I’ve always wondered why Kanye never officially teamed up with his Blackstar homies Mos Def and Talib Kweli. They’ve always seemed like a natural fit for each other after seeing how Kweli opened the door for one of the most successful acts in rap today by letting Kanye open up for him on his promotional tour before anybody had any kind of faith in Ye’ the rapper, most only knew him as a uber-talented producer. The artists would make frequent appearances on each other’s album and performances but nothing was ever official.

Talib Kweli has been pretty good at holding it down on his own as an artist and co-owner of his Blacksmith music label while Mos almost abandoned music altogether to become a very credible actor.

All the while, Mos Def the musician, while putting out decent music, was flailing like a man overboard without a life jacket to get his label’s attention Kanye’s G.O.O.D. music artists like Common and John Legend has earned an esteemed place in the music landscape.

Joining the aforementioned, as well as Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Consequence, GLC, Mr Hudson, and the recently added Pusha T of Clipse, Mos Def finally gets to be in the music family that he needs to be in.

According to a new XXL interview with Kanye West:

“Just as Kanye returned to his roots to scoop up Common, he recently recruited his buddy Brooklyn rapper/singer/actor Mos Def into the GOOD Music fold. Long regarded as a formidable talent by underground devotees and mainstream fans alike, Mos appeared on “Two Words” (from Kanye’s 2005 The College Dropout) and “Drunk and Hot Girls” (from KW’s 2007 Graduation). Since his 1999 solo debut, Black on Both Sides, Mos has increasingly been pushed — whether by generational choices or self-exile — to the fringes of indie, alternative hip hop. Maybe it will take Kanye to reign him in.”

Kanye West announced plans to release a new song every Friday until Christmas.

Dubbed “G.O.O.D. Fridays” by West, Kanye promised to release a new song by a member of the G.O.O.D. Music family every week.

West made the announcement over the course of four posts on his Twitter account.

“Swizz looked at me the other night and said man are you getting sleep and I told him I can’t sleep… My people need this new music.

“I know yall need the music so I’m dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas. It may be my song it may be a new Jay song etc…

“I’m calling it good Fridays. Yall know every Friday yall gone have a new joint from our family. We look at the game completely different now.

“It’s about the fans. No more holding back. That’s why I dropped see me now… It wasn’t about me it was about the Summer the BBQs etc…”

Common spits a freestyle at the Vancouver chapter of Rock The Bells:

“I was at Rock The Bells yesterday, and I put together this little video with some of the common footage I took. G.O.O.D. Music signee Kid Cudi recently posted to his blog the news of his casting to up-and-coming writer Ian Edelman’s show How To Make It In America – currently in pre-production.

The pilot also starring Luis Guzman, Shannyn Sossamon and Bryan Greenberg is looking to come to HBO soon.

Kanye West apparently isn’t done singing. After an impromptu meeting at a recording studio in Paris last month, it looks like ‘Ye will be working with British rockers Keane. The group’s drummer, Richard Hughes, tells the BBC, “I think Tim [Rice-Oxley, the group’s keyboardist] left another song with him that he wrote a little while back… It’s got a huge gap in it which is for a guest vocalist, and we were hoping Kanye might take a run at that as well. I don’t know, maybe we’ll do a little EP, [and] call it Kanye or something. We’d been thinking about asking him to have a crack at a remix and actually he ended up rapping over a little bit of ‘You Haven’t Told Me Anything.’”

After a rocky, three-year stint with Sony/RED, Queens rapper Consequence has recently signed with Motown Records.

“In conjunction with of course G.O.O.D. Music and my new upstart company Band Camp Records which is headed by myself and Rik Cordero we’re about to ‘Get Shit Shaking Fam!!!’” Consequence stated via his blog at ItsTheCons.com. “It has been almost two years since Day Job dropped. I remember the struggles and adversity I was faced with when attempting to get a release date from Sony. I just have to say two things. Thank Allah and it was worth it!!!”

According to TMZ, ‘Ye was exiting the Tup Tup nightclub in Newcastle and got physical after a photog pushed his limit. The Louis Vuitton Don has already been released and will not face additional charges. The “victim” also has a history of violence at celebs, so with dude getting close to Mr. Go Hard, Yeezy did what most folks in that situation would do.
