With the announcement that Floyd Mayweather is fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5th boxing fans are losing faith that the he will ever touch gloves with Manny Pacquiao.

In this interview Bill Danze of M.O.P. says Mayweather is the “best fighter in the history of boxing” but feels neither fighter really wants the bout to happen.

“Manny Pacquiao I’m calling you out,” he wrote. “Let’s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see.”

Pacquiao vs Mayweather is the one boxing match that fans want to see. Mayweather has never taken a loss and Pacquiao is the one fighter many think can end that streak.

Mayweather was supposed to serve a 90 day sentence for domestic violence, but in a strange twist of irony, a judge a greed to postpone the jail sentence to give Mayweather an opportunity to fight.

“My Jail Sentence was pushed back because the date was locked in,” he taunted. “Step up Punk.”

Mayweather’s last fight ended with a controversial knock out of Victor Ortiz where he dropped the fighter to the canvas after Ortiz dropped his guard. The bell had rung signaling the start of the round so the punches were legal.

After a failed attempt at a career in Mixed Martial Arts, backyard brawler Kimbo Slice has made his first foray into professional boxing. Saturday night he knocked out novice boxer James Wade in 17 seconds of the first round during his heavyweight boxing debut at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma.

Paramedics were called ringside after Wade was leveled with a right uppercut. He didn’t get up for a good 60 seconds.

Kimbo Slice made a name via videos of his brutal neighborhood fights. He made the leap to professional fighting in 2007 and competed on the UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter” TV show. He lost in his first fight to veteran Roy Nelson. In his UFC debut, Slice defeated Houston Alexander in the The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights finale but lost in his second UFC fight to Matt Mitrione at UFC 113.

15. ‘Diggstown’

Brutality and humor make strange bedfellows, which is perhaps why the boxing comedy has never exactly taken off as a viable subgenre. Still, there’s an exception to every rule, and in this case that exception is ‘Diggstown;’ the 1992 film, which stars Louis Gossett Jr. and James Woods as two con-men trying to topple an evil empire through the power of boxing, has its share of both bruises and laughs. A forgotten gem.

14. ‘Rocky II’

Before the ‘Rocky’ franchise devoled into (lovable) camp with villains like Clubber Lang and Drago, star Sylvester Stallone managed to put together one of the best and most underrated sequels in modern times. Though the climactic and triumphant return to the ring and the end of the film is memorable, the best parts of this movie deal with Rocky’s efforts to retire and his inability to find a place for himself outside the squared circle. A surprusingly moving film.

13. ‘The Champ’

A true old-fashioned Hollywood heart-wringer, ‘The Champ’ stars Wallace Beery as a washed up boxer called The Champ whose talents have been squandered thanks to drinking and gambling. After losing his son’s prize horse in a bet, The Champ returns to the ring in order to win him back — something he accomplishes only atthe cost of his own life. Beery won the 1931 Oscar for Best Actor for the part.

12. ‘When We Were Kings’

The 1996 Academy Award winner for Best Documentary, ‘When We Were Kings’ tells the tale of a boxing match too dramatic for fiction — the infamous 1974 heavyweight championship bout between George Forman and Muhammad Ali, better known as “The Rumble in the Jungle.” Perhaps the most famous boxing match of the last 50 years, the event was more than a championship fight — it was watershed cultural event for American and Africa alike

In the 25 years since he first stormed onto the boxing scene at age 19, Mike Tyson has seen more than his share of ups and downs. 

Now at age 44, Mike Tyson has been in a reflective mood, starting with the Tyson documentary which was released in 2008.

In a recent interview with Details Magazine, Tyson looks back at his past with much disgust.

Details: Twenty years ago, you were one of the most famous men on the planet. Is there a big plan for Act 2?
Mike Tyson: The first stage of my life was just a whole bunch of selfishness. Just a whole bunch of gifts to myself and people who didn’t necessarily deserve it. Now I’m 44, and I realize that my whole life is just a f*****g waste. “Greatest man on the planet”? I wasn’t half the man I thought I was. So if there’s a big plan now, it’s just to give—it’s selflessness, caring for the people who deserve it. Because I think I’m a pig. I have this uncanny ability to look at myself in the mirror and say, “This is a pig. You are a f*****g piece of s**t.”

Last night in Las Vegas Floyd “Money” Mayweather defeated “Sugar” Shane Mosley by unanimous decision improving to a perfect 41-0-0 with 25 KOs.

With the exception of some hard rights landed in the second round, Mosley was completely outmatched by the younger Mayweather for most of the fight.

“Sometimes you’re going to get hit with big shots, you have to suck it up and fight hard like a warrior,” Mayweather said of the second round where he seemed to be stunned. But he more than recovered in subsequent rounds.

In a very lopsided contest a more efficient Mayweather landed 208 total punches to Mosley’s 92. They threw 477 and 452 punches respectively.

The question remains now if Mayweather will finally fight Manny Pacquiao. The undefeated fighter insisted that he would fight Pac Man but only if he submitted to a blood and urine test.

“I just want to fight on an even playing field,” he concluded. “I want to be treated fairly.”

