Fourteen years after their monster duet, “The Boy Is Mine,” Brandy and Monica link back up to deliver “It All Belongs To Me.” The track hit radio last night. Thankfully, the R&B divas didn’t try to recreate their Grammy winning single. However, Brandy and Monica are still laying the smack down on some cheating man. Actress/singer Brandy stopped by Wendy Williams today to chat up her roles in Season 5 of “The Game” and the upcoming Tyler Perry flick The Marriage Counselor. On “The Game” Brandy will play Chardonnay, a hustle-minded bartender who sets her sights on Jason (Coby Bell):

“She is a strong Black woman. She knows exactly what she wants. She’s feisty, sassy, and she has this dream, and that’s why she’s bartending and has her hustles on the side, just to get to that particular dream that will be revealed on the season.”

Brandy also tackled the rumors surrounding her and her Marriage Counselor co-star Kim Kardashian. Brandy made it clear that she and Kimmy K. are actually BFF’s in real life, and even offered some words of comfort on Kim’s impending divorce:

“Kim I love you and I’m here whenever you need me. Keep your chin up”

It’s been nearly 14 years since “The Boy is Mine,” Brandy and Monica’s R&B teen catfight cut ruled airwaves. But the two apparently are back at it again.

Over the weekend Monica, who’s readying her next album New Life, tweeted out some pictures of herself and buddy Brandy in the studio together along with producer Rico Love (Beyoncé, Usher, Mary J. Blige). “We have Both Been Blessed Beyond Measure,” Monica writes in the tweet. “14 years later. Love @4everBrandy.”

Love seems ecstatic of the collab as well. “My dreams come true on a daily basis,” he tweeted during that same period—attaching a shot of him with the ladies. “God is the greatest!! @MonicaBrown, @4everBrandy.”

What’s in a name? To many artists, that’s a loaded question. Most will say it’s not the name that matters and it’s the product is paramount. Others consider the name to be the most important. They reason people are attracted to the product because of the name associated. In some cases, the changing of a name places a public figure in the spotlight in an instant. Ron Artest, anyone? Metta World Peace? Really, dude?!

In the music world, the moniker of the artist holds equal billing to the music they deliver to fans. Mary J. Blige introduced a new name when she decided to start rapping. As a singer, she’s Mary J. Blige. As a rapper, she wishes to be called Brook Lynn. The Urban Daily writers were discussing the people in music who have tried or gone through with changing their stage names and the effect their decision has had on their career. Skylar Grey

Billed as Holly Brook was featured on Fort Minor’s single, “Where’d You Go” in 2006. After she made a brief cameo on TRL, Holly Brook faded back into obscurity. That is until Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Diddy asked her to contribute vocals to their hits in 2010. Rechristened Skylar Grey, the Wisconsin singer-songwriter received a Grammy nomination for her work on Eminem’s Recovery and performed with the white rapper and his mentor at the 53rd Grammy awards. Talk about a come up.

Cheri Dennis

One of Bad Boy Records’ many casualties was the R&B singer-songwriter, Cheri Dennis. After appearing on several tracks on Ma$e’s sophomore album in 1999, Dennis signed a deal with Bad Boy. Though fans believed it was the winners of the show, Cheri is actually the person singing the Making The Band 3 opener, “Ooh La La.” Her Ryan Leslie produced single, “I Love You,” failed to put any measurable dent in the charts and she retreated from the spotlight. She has reemerged as Cheri Coke, sporting blue hair and a totally different image. In a recent interview with XI Magazine, she let fans know what she’s been up to since dropping out of the spotlight, “I’ve been working hard, recording and just getting myself conditioned to get back into the whole music thing. I stepped away for a second. I severed ties with the label that I was once at. You all might know me as Cheri Dennis that was signed to Bad Boy, Atlantic. I got my release last February and since then I’ve been kinda restructuring my whole outlook on my career.” So it’s back to the drawing board for the songbird.

Peedi Crakk

The former Roc-A-Fella soldier has been plagued with album delays his entire career. Signed through Beanie Sigel’s State Property, Peedi Crakk had standout guest appearances on Hov’s The Bluprint 2, Freeway’s debut, and The Roots’ Game Theory. As his star began to rise, the Puerto Rican MC chose to change his name to Peedi Peedi to make himself more accessible. The name change had no effect on his rap career. He has yet to release an album and he’s been in the business since 2001. Now he’s signed to the internet based label, Amalgam Digital. When an album will surface still remains the million dollar question.

