwing something at the landlord!

Drake- I Just Want to Be Successful

Now what mother wouldn’t be proud when her son understands that being successful if essential in life.

Jay-Z- You Don’t Know

“Momma ain’t raised no fool.Put me anywhere on God’s green earth, I’ll triple my worth” That’s right, if Jay- Z was my son I would be super proud. Any mom would be proud to hear a young black man spittin’ knowledge.

LL Cool J- Mama Said Knock You Out

“Mama Said Knock You Out”- what an obedient son!

Lil Webbie- Independent

Bigging up the Independent Women without calling them b*tches- mom would applaud!

It’s Earth Day people, so prepare the electric cars, green paper goods, and recycled rappers. Yes, recycled rappers- the ones who’s voices and have been borrowed, chopped and screwed over and over…and over.

Very few days go by where one of the following lyricists aren’t used to help prop up somebody’s single. It’s true that recycling is good for the Earth but is it good for music? Let us know what you think!

Song Sampled: “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”
Recycler: Cassidy “I’m A Hustler”

Hov is known for doing his fair share of sampling of others (Biggie anyone?), but we can’t deny that his voice, music, and swag also gets used just as much if not more often. Jay has been sampled by at least 86 other artists and covered by 10 artists.

Song Sampled: “Top Billin’”
Recycler: 50 Cent “I Get Money”

Audio Two has one of the most famous songs in hip hop history so it’s no wonder bits and bites of the lyrics have been used by over 30 other artists. As recently as 2009 50 cent grabbed a slice with his super hit “I Get Money.” Lloyd Banks, Keri Hilson, and Snoop Dogg have all also sampled Milk’s vocals.

Song Sampled: “Dead Wrong”
Recycler: 8 Ball and MJG “Relax & Take Notes”

The Notorius B.I.G has been sampled over 90 times(most of them were probably from Diddy). Nicki Minaj, Ashanti, Linkin Park and Jay-Z have all re-used Biggie lyrics and or/songs.

* Plies also sampled the same exact song”

Song Sampled: “Shut Em Down”
Recycler: Notorious B.I.G. “Ten Crack Commandments”

While this particular jack resulted in legal action, the Public Enemy founder settled out of court with Biggie’s estate. Chuck D has one of the most distinct voices in Hip-Hop and has been sampled 141 times by other artists.

Song Sampled: “Dumb Girl”
Recyclers: Jay-Z “Jockin Jay-Z”

Run DMC have been sampled 148 times by popular artists like LL Cool J, Jim Jones, Method Man and Mario. Most recently Kanye West took the words “I see you Jockin J.C.” from Raising Hell’s “Dumb Girl” for the mixtape cut “Jockin Jay-Z.”

Song Sampled: “South Bronx”
Recycler: Jennifer Lopez “Jenny From The Block”

One of the most influential MCs in the game KRS- 1 has been sample by 139 artists. J-Lo tried to grab some street cred jacking the vocals to the classic “South Bronx” for “Jenny From The Block.”

Song Sampled: “La Di Da Di”
Recycler: Das EFX “Jussumen”

*Slick Rick has been sample almost 200 times by other artists (including himself on “The Ruler’s Back”) and “La Di Da Di” is one of the most sampled songs in the history of rap. It has been sampled by artists like Das Efx, Biggie, EPMD, De la Soul, and Tupac, etc.

Song Sampled: Eric B. Is President
Recycler:Ludacris feat. Lil’ Wayne “Last Of A Dying Breed”

Eric B. and Rakim have been sampled over 100 times and Rakim even reused his own voice on the song “The Saga Begins.” Most recently Ludacris and Weezy jacked the classic “MC means Move The Crowd” line for “Last Of A Dying Breed.”

Song Sampled: It Takes Two
Recycler: Snoop Dogg “I Wanna Rock”

Rob Base has been sampled by at least 23 artists including Luke and Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince. Snoop Dogg just got Rob some new publishing checks sampling his voice for “I Wanna Rock.”

Song Sampled: “I Wonder If Heaven Gotta Ghetto”
Recycler: Nas “Black President”

Tupac Shakur has probably had his songs and vocals reused and remixed more than any other MC. (Biggie runs a close second but he just didn’t have as much material to take.) In 2008 Nas took the vocals from “I Wonder If Heaven Gotta Ghetto” for the pro-Obama track “Black President.”

The first mistake you don't want to make with Slim of 112 is to refer to his as formerly of 112. According to the group's front man, 112 is going no where (no pun intended).

The first mistake you don’t want to make with Slim of 112 is to refer to his as formerly of 112. According to the group’s front man, 112 is going no where (no pun intended).

“112 is always forever. You know what I mean?,” says Slim who might want to consider a name change; one more appropriate for the grown man weight he’s picked up since the last 112 album in 2005. “There is no ill will between me and the guys, although I haven’t spoken to Mike in a while.”

Slim probably hasn’t spoken to founding member Michael Keith, because according to several published reports, Keith is declaring that the group disbanded after one of the less famous members stole a publishing check from he and Slim. On this matter Slim started to mince words.

“As far as the brand 112, no one person can control that brand. Only all four members can disband the group. So since all four members aren’t disbanding the group, 112 will always stand.”

Slim, who says he never wanted to put out a solo album, did just that with the release of Love’s Crazy –via Asylym– a set independent of his band mates and the famous Bad Boy stable where he once released four platinum albums as a member of 112.

“On this new album, you won’t hear a bunch of I’m sorries, take me back, I messed up kinda of lyrics. You’re gonna hear more solutions than anything. That’s just not my take on love period. I’m more optimistic than that,” says Slim.

Although Slim does admit that listeners might get a few “flashes” of 112 on his new solo set, this new joint is all him.

In the few years since the last 112 CD, Slim says that he has been keeping busy building his company M3 Productions, performing and believe it or not watching “Making The Band.”

“I’ve watched the show. And you know, with us, we had a more family oriented relationship with Puff. There was 112, Biggie, Faith, The Lox, Total. We were like family. Puff didn’t have to babysit us,” Slim defends.

And on the subject of Day26 Slim admits, “I’ve met them, they are a great bunch of guys, but are no comparison.”

Ouch!

Love’s Crazy which features appearances by Faith Evans, Ryan Leslie and Big Boi is in stores now.
