Even if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, life is going to have you face some epic battles. In 2011, hip-hop figures were no exception. Hip-Hop personalities were in the headlines more for their suspect behavior than any talent they possess.

The Urban Daily caught up with Genaro Patterson who is the author of the book, Promise: Never Make A Promise You Can’t Keep. The novel is in the street literature genre and focuses on the perils of life in the drug game in Sacramento, California. The book is based on Patterson’s experiences in the street life. He was sentenced to 121 months for cocaine possession, with the intent to distribute in 1997. He was also an artist on Death Row Records, however, he never released an album due to Death Row losing their distribution deal. So who better than to comment on the legal struggles of today’s hip-hop stars? Here’s what Genaro Patterson had to say about Hip-Hop behind bars in 2011:

Mister Cee charged with public lewdness for getting serviced by a tranny:

“Wow! That’s crazy! I can’t really agree with nothing like that. That’s terrible. When you get in that celebrity limelight, we really have to protect ourselves, especially if we have ways that aren’t normal. We really have to be careful.”

Loon, Felicia “Snoop” Pearson (The Wire), Jermaine Hopkins (Lean On Me), and Jimmy Henchman were all cuffed for separately trafficking various drugs including marijuana, cocaine, and heroin:

“The drug life is not a game. When you get into this life, you don’t know exactly what you’re getting into. Your thinking will surely change and it will go in a more negative direction. When your thinking becomes negative, you will get a negative outcome. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been famous or not.”

Tone Loc, Gucci Mane, Funk Master Flex, Big Sean were locked up for putting their hands on women:

“I think that’s terrible. I would never put my hands on a woman. Any man that puts his hands on a woman is hella weak. I think hitting a woman is retarded. I’ve seen men roughing women up on the street and have interrupted the situation.”

Machine Gun Kelly, Big Boi, Rick Ross, Soulja Boy, Frank Ocean, T.I., 40 Glocc, Juvenile, Waka Flocka, Webbie all being arrested for drug possession:

“I think marijuana hasn’t become legal because the government hasn’t figured out a way to tax it. The government knows its not a drug that makes you go rob people. Actually, it calms you down. It’s grown from the earth. I don’t consider marijuana a real drug.”

Ja Rule, Memphitz, Young Buck catching gun charges:

“If you live that rough lifestyle, it’s safer to have a weapon than to be caught without one. Compared to others, that’s not really a bad charge. However, if you get caught on the street without a gun, you could lose your life. If you’re not involved with that lifestyle, obviously you don’t need a weapon. My book shows you all of the highs and lows you might face living that gangster lifestyle.”

According to Allhiphop.com

Cash Money Records’ lawsuit against mixtape DJ Drama is a thing of the past.

The record label’s case was thrown out by federal court judge Miriam Cedarbaum, for failure to clearly state any causes of action upon which relief could be granted, lawyers for DJ Drama told AllHipHop.com.

The dismissal marks the end of the conflict between Cash Money and Texas –based independent distributor BCD Music Group, which was also named in the label’s complaint.

Lil Wayne in Vibe

In February, Cash Money filed its lawsuit against Drama’s Aphilliates Music Group, BCD, Makin Moves Entertainment and others amid claims that the music of Cash Money rapper Lil Wayne, was created and distributed illegally through mixtapes.

The suit, which was part of an ongoing case against BCD, centered around three volumes of Drama’s Dedication mixtape series as well as Happy Father’s Day, featuring music by Lil Wayne and Baby and Frank Nino’s When the North and South Collide.

Weezy sleeps through concert

News of the lawsuit triggered speculation concerning tension between DJ Dram, Lil Wayne and the mixtape community in general.

The turntablist dismissed the rumors in April as he noted how the accusations against him were “misplaced.”

“This is not a case of Lil Wayne vs. DJ Drama. Me and Wayne are good,” Drama stated.

“I am confident that this matter will be resolved quickly without harming the relationship between myself, Wayne and Cash Money Records.”

Cash Money’s lawsuit was an amended version of a previous complaint that was withdrawn after being served.

Despite the outcome of the case, BCD’s lawyer, Wallace Collins, Esq., revealed that Cedarbaum gave Cash Money until September 9 to re-file a second amended complaint if they choose to further pursue the case.

If the complaint is not filed, the dismissal will be deemed final and with prejudice.

Check this out, Red City promoters are suing Lil’ Wayne for alledgedly “sleeping” through a performance in the Bahamas last September. TMZ broke it first:

Red City Entertainment claims it fronted $432,000 for a Wayne concert appearance in the Bahamas. On September 27, 2008, there were plenty of lights and cameras… but no action, because Wayne was passed out in his hotel room. When he didn’t show for the performance, cops went to his hotel and found him unconscious.

In the lawsuit filed today, Red City claims it gave Wayne a $210,000 advance. The balance is for his hotel expenses and various costs involved in throwing the failed concert.

Michael Jackson won’t have to make a trip to London after all. The lawsuit filed against him by Sheik Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain has been settled “in principle,” however, both sides said details of the arrangement are to remain private.

After first claiming an illness could prevent him from flying to London for the breach-of-contract trial, Jackson agreed last week to testify in person. But Al Khalifa’s attorney Bankim Thanki announced that the two parties have come to a confidential agreement that they will sign soon.

“As Mr. Jackson was about to board his plane to London, he was advised by his legal team to postpone his travels since the parties had concluded a settlement in principle,” a London spokeswoman for Jackson said on Sunday.

Al Khalifa had claimed Jackson accepted $7 million to record an album, write a memoir and stage a Broadway show, but failed to deliver on any of the arranged collaborations. The sheik sued Jackson for return of the money.

The courts took the unusual step last week of issuing tickets to media outlets wanting to attend the hearing on Monday, in anticipation of the huge press and public interest his appearance was likely to generate.

Jackson’s camp is seeking to give his testimony by video link from the United States.

“It would be unwise for him to travel, given what’s he’s got now,” lawyer Robert Englehart said, declining to elaborate “for the obvious reasons.”

Al Khalifa’s lawyer, Bankim Thanki, called Jackson’s submitted medical evidence “very unsatisfactory” and argued his illness could be treated with a bandage “if the diagnosis is positive.”

“It’s not the first time a sick note has been presented by Mr. Jackson,” Thanki said, also without elaborating.

The judge, Nigel Sweeny, said he would decide the matter Thursday to allow time for medical experts on both legal teams to talk.

Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the second son of the king of Bahrain, claims that Jackson reneged on a contract for an album, an autobiography and a stage play, after accepting $7 million from the sheikh.

Al Khalifa also claims he spent $2.2 million for Jackson to produce a song in aid of the victims of 2005′s Hurricane Katrina – but he failed to turn up for the final recording session. He also alleges he gave Jackson financial support, paying his living and travel expenses during his stay in Bahrain following his child molestation trial.

Jackson’s lawyer denies the claims, insisting their agreement was not valid and that Al Khalifa’s case is based on “mistake, misrepresentation and undue influence.”

Meanwhile, Fox411 columnist Roger Friedman wrote of Jackson’s alleged illness Tuesday: “If this is like his famous “spider bite” from his 2003 trial in Santa Maria for another breach of contract, Justice Sweeney should be suspicious. A very inside source insisted to this column years ago that the ‘spider bite’ was caused by other activities and that no insects were involved. And of course, Michael famously tried to get out of his child molestation trial a couple of times by going to the hospital — once in his pajamas. Of course, Justice Sweeney should be suspect if Jackson’s “doctor’s note” comes from one Dr. Tohme Tohme. That’s Michael’s publicist, not his physician.”