Killer Mike

Making his debut on the landmark disc, Stankonia, Killer Mike was poised to be the next to blow out of the Dungeon Family camp. Unfortunately, the streets have shown more love than mainstream media. The single, “A.D.I.D.A.S.” hit number 60 on the charts and that is his highest charting to date. Killer Mike left Big Boi’s Purple Ribbon All-Stars fold in 2007. He likened his departure to leaving the Clippers to go play for the Lakers. In his case the Lakers is T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records. Along with the label change, he went from Killer Mike to Mike Bigga. Neither the name or label change has had any effect on his sales because Mike Bigga’s last album went triple aluminum. No shots, just facts.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard

Is it really a surprise ODB landed on this list? The man had more aliases than someone running from the mafia. Though we loved the sheer ridiculousness of his nicknames, Ason Unique was the name he was going to release his last album under. Tragically, before the album was released ODB had passed away due to an accidental drug overdose. There was a lethal amount of cocaine and the prescription drug Tramadol, a synthetic opiate, in his system. Despite his death, The Dame Dash Music Group still has yet to release A Son Unique. In 2009, there was talk the collection would see the light of day on the anniversary of his passing. However, those plans never came to fruition.

Snoop Dogg

When Snoop was getting funky on the mic like an old batch of collard greens, he was known as Snoop Doggy Dogg. Snoop exited Death Row Records in 1998 and left part of his name too. Snoop claimed dropping the “Doggy” meant he was maturing and leaving all the negativity he dealt with at Death Row. After changing his name and image, Snoop Dogg sold 520,000 copies of Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told in its first week. His first effort for No Limit Records stayed within the top ten for the next five weeks. Snoop Dogg’s No Limit debut went double platinum by the end of 1998, but that’s nothing new for the Dogg Father.

Kwame

Kwame was the kid MC discovered by Hurby “Luv Bug” Azor in 1989. Kwame made a name for himself with his second album with hits like, “Oneovdabigboiz” and “Ownlee Eue.” By 1992, Kwame tried to change his image and leave the polka-dots and playful rhymes behind. Neither critics or fans were feeling his sexually charged raps and he soon left the entertainment industry. In 2002, K1 Mil emerged as a music producer. Fans were shocked to learn K1 Mil was Kwame. since switching professions, he’s laid beats for Fantasia, Dru Hill, and LL Cool J. Guess his life wasn’t played out like those polka dots.

Brandy

Brandy is your favorite singer’s favorite singer. Despite having hits on hits on hits, Brandy wanted to explore another side of her creativity. In 2009, she began rapping under the name Brand Nu. As corny as the name was, her rhymes were worse. With raps like, “I’m back like I forgot somethin’,” everybody told her to have a seat. Luckily, Brandy has shelved her rap alternative for now to work on her R&B oriented RCA Records debut. The idea of new Brandy tunes is a welcome reprieve from lines like, “I told you once/ I told you twice/ You got my shoulder cold like a block of ice.” She can keep those for when she’s sitting up in her room–by herself!

Diddy

We already know Diddy runs the city. We also know he’s the king of dumb name changes out of sheer boredom. How a man goes from Puffy to Puff Daddy to P. Diddy to Diddy to Swag is beyond me. I’m beginning to believe every time he has a product to promote, he will make an announcement about amending his moniker. Then again, who really takes Sean Combs’ name changes seriously nowadays? Nobody? That’s what I thought. His brand has become bigger than a name. When you see Diddy, you immediately want to buy whatever he’s selling because his story is what dreams are made of. Going from the streets to multimillion dollar homes across the globe is what the American dream is all about. As for calling him Swag, in the words of Cedric The Entertainer, I’m a grown a** man. That’s not going down.

Prince

When you make music as brilliant as Prince does, you’re allowed to do what you want. After providing the music to steamy bedroom sessions and provoking thoughts with deep lyrics. As The Purple One rode the wave of his success, he began to feel as if his record company, Warner Brothers Records, was stifling his creativity and began acting out. He etched the word “slave” into face. Prince, then, announced he would be going by The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. Actually, he was going by that symbol that nobody can pronounce. Once Prince became The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, he dropped albums in rapid succession to fulfill his contract with Warner Brothers. Once the contract expired, he returned to his given name.

Celebrities often accuse the media of instigating drama. While some dismiss any rumored fall outs with other stars, many fall victim to the speculation. A prime example would be teen pop tarts, Brandy and Monica. Last year, Monica was promoting her comeback effort, Still Standing. The Georgia songbird talked about squashing her beef with former rival, Brandy, in several interviews. At the height of their feud, neither singer commented on it. We’ve come to find Monica felt as if their feud was conjured up by media and industry personnel to drum up sales for the two R&B divas’ respective albums. “We started at a time when there weren’t a lot of us and, of course, they made us not like each other,” Monica lamented, “We were young enough to not understand that it was just for media sensationalism all together.” Manufactured or not, the ploy worked. Not only did their collaborative single, “The Boy Is Mine,” reach number one on the Hot 100, it stayed there for thirteen weeks. As both women are working on fresh material, The Urban Daily and I (@JaySpeakEasy) wanted to pose a question to our readers. Who was the definitive victor in their so-called feud?

