Once upon a time in “music business land,” the remix was heavily sought after and appreciated. Producers would put their all into creating a the spin to a song that will create a new sound. The way things go now… just add a wack rapper on a track and you have a remix. That wasn’t the case back when Diddy was Puffy, or Timbaland didn’t have muscles, and JD had braids. There are plenty of producers we could have picked to go against each other, but these are three elite executives that have shown consistency over a long period of time.

We chose three of the producers best remixes and pinned them up against each other.

P.Diddy

“Take That”

Diddy said he “invented the remix” but he probably invented it just as much as Trey Songz “Invented Sex.” You can’t deny that he has contributed some of the greatest remixes in music history though. P.Diddy didn’t create the beats for these songs but he hand a handful to do with remixing them. Let’s listen to some…

One More Chance Remix

Honey Remix- Mariah Carey ft Puff Daddy & The Family

Flava In Your Ear-Craig Mack, Biggie, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes

Diddy went in on “One More Chance,” the remix is 10x better than the original could ever be!

Timbaland

Timbaland was just honored by VH1 at the Hip Hop Honors: Dirty South for his outstanding work in music. Timbaland’s sound has been described as futuristic and refreshing. He uses beats and mixes that aren’t normally paired to give you a sound that isn’t normally heard. Let’s get into his remixes…

Get Your Freak On Remix- Missy ft. Nelly Furtado

Hot Like Fire Remix- Aaliyah ft Missy Elliot & Timbaland

Bounce Remix From Step Up 2 Soundtrack

“Bounce” has one of the craziest beats I have ever heard, this is getting hard…

Jermaine Dupri

Jermaine Dupri was also honored at Vh1′s Hip Hop Honors: Dirty South. He said he came up with the name So So Def during the 90′s when everything out was “Def” even Def Jam. He put the So So in front of it because he said he was just so much “defer” than anyone out. Honestly speaking- his music is definitely hot! Last but not least here’s JD’s remixes…

Let’s Get married Remix- Jagged Edge ft. Run DMC

Sleeping In my Bed- So So Def Remix- Dru Hill ft Jermaine Dupri & Da Brat

Welcome To Atlanta Remix- Jermaine Dupri ft. Ludacris, P.Diddy, Murphy Lee, Snoop Dogg

I don’t know, that “Welcome To Atlanta Remix” is tough!

The winner is… You Decide!

Break, hiatus, disappearance, whatever you want to call it, when a good artist goes away for a long enough time we yearn for their reemergence. This list consists of both sucky comebacks and good ones, hey we even rated them for you!

The rating system is a cool 1-5. The higher the number the better the comeback. The artist will be rated on the comeback success, how long their buzz lasted, and how bad we wanted them to be back in the game.

Maxwell first appeared on the scene in 1996 with his Grammy nominated Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite. It went two times platinum and captured over audiences in a fairly new genre of music: neo-soul. After the release of Now in 2001, it took Maxwell eight years to make a “comeback” with BLACKsummers’ Nights. It debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Charts and sold 316,000 copies in its first week. “Pretty Wings” became the summers anthem and the album went on to win two grammys. The album went platinum and was his fourth release to do so!
Rating: 3.8
Maxwell made a great comeback but his buzz only lasted throughout the summer, not good enough for a perfect score but very close to it!

Sade is an English band that came out in the 80′s. They were named after their lead singer Sade Adu. Their first single “Your Love Is King” has gone over four times platinum. Sade performed at the Live Aid at Wembley Stadium, being the first African-born artist to do so. Sade had retired around the 2000′s but after ten years, dropped “Soldier Of Love.” It was very well received, and sold over 500,000 copies in its first week. It topped the Billboard charts, Smooth Jazz countdown, and Urban Hot AC. Their second single Baby Father will be released in April. Sade has sold over 25 million records worldwide.
Rating: 4.0
With so many accomplishments I couldn’t imagine Sade making less of a spectacular comeback!

“Somebody’s rocking, knocking the boots!” In 1993 H-Town released their album “Fever For Da Flavor” which went platinum and topped the Billboard charts.Their two albums after both went gold. After severing ties with their original label Luke Records in 1996, H-Town went on a spiritual search. They finally returned in 2010 with “Knocking Them Heels Off.”

Rating:1.5
Um, not quite sure about this one. Maybe they should have stayed away and left their “Knocking The Boots, It’s A Thin line Between Love And Hate” legacy as it was.

Ke Ke Wyatt is probably most famous for her work with platinum artist Avant, and stabbing her husband. Her single “Nothing In This World” hit number 4 on the Billboard charts and her album Soul Sista went certified gold. Her second and third albums were shelved leading to what seemed like such a long hiatus. Ke Ke released “Who Knew” in 2010 and it debut at number 35 on The billboard Charts.

Rating: 2.0
She made it her business to stop by Black Planet so she gets a higher rating than H-Town!

Sisqo, Nokio, Jazz and Woody made up Dru Hill. A group from B-Moore Maryland who went on to sell over 5 millions records. Though Sisqo had a successful solo career, and the group fluctuated members several times, Dru hill is still together. They have set their album to release on June 29, 2010 with their single “Love MD”

Rating: 2.5
Right smack dab in the middle because their album hasn’t come out yet, and they can still do great things!