It wasn’t the battle with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. that boxing fans were hoping for, but Mannie Pacquiao still put on quite a show in his March 13th bout with Joshua Clottey.

In front of 51,00 fans at Cowboy Stadium in Dallas,TX Pacquiao threw three times as many punches as Clottey, an average of 100 a round, and landed as many power shots as Clottey threw. Final punch stats showed Pacquiao landing 246 of 1,231 punches to 108 of 399 for Clottey.

Australian Danny Green produced a big shock by knocking out Roy Jones Jr in the first round of their IBO cruiserweight title fight in Sydney.

The 40-year-old Jones, who was seeking a ninth world title, was floored inside the first minute by a brutal punch.

Jones got up but Green continued the onslaught and the referee stopped the bout after two minutes, two seconds.

After only his sixth loss in 60 fights, Jones, who had eyed a bout with Bernard Hopkins, has hinted at retirement.

DMX’s career as a boxer has ended before it even began, as the rapper has pulled out of an upcoming boxing match, sources have told AllHipHop.com.

DMX was scheduled to square off against New Mexico based fighter Eric Martinez on December 12 in Alabama, during an event sponsored by Thunder Promotions.

One source said DMX pulled out of the fight because his safety could not be guaranteed, while another claimed that the rapper backed out because Thunder Promotions refused his request to “fix” the fight.

BILOXI, Miss. — Roy Jones Jr. toyed with the crowd and with Jeff Lacy, stopping the overmatched opponent after the 10th round Saturday night to retain the NABO light heavyweight championship title.

Jones (54-5, 39 KOs) used a left hook to cut Lacy’s right eye in the third round, and both of Lacy’s eyes were swelling by the seventh. Lacy didn’t answer the bell for the 11th round and the referee stopped the bout.

Jones joked when asked when he thought the bout was in his hands.

“When they gave me the gloves,” Jones said. “My hands are still as fast as ever. I’ve got the quickest speed in the game.”

Former two-division world champion Vernon Forrest was shot and killed Saturday night during an attempted carjacking, promoter Gary Shaw said.

“It’s 100 percent confirmed. He’s dead,” said Shaw, who had two stints as Forrest’s promoter. “I will say this about him — he was a decent human being. His work with kids, I think people knew how much he cared for kids, underprivileged and mentally challenged people. He was a real decent human being outside the ropes.”

WSB Radio in Atlanta first reported the shooting, citing a police spokesman. Forrest, who was 38, lived in Atlanta and was an Augusta, Ga., native. He was shot seven or eight times as he chased at least two men who had tried to steal his Jaguar as he put air in his tires at an Atlanta gas station, Lt. Keith Meadows said, according to the radio station.

But Forrest had a gun and confronted the men, police said.

“The victim and suspect became involved in a brief foot chase,” Meadows said. “At some point, gunfire was exchanged between the two of them. The victim was shot at least once in the head.”

Forrest was fatally wounded by two semi-automatic weapons, according to police.

“At this point we have a general description of at least two black males driving a red Monte Carlo,” Meadows said, according to the report.

Police said the suspects likely didn’t know Forrest, whose girlfriend’s young son was in the car when he was shot.

“What can you say? Alexis Arguello, Arturo Gatti and Vernon Forrest all leaving us within 30 days? I think it’s a little much for our sport to handle,” Shaw said, referring to the recent high-profile deaths of two other boxing stars. “The violence, the guns have to go. Violence belongs inside the ropes. Not outside them. It’s just senseless. Maybe boxing ought to dedicate itself to keeping the violence inside the ropes and try to send that message out to the world.”

Manager Al Haymon was too broken up to talk about Forrest, the first fighter he signed to what would become an all-star stable.

Forrest (41-3, 29 KOs), a 1992 U.S. Olympian, was a former two-time welterweight and two-time junior middleweight champion best known for his two decision victories against Shane Mosley in 2002.

Forrest had beaten Mosley to keep him off the 1992 Olympic team but when they met in January 2002 in New York, it was Mosley, then widely regarded as the pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter in boxing, who was a significant favorite.

Instead, Forrest knocked Mosley down and dominated the fight to hand him his first pro loss and win the WBC welterweight title. Forrest outpointed him in a closer fight in the July 2002 rematch in Indianapolis.

Forrest won the vacant IBF welterweight title in May 2001 with a lopsided decision against Raul Frank in New York. It was a rematch because their first bout ended in a three-round no contest nine months earlier. Forrest never defended that belt, instead vacating in order to facilitate the big-money first fight with Mosley.

Brazilian authorities detained the wife of former boxing champion Arturo Gatti and formally accused her Sunday of killing him at a posh seaside tourist resort in Brazil.

Police said 23-year-old Amanda Rodrigues was taken into custody after contradictions in her interrogation and presented a formal accusation against her. Prosecutors will later decide whether she will be charged.

However, various media reports said Rodrigues had already been charged with the murder.

Rodrigues, who denies any involvement in her husband’s death, was the first to find the slain boxer’s body early Saturday inside the vacation apartment they were renting at the Porto de Galinhas resort in northeastern Brazil, police said.