Brandy and Monica had more in common than the public was aware of. Both were born in the south, Monica in Atlanta and Brandy in McComb, Mississippi. Also, their vocal abilities were honed in the church. Each hit the scene in their early teens and were painted as sweet fresh faced teen queens. Monica had a little more sass than Brandy. Then again, Monica’s material on her debut disc, Miss Thang, was more adult than Brandy’s love soaked debut.

The differences arise when you look at their journeys with fame. Monica started out doing talent shows and was discovered by producer, Dallas Austin. Brandy got her start acting on the short lived sitcom, Thea. Monica’s acting career was limited to a few guest parts on 90s sitcoms and the disastrous MTV movie, Love Song. Needless to say, Brandy took the cake in that department with movie roles and a six year run as the title character in Moesha.

While both rode the crest of success into the late 90s, the career hardships came in the early 2000s. Moesha was suddenly canceled in 2001. At the same time, Monica was dealing with the suicide of her then boyfriend, Jarvis Weems. Jarvis shot himself in front of the Atlanta native in a cemetery as they sat in front of his brother’s tombstone. As Monica withdrew from the public eye, Brandy was promoting her third disc, Full Moon.
In the midst of promotion, Brandy announced she was pregnant and married. It was later revealed her marriage was never legal. Professionally, Brandy wasn’t faring any better. Full Moon wasn’t the hit it was expected to be which led Brandy to focus on motherhood. However, Monica’s third album was a hit driven by the Missy Elliott produced single, “So Gone.” As Monica’s star began fading again, Brandy made headlines after being involved in a car accident, which killed a woman. The victim’s family filed three wrongful death suits against the singer. The cases have been settled out of court and the stress of the ordeal caused Brandy to become a recluse until her fifth album, Human, was finished.

For a period, both divas had dropped out of the spotlight to raise families. Both slipped back onto fans’ radar with reality shows and done with the long simmering beef. Having just entered their thirties, a genuine friendship has developed between the two. Brandy has stated how Monica’s comeback success has given her hope fans will embrace her new project. Coming full circle, the two plan to record another duet. Will they battle for another man’s heart or support each other as friends on the track? We’ll have to wait and see. Confirmed today by Pop and Hiss, Grammy Award winning R&B singer Brandy has signed a record deal with RCA Records. She returns to Sony Music Entertainment through a joint venture between RCA and producer Breyon Prescott’s Chameleon Records.

“This is truly a blessing. Breyon Prescott, Peter Edge and Tom Corson [RCA Music Group’s president and chief operating officer] believe in me and have introduced me to a home that also believes and knows exactly what to do with the type of music I’m doing. Breyon and the team at RCA/Chameleon are creative and forward-thinking and I am thrilled to be working with them.”

Brandy is currently in the studio working on her RCA debut, scheduled for an early 2012 release.

Longtime fans of Brandy may be happy to know that she is sidestepping the current trend of R&B stars like Chris Brown and Usher doing Euro-Pop records. In fact, Brandy says she’s returning to the sound of her first three albums.

“I’m not going for the Euro pop [sound] on this album,” Brandy told The BoomBox. “I like different styles of music, and that pop style is fine. It’s the type of music that makes me move. But I just don’t want to forget about my core audience. Just look at Usher. He did all his R&B in the beginning. Now he is playing around with the pop sound. And there’s nothing wrong with that because for years he gave us what we wanted.”

In the interview, Brandy admitted that her last album, 2008′s Human, was a step in the wrong direction. “I think my mistake on Human was that it was too pop,” she says. “I want to go back to the fans that want the feel and sound of Never Say Never, Full Moon, and the vibe of my first album.”

When people meet me, they see that it’s a character. 106 & Park, it’s a TV show character that appeals to 16 and 17 year-olds. I can’t go up there talking about gun play, drug play and put a tattoo on my face because that’s not who we appeal to. That’s been very lucrative for me. That’s lead to big deals with Sean John, It’s led to deals with Rapport sneakers. So from a financial perspective and business perspective it was smarter for me to act like that because I’m in a lane by myself. Me & Nick Cannon are in a real distinct lane that no other African Americans are in right now.

[So] I’m going right to the corny bank and right to the cheesy teller and cash in on it. And that’s why I think its good when I’m allowed good opportunities like “The Game”, people can see that I’m very dimensional. I’m a human being like everybody else.

Celibate people don’t get pregnant. At least if your name is Brandy Norwood. As is the standard practice these days, Brandy went on her Twitter page to deny claims that she was pregnant with Terrence J’s baby–or anybody’s baby for that matter.

“Now ya’ll know dang well I’m not pregnant. LMAO!!” she wrote. “But I might continue to crack jokes about it…so be alert:)”

Brandy has one child, Sy’rai Iman Smith, with record producer Robert Smith and announced several months ago that she has been celibate for six years.

The season 2 trailer for Brandy & Ray-J: A Family Business aired yesterday where Ray-j accused Brandy of being jealous of him. Brandy went on Lopez Tonight where she addressed the issue, and talked about getting her confidence back after a long hiatus.

She is recording another album and says she’s having trouble finding a mate.

I got my confidence back!

With Season 2 of Brandy & Ray-J: The Family Business kicking off soon it’s only obvious that trailers of the hit show will be released. Ray-J and Brandy are it again, this time looking for love, maintaining healthy relationships and striving to be better artists in the industry.

Ray-J showed how spoiled he was last season with his childish antics and definitely brought them back for another season. Despite receiving a perfect score from all three judges the day before, Brandy was eliminated on last night’s episode of “Dancing With The Stars.”

The elimination came as a shock to many viewers who expected Brandy and her partner, Maksim, to stick around after the judges asked for an encore of their perfect routine, but the viewers who voted have spoken.

Brandy is out.

Brandy and Maksim were up against Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol, and her partner Mark Ballas.

In related news, TMZ reports that a Wisconsin man was so disgusted by Bristol Palin’s routine that he shot his television and claimed that she only remained on the show because of who her mother is. (Ed. note: We agree with that.)

While Brandy took a hiatus to focus on her beautiful daughter, Ray-J took to the limelight with reality shows stemmed from his found super-stardom over a sex tape with ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian. The name of the album is “Raydiation 2” a grown man version of his third album Raydiation. You came to her defense during the Nicki Minaj paying homage frenzy what do you feel Nicki Minaj should have done(as far as paying homage)?
I’ve never said anything about her. I’ve never spoken her name out of my mouth, I just said I want people to pay homage to Lil’ Kim, all the MC’s out there just for all the work she put in and the style she has delivered and all the things she has accomplished as a female rapper. I just wanted Mc’s all over to pay homage to her.

So you have no problem with Nicki Minaj?
I don’t even know her. I love what she’s doing. I definitely respect Wayne and Young Money, respect all across the board. I don’t want people to twist my words which it did get twisted. Me and Drake talked about it and it’s all love.

How do you feel about being called Brandy’s Brother?
I still fee like Brandy is definitely the person who opened up all of the doors for me, my mother, my dad, she def opened the doors for me to succeed. If they still wanna call me Brandy’s brother, I’m proud of that.

How do you feel about Brandy opening doors for the female R&B artists out now?
Oh, I think she did WONDERS. All those artists Beyonce and Alicia Keys and people out like that doing their thing. I encourage B(Brandy) to get back in there and sing her heart out!

What is one thing that Ray-J does to stay humble?
Put god first, stay loyal to my team. In this industry there are a lot of snakes.

5 Reasons Brandy Has Been Celibate

In a recent interview Brandy Norwood admitted there has been no sex in her champagne room, or any room for that matter, since the Detroit Pistons had an NBA title. However, looking at what she’s had to endure in the last few years we can’t say we blame her. Here are five reasons we think that Brandy has kept her legs closed.

5) Car Accident

In 2006 Brandy was involved in a car accident that resulted in the death of one driver. She settled out of court with the victim’s family and told Tyra Banks that she hadn’t left the house for three months following the incident. While some people grieve by having MORE sex, it’s perfectly normal for someone to pump the brakes on their sex life until they get over the trauma.

4)Child’s Play

Brandy had a baby girl in 2002 with her ex-husband/baby daddy Robert Smith who subsequently threw her under the bus by saying they were never legally married.
“I am deeply hurt and shocked by the things that Robert has been saying,” Brandy said in a statement. Instead of a legally recognized marriage, she says they “had a spiritual union and true commitment to each other, and we still share a common bond through our (2-year-old) daughter Sy’rai.” She went on to say, “He is not thinking about her, me, or what we had together. He is trying to destroy my reputation, while using me and our daughter to get publicity and radio airplay for his artists. I am stunned that he is being so dirty about it.”

3) Burned by Mase

On his 1999 song “Same N*ggas” Mase put Brandy’s head game on blast by rhyming “Then they wonder why I want no family/ What I need a hooker for, gettin’ head from…”though her name was bleeped out it was pretty clear that he was talking about the innocent chanteuse whom he’d been dating. The line gave their duet “Top Of the World” whole new meaning.

2) Vibe’s “Sexy Issue” Cover (2004)
On the cover of this “Sexy Issue” Brandy was face down ass up with the caption “What’s Behind Brandy?”Needless to say, the “Full Moon” jokes just became too much for her every time she went out.

1) Ray-J’s Sex Tape (2007)

While she admits that she didn’t watch the tape (thank God), we’d imagine that the mere idea of your sibling’s sexual exploits making headline news would kill your mojo in a serious way.