First Dru Hill, now SWV? Any fan of the 90′s would agree that the music during those ten years beats out the current gimicks tunes of today. Why not invite all those artists we love to make a comeback, starting with…

Back in the 90′s boy band and girl groups could actually sing, rappers actually had well-thought out lyrics, and soloist could “blow.” Now-a-days if you’re good looking enough, you can get a record deal. Some of the best music was made in the 90′s and if acts like Mary J. Blidge and P.Diddy can carry a career on into the um 10′s then why can’t these acts?

Kima, Keisha and Pam made up TOTAL, the girl group with vocals to match a hood swag. Signed to Bad Boy around 94′ Total came out swinging with their first single “Can’t You See,” and followed up with “Kissin’ You.” Total laced tracks for Biggie Smalls, LL Cool J,Foxy Brown, and Missy Elliot. Their debut album went certified platinum but they fell off the radar after their second album. In normal Bad Boy fashion Total disappeared at the peak of their careers. Bring em’ back Diddy!

Being booed on Amateur Night at the Apollo would probably shy most away from ever performing again, but not Lauryn Hill. Lauryn kept on, and eventually won five Grammy’s, one of them being : Album Of The Year. Hill was dissatisfied with the music industry, and sort of exiled herself. She sought out other ways to express herself, like clothing lines, plays and poems. We can’t be mad, the industry is shady, but we’re hopeful for a comeback!

Marc Nelson, Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman, Michael McCary, Wanya Morris made up Boys 2 Men. Based on sales, Boys 2 Men is the most successful R&B male group ever! Bigger than that stat, are their amazing voices. They started out on the legendary Motown Records with 5 members but before the money even got a chance to roll in, Marc Nelson left the group. Boys 2 Men may be a little old seasoned but who cares?!

R.L Huggar, Terry Brown, and Raphael Brown make-up Next. Next’s single “Too Close” was labeled BillBoards number 1 single of the year, a high honor for a debuting black male group. They continued on with the classics “Butta Love” and “Wifey” but fell out of the public eye shortly after. Next could be found serenading Jaheims “Anything.” I’d give about half of anything to have them back!

Sure Keith Sweat’s voice may have annoyed some, and maybe even sent cats into a stir but women couldn’t resist his sexy lyrics and charm. Even though Keith Sweat is on an old head tour, I’d like to hear a 2010 album from him.

Somewhere in the land of Boy Band where R&B groups are formed from muscular men, sultry voices, and masters of dance lies the secret to the success of these three groups: Dru Hill, Jagged Edge, and 112.

They shared many common traits, such as multi- platinum albums, support from super producers, (Diddy, Jermaine Dupri, Daryl Simmons) and too many members to remember their names. Nonetheless, these men were extremely talented. Their harmonies attracted panties like magnets, their love ballads were Valentine’s and Wedding Day staples, and their uptempo songs kept dance floors packed from coast to coast.

In our eyes all of these groups are special but for this particular argument, there can only be one winner. They shall be judged on four categories: Lead Singer, Panty Dropping Ability, Swag, and Dance Ballads

Category 1: Lead Singer

Brian Casey(J.E) Vs. Slim(112) Vs. Sisqo (Dru Hill):

This is hard because Brian’s voice is so strong, so manly and demanding, but Sisqo and Slim have a rare softness and higher tone to their voice. That breakdown at the end of Cupid (2:47) gave me slight goosebumps so he takes that one! As for their background vocals, Jagged Edge wins because every single one of those men can sing their a**es off!

Category 2: Panty Dropping Ability
Let’s break out the sex songs…
112

J.E
Well for the most part everyone thought Sisqo had a little sugar in his tank so thinking about him and sex would be pointless, that leaves J.E and 112. 112 inches by Jagged Edge by a nose in this category. “Hot and Wet” was so bold and no holds barred!
Category 3: Swag
After reviewing all the videos, hands down Jagged Edge was very “swagtastic.” Their dances were laid back and they didn’t all match like their clothing was made from one garment.

Category 4: Dance Ballads
Dru Hill had Jermaine Dupri behind their remix and because of that they slide by the other boys.

And the winners are: Jagged Edge! Who do you think deserves to win?

Then I saw that they linked up with Kedar Entertainment which is run by Kedar Massenburg, former head of Motown Records, and it all made sense.

After finding success by discovering talents like India.Arie, D’Angelo, and Erykah Badu, he’s spent the last 10 years or so repeatedly trying and failing to turn Chico DeBarge into a star, running Joe’s career into the ground, and signing formerly great artists and mediocre new artists to his label. So it kinda makes sense that Dru Hill would link up with the Napoleon Complex afflicted label exec.

Anyway…

Here’s Dru Hill’s new video for “Love MD.”

I have a feeling a lot of you are gonna say this song is great…

And I’m just gonna have to shake my head at you in advance.

K-Ci, I love your name and the music you used to make. I think you're going a little crazy now. I'm not saying he's on crack but I'm saying he's a little crackish.

According to Jazz, Nokio, Sisqo and Tao, 2009 will feature the return of Dru Hill led by the recently released single “If You Fall.”

After spending much of 2008 touring together, Dru Hill hit the studio to record their new album — this time without outside influences, making the effort a 100% Dru Hill project in vein of their multi-platinum selling efforts including “Enter The Dru.”

Last year the group went through an embarrassing reunion on 92.Q Jams when founding member Woody said he was leaving the group-again-ten minutes into the interview.

The group recovered a few months later and explained what happened:
