I hope this message finds you well. As you may know, PETA is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 3 million members and supporters dedicated to the protection of animals. You have many fans here.

We’re writing today after reading about your new fox-fur headphones design with Oscar de la Renta. We wanted to get in touch to urge you to keep fur and exotic-animal skins out of your Beats by Dre designs. Foxes, minks, rabbits, and other animals—including cats and dogs—are bludgeoned, genitally electrocuted, strangled with wire nooses, drowned, and even skinned alive for their pelts. Most animals killed for their fur are slaughtered in China, where there are no penalties for those who abuse animals on fur farms.

Forget About “Detox,” Dr. Dre Taking A Break From Music

“When Hitman and Chris “The Glove” and all these people were leaving I was literally walking in the building,” Edwards tells Nodfactor.com about how he came to work with Dr. Dre. “And I’m sitting there and my mouth just dropped at the way things went down. Dre was like ‘If you’re really about your work then let’s get it on.’ So I showed him some stuff and the first record I did for Dre was on The Wash soundtrack, “Riding High“. We had a sit down, drew up the papers and I stayed with him for seven years.”

Focus eventually left to launch his own label and pursue his own interests, but he stayed a phone call away.  In 2010 Dr. Dre released two singles and a video (“Kush” and “I Need A Doctor”), declaring that Detox was finally coming in 2011. However,  he abruptly announced in November that he was “taking a break from music”.  Given  the project’s many false starts most fans were not surprised, but few were less surprised than Focus.

“The funny thing is I told everybody it wasn’t coming out,” he said having worked on the album for six years.  “We have changed the sound of Detox [several times] over the years. When the leaks came out they still weren’t cohesive songs. So I know that Dre didn’t find what he was looking for. It didn’t come out like 2001. So at the end of the day Dre could have told the whole world it was coming out but it wasn’t ready yet.”

Dr. Dre even reached out to Focus…several months ago to discuss Detox. So the Atlanta resident, who just released his album Music of The Misinterpreted, flew out to California to see if there was any magic left.

Nate Dogg will forever be hip hop’s favorite hook man. In spite of his recent passing, his legacy lives on through his music and the experiences he shared with friends and peers. The Urban Daily pays homage to the late singer by sharing a few little known facts about hip-hop’s greatest featured player.

1. Served in the U.S. Marines.

At 16, Nate grew bored of the monotony of school. He dropped out of high school and joined the Marine Corps. He communicated, “I wanted to see if I was a man. So I joined the service as a litmus test.” Upon returning to Long Beach, he linked back up with Snoop Dogg and Warren G. The trio began to take their craft seriously and recorded a demo.  They christened themselves 213 after their area code.

2. Suge Knight delayed the release of Nate Dogg’s debut album.

Hale’s debut album, G Funk Classics Vol. 1 hit shelves in 1998.  G Funk Classics was completed in 1996. The lead single, “Never Leave Me Alone,” was put into moderate rotation. Escalating tensions between Nate Dogg and Death Row resulted in Suge Knight having the album shelved. When Nate Dogg left Death Row in 1997, he attempted to have the disc released on his own imprint, Dogg Foundation. Legal battles between the artist and his former label stalled the album even further. Once released two years after originally intended, critics panned the collection of songs for its dated sound.

3. Nate Dogg is the son of a preacher.

As a child, Nate began singing in his father’s church. His first church solo was at the age of four at Life Line Baptist Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He continued to refine his vocals at New Hope Baptist Church. He began attending that church once his family had relocated to Long Beach, California. Soon after, he stopped attending church altogether.

4. Never won a Grammy award.

In spite of being on a gang of hit records, Nate Dogg’s work has never been recognized at any award ceremony. The hip hop crooner has been nominated four times at the Grammy Awards and always went home empty handed. The first nomination came in 1995 when he and Warren G recorded “Regulate.” The most controversial nomination came in 2001. Although featured on the hit, “The Next Episode,” Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg were the only people credited with the nod. Thereafter, he received nomination honors for his contributions to Ludacris’ “Area Codes” and Eminem’s “Shake That.”

5. Snoop Dogg’s “Ain’t No Fun (If The Homies Cant Have None)” was a personal milestone.

Many were familiar with Nate Dogg’s robust tenor because of his scene stealing performance on Dr. Dre’s The Chronic. He, however, felt he still needed to develop his style of singing in minor keys. Everything Nate Dogg envisioned for his style and image was realized on “Ain’t No Fun..” Raunchy and misogynistic lyrics paired with addictive melodies and an unapologetic attitude became his signature because of Snoop’s track.

To counter act this beatsmiths have taken to releasing mixtapes of their work just to let people know that they were responsible.  DJ Khalil put out a “Grammy edition” of songs he produced for Eminem and Dr. Dre and even Double-O from Kidz In The Hall dropped “If You Didn’t Know, I Produced That.”

Taking note is Soul Council member Fatin “10″ Horton. The Greensboro, NC based producer got his start making beats for KRS-One in 2003 and has contributed music to Season 2 Of The Boondocks animated series.

“People know my music more than they know my name, so I’m trying to match it to certain things,” he says of his mixtape Missing Identification.“So they know going forward what to look for from me. Hope ya’ll enjoy the music.”  Take a look at the list of the songs he’s produced and download them for yourself.

