Estelle Collaborates With Janelle Monae On ‘All Of Me’ [TRACKLIST]

Estelle’s oft delayed third album is finally hitting stores on February 28th. All of Me features collaborations with Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Rick Ross, and Janelle Monae. The British import receives production from the likes of Jerry Wonda, No I.D., and Akon.

Look for the singer making her way across the country on tour with newcomers Luke James and Stacy Barthe. Also, Estelle will be performing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight at 11:35 pm. EST.

In spite of countless delays, Estelle’s third album has a solid release date. The British singer has announced her third effort, All of Me, will hit shelves on February 28, 2012. In conjunction with the release date announcement, Estelle delivered the album’s artwork to her fans.

All of Me features the singles “Break My Heart” featuring Rick Ross and “Thank You.” According to the singer, the visual for “Thank You” is in production and should be available for viewing in the coming weeks.

We aren’t completely sold on Estelle’s singing voice, but the beat is dope and Officer Ricky sounds good over it.

In 1996, the film Scream reinvigorated the horror film genre. Fifteen years later, the fourth installment in the horror film franchise will be released, Scream 4.

The film recently had it’s New York City premiere and 50 Cent hosted an afterparty for attendees at the Mr. H at the Mondrian Soho in Downtown NY. The event drew lots of celebs like Eve, Russell Simmons, Estelle, Floyd Mayweather, and many more!

Atlantic Records assembled four of their most artistically unpredictable signees–Lupe Fiasco, Estelle, B.O.B & Janelle Monae– to discuss what it means to change the music game. Billboard Magazine Editor-In-Chief Danyel Smith moderates the panel.

“I’m always down to pick the brains of my fellow artists,” says the usually outspoken Lupe Fiasco. “This is my third record deal. I’ve been through rapping fast, gangster rap…what the label wants me to do. I’ve been through all of that. At the end of the day I gained the most success from me doing me.”

I already know how the conversation between Estelle and an exec at her record label went.

Label Guy: Hey Estelle, y’know that “Freak” single didn’t work like we thought, and putting you in blackface for the video didn’t stir up enough controversy.

Estelle: (With strong British accent) Oi! I hear what you’re saying. Maybe we should try going in another direction.

Label Guy: Huh? I can’t understand that language you’re speaking. What is that? Spanish?

Estelle: (Speaking slowly) Let’s. Try. Going. In. Another. Direction. Something new perhaps?

Label Guy: Oh no, no, no… we can’t try something new! You had a big hit with that “American Boy” song a couple of years ago. Let’s just try and copy that song. We’ll mimic that same early 80s’ style that everyone loved so much from that song, and we’ll get another rapper to hop on it… Let’s see… How about B.O.B.? Well actually, that won’t work. He’s a much bigger star than you are today. He doesn’t need to do an Estelle record. You need him more than he needs you. What about…. oh this is crazy enough that it might work! What about Nas? It’ll be good for his image, with that divorce from that crazy chick that’s popular in your country but not here in the United States!

Estelle: Nas is cool. I guess we can get him on here…

Label Guy: This is gonna be huge! The general public isn’t smart enough to realize that we’re basically trying to give them the same song twice! We’ll change up the lyrics so they can’t say it’s a total rip off, but the sound will be so familiar to them, it’ll be like Pavlov’s dog! They’ll hear it and immediately associate it with the one song of yours that they did like! That should mean they’ll like it too, right?

Estelle: Ummm…

Label Guy: Of course they will!!! Let’s book some studio time for you right away!

It appears that the lovely Brit is out to shock her “American Boys” this time around, but maybe she didn’t get the memo that rocking Blackface is frowned upon State side?

In the clip she gives explanations for some of her other makeup in the video but doesn’t really get into why she chose this particular look:

Before I posted this I queried a few folks and asked them if I was overreacting and they all admitted it made them feel some kind of way.

Toni Braxton Has Tumor Removed

Toni Braxton‘s absence at the “Dancing With The Stars” finale wasn’t because she was being a spoiled sport. According to Us Weekly, Toni was having a tumor removed from her breast.

“I was worried about what they would find,” she tells Us. “But it was benign.”

Doctors discovered the lump during a routine checkup in August but weren’t alarmed. In fact, they told the mother of two — sons are Denim, 7, and Diezel, 5 (by musician-husband Keri Lewis) — she could continue filming “Dancing With The Stars”.

“Getting the boot on the show was actually a blessing in disguise for me,” Braxton tells Us. “We have family history. My grandmother on my dad’s side died of breast cancer, and I have aunts on both sides that have breast cancer.”

In related news, after a three year recording hiatus, Toni recently traded in her nightly Las Vegas show for a recording contract with Atlantic Records. Under the new record deal the singer joins T.I., Jaheim, Musiq and Estelle who are all signed to the label.

To date, Toni Braxton has release five studio albums since her self titled debut in 1993, has sold well over 40 million copies and has released three #1 R&B singles.

John Legend Continues To “Evolve”

It seems like just yesterday we were geeked about the new video for “Ordinary People” directed by Kanye West. Or not long ago that “Save Room” from his sophomore CD was the new hotness. And chances are, when we hear those tracks in years to come they will evoke that same kind of timeless appreciation. As is the case with this latest collection of songs on Evolver, the third installment from singer/songwriter John Legend.

Attempting to live up to it’s lofty title, the lead single “Greenlight” (see video below) featuring OutKast rapper, Andre 3000 is an escape from Legend’s comfort zone of adult contemporary music. Though the pairing is a bit of a mismatch the song is probably one of his most radio friendly tunes in a while. Falling into that very same category are “Quickly” featuring Brandy,”Cross The Line” and “No Other Love” featuring Estelle, each standing as a proverbial loosening of the tie for Legend with their heavily drummed and synthesized arrangements. Re: evolution.

Although Legend’s piano isn’t as ever present as in previous projects, he is at his best when he dwells in the realm in which this CD was suppose to be a departure from. Songs like “If You’re Out There” and “Everybody Knows” represent Legend in his classic form and are the gems of the entire project.

What remains consistent with Legend as he experiences this evolution is his voice. Throughout Evolver, his voice is strong and full, never wavering or attempting notes it cannot own, even in falsetto (“I Love, You Love”).

All in all, we suggest you don’t take our word for it. We’re biased. We’ve always had a preference for music that we could run on repeat from early afternoon until the after party.

Our personal favorite is “It’s Over” featuring Kanye West and that damn vocoder. — KEVIN R. SCOTT

To be honest, when I first heard Fanta “Estelle” Swaray on John Legend’s “Hey Girl” I thought she was Natalie Stewart from Floetry. Boy, was I wrong.

By signing the U.K. singer/MC to his Homeschool label, John Legend has proved he’s good for more than vamping Stevie Wonder and making great songs about infidelity. On Shine Estelle consistently takes listeners to a happy place like those dizzy people in energy drink commercials that kick off their shoes and dive into refreshing, vitamin-rich liquids. Will.i.am is the grand marshall of her merriment on “Wait A Minute” and the flirtatious “American Boy.” Estelle is the ultimate wingman on “Come Over” and “Back In Love” where she’ll help you disarm that incense-burning booty call from the poetry reading with ease. With liberal sprinkling of familiar breaks like Grover Washington’s “Hydra” and Screaming Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You” the more hardcore hip-hop heads will have enough motivation to put down their backpacks long enough to actually dance.