The former junior welterweight champion was apparently strangled with the strap of a purse, which was found at the scene with blood stains, said Milena Saraiva, a spokeswoman for the Pernambuco state civil police. She told The Associated Press that the Canadian also sustained a head injury.

Police said Rodrigues, a Brazilian, could not explain how she spent nearly 10 hours inside the residence without noticing that Gatti was already dead.

Rodrigues told police she had a fight with Gatti after dinner Friday night and he pushed her to the ground during the altercation, causing her to sustain minor injuries to her elbow and chin. She told authorities Gatti was drunk and that a third party likely committed the crime after he went to the apartment by himself.

Witnesses had reported to police that the couple fought and that Gatti was drunk.

Authorities were told the couple was extremely jealous of each other and that Gatti constantly complained about her clothing when she traveled to Brazil, Saraiva said.

Acelino “Popo” Freitas, a four-time world champion Brazilian boxer, told Globo TV’s Web site on Saturday that he was a close friend of Gatti and his wife and that he “knew they were having some sort of problem and were about to separate.”

They had planned to spend one month in Brazil on vacation.

The couple’s 1-year-old son, who was unhurt, was handed to Rodrigues’ sister, Saraiva said.

The 37-year-old Gatti, whose epic trilogy with Micky Ward branded him one of the most exciting fighters of his generation, retired in 2007 with a career record of 40-9 and 31 knockouts.

Known for his straightforward punching and granite-like chin, Gatti captured the super featherweight title in 1995, when he defeated Tracy Harris Patterson in Atlantic City, N.J. He won the junior welterweight title in 2004.

Former boxer Evander Holyfield is facing foreclosure again. He’s behind on loan payments on two properties. The ajc reports:

Holyfield has grossed more than $248 million in the ring, but two divorces, several failed business ventures and child support
payments believed to total $500,000 annually have taken a toll on his financial well-being.

The father of 11 last boxed in December, losing to WBA champion Nikolai Valuev in Switzerland. His last significant payday came in 2003, when he received $5 million to fight James Toney.

Asked about his finances last June, Holyfield said, “I’m not broke. I’m just not liquid.”

Evander, maybe you should have kept your pants zipped up and stopped poking around while you were married.

50 Cent was recently interviewed by ESPN.com about his latest video game, Blood On The Sand. The G-Unit head honcho spoke about whether or not there was any truth to rumors that he and professional boxer Floyd Mayweather got into a fight.

“Yeah, we got into a little scrap, a little boxing match,” said 50. “Well, it wasn’t really much of a boxing match because he hit me in the back of my ear. He’s so fast, he’s just so fast. The thing about it is, everyone who is around him works for him. And for a second, he tried to talk to me like I was one of the people working for him. He tried to tell me what to do so I grabbed him. I snatched his little ass up then he hit me and was like ‘What’s wrong with you?’ We were mad for a second, but then everything went back to normal.”

50 continued, explaining the source of the scuffle. “He was going to do the match in WWE at Wrestlemania and he started telling everyone that I was going to be there. So everyone got all excited and started asking me if I was going to come, and I was like, ‘If you’re really getting $20 million for this, then give me some money.’ He was sitting there with a million dollars cash in a bag, and he kept telling me he was going to get me money for appearing, but I was like ‘No, give me some of that money right there.’ He had one million dollars in the bag, it was physically right in front of me, so why should I have to wait to get paid? Just give me that money right there. He wasn’t with it, and that’s how it all started.”

The rapper claims that he and Mayweather were “cool right after it happened.” 50′s history with the boxer is well-documented, as he bet $1 million on Mayweather in his boxing match against Oscar De La Hoya, and has remained friends with him since, even accompanying him to an appearance at Wrestlemania.

After former foe Vitali Klitschko called for a re-match of their 2007 fight, Lewis said on Sunday he would be tempted to return only if he was offered the $100 million sum, and nothing less.

“If someone wants to pay me serious money, $100 million or so, then I will fight again,” said Lewis, according to AFP. “I don’t have to do this, I don’t need the money and my legacy speaks for itself. But boxing needs me – the heavyweight game is so boring now. All the characters are gone. I would like to save my sport.”

“The fights have been so dull and one-sided. I couldn’t believe what I was watching,” added the former heavyweight champ after seeing the Klitschko-Peter fight from Berlin last month.

“Boxers usually come back or continue fighting for two reasons,” he said. “Either the atmosphere of the crowd or the money. Me? I don’t need either, I’m happy as I am. But I think the sport needs me and I love my sport. And I don’t like seeing it the way it is.”

So far Lewis has only received offers of $40 million to return to the ring.

“It would have to be nearer $100 million to make me say yes, but there are people out there who can get that kind of money together,” he said. “There are a lot of people who would pay to see me fight again. It would be exciting, for the sport and for me. And if I come back, it will be to win, not play.”

Lewis quit in June 2003 after he won a technical knock-out victory over Klitschko when the referee had to intervene in the sixth round with the Ukrainian suffering a badly cut eye.