1. “Da Beginning Of Da End” – From Heltah Skeltah’s 2008 album “D.I.R.T (Da Incredible Rap Team)”. Rock and P destroyed this beat . . . Gladiator style.
2. “Invincible” - Recorded in 2004 as part of a series of jams done when Ness came to NC and worked with myself, 9th Wonder, and Khrysis. There’s a vault worth of jams that he has with us that most of the world has never heard. This is one of them.
3. “The Cake” – Taken from Lloyd Banks 2006 album “Rotten Apple”. One of my favorite beats and the song Banks said was his favorite off the record. I need to give him another smoker, cause him and 50 killed this.

4. “Let My People Go” - From Pharoahe Monch’s 2011 new classic “W.A.R. (We Are Renegades). This song was 5 years in the making . . . and well worth the wait.
5. “Like You” - Off Sean Price’s 2007 album “Jesus Price Superstar”. First two bars of his rhyme are CLASSIC . . .
6. “Superwoman” – From Darien Brockington’s 2010 release “The Cold Case Files” . . .
7. “Next Day” – This was a bonus cut off of Little Brother’s 2007 release “Getback”. Straight forward and to the point. Heat. Word to my nigga Phonte.
8. “You Gon Go?” – From KRS-One’s 2003 release “Keep Right”. This was one of two songs I placed on this album (“Phucked” was the other) and I got my first “official” check for this. I felt it was a sign to have my first two placed tracks for pay with a LEGEND.
9. “Think It Over” – Another joint from the Ness vault from NC . . . Enjoy, because here may be the closest you see those songs seeing the light of day.
10. Desparada – One of three songs that I did off the “Jeanius” album (2-32’s and Smashmouth were the others). Jean came to NC in 2004 and recorded that album in five days flat. There’s a lot to be said for talented artists that work hard. That album was a product of that formula. Word to Jean and 9th for that look.

9. Noah “40″ Shebib & Drake

40 and Drake are a match-made in heaven! Drake’s primary producer has created the beats for “Marvin’s Room,” “Successful,” “Fireworks [Ft. Alicia Keys]” and plenty more. The Toronto producer has also worked with Lil Wayne and Alicia Keys but sticks with Drake!

8. Lex Luger & Waka Flocka

“Hard In The Paint” was one of Waka Flocka’s biggest hits to date. The Lex Luger original had the signature aggressive drums and hard baseline Waka fans look to the dread-head rapper for. Along with “Hard In The Paint,” Lex Luger has also produced songs for Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Ace Hood including the summer anthem “Hustle Hard.”

7. The Neptunes & The Clipse

The Neptunes, one-half Pharell, one half Chad Hugo, introduced The Clipse to the rap world in 2001 on “Grindin’” one of The Neptunes most notable beats ever. A Neptunes track can be identified anywhere. Their electo-funk and hard hitting percussion sounds are one of a kind.

6. Swizz Beats & DMX

DMX’s gritty rhyming style and Swizz Beats hard hitting trumpets make for magic in the studio. Swizz’ relationship with DMX helped him gain notoriety in the rap world. Swizz Beats produced his first beat the “Ruff Ryders Anthem,” when he was 17 and later, DMX’s club banger “Get It On The Floor.”

5. Kanye West & Jay-Z

Jay-Z and Kanye West may together just be an unstoppable duo. Having formed the super group “The Throne” critics and fans have already taken an even higher interest to the two. Kanye has produced nine of 12 tracks on the highly anticipated “Watch The Throne” album. Kanye was a very prominent producer on Jay’s classic album The Blueprint having produced “The Takeover,” “H To The Izzo” and “Girls, Girls, Girls (remix).”

4. Usher & Jermaine Dupri

When Usher’s 2004 album Confessions dropped it was an instance success thanks to Ushers vocals and Jermaine Dupri’s production. The two reunited after being separated for Usher’s previous album 8701. “For years, Death Row Records forgot about Dre when they continued to distribute his music digitally and combined his hits with weaker Death Row tracks in an attempt to elevate the stature of their other artists,” Dre’s lawyer Howard King said in a statement. “We are gratified that the federal court has unambiguously declared that Death Row has no right to engage in such tactics, and must hold all proceeds from these illicit distributions in trust for our client.”

As a result of the ruling, Dre will receive 100% of all royalties from the sale of digital copies of The Chronic.  Dre claims that he hasn’t received any royalties from the sale of the album since he left Death Row Records in 1996.

The 10-speaker audio system will be available this fall in the 2012 Chrysler 300S.

Celebrating Black Marriage Day 2011

Snoop served as an honorary pallbearer at the funeral which also brought out a who’s who of west coast hip-hop including Xzibit, DJ Quik, Game, Kurupt and Daz Dillinger.

“It hurts me so much to see this,” Warren G said during his speech at the funeral. “We been through a whole lot and that was my dog. He stayed down with me from the bottom to the top. I didn’t ever think I would have to sit at a funeral for one of my dogs. All I can say is that was my friend, me him and Snoop was 213 from the balls to the walls. The music industry lost an incredible artist.”

The rumor comes courtesy of the UK tabloid The Sun.

“Jay and Dre have recorded their verses with the chorus left open for Beyoncé to sing. The producer has worked on Detox for over a decade. He wanted the couple together.”

It will be the first time Jay & Beyoncé have been on a song together since Beyoncé’s “Upgrade U” in 2007.

Let’s hope this Jay/Dre collabo is better than that “Under Pressure” track that leaked last year…

Fast forward years later, and Eminem is rapping at his bedside until Dre magically awakens from the coma to spit his verse.
