When Rose snagged Wiz, she was allowed to speak and hasn’t stopped. Their working on her debut single, he’s working with Snoop, and she’s a judge on a DJing competition reality show. Every time they pop up somewhere we just wish they’d return to whichever medical marijuana plant they floated out of.

The “Ultimate Jump Off Come-Up” Award

This honor goes to the woman who started out as a basic side chick, but has made the come up to main chick.

Please someone explain to me how you get fame by going on a show to compete for the love of Flavor Flav and wind up married to Shaq with no prenuputial agreement. Hoopz has provided a blueprint for these thirsty potential jumpoffs. Hide your wife and your wallet.

The “Cry Me A River” Award

Here, we honor the couple with the most dramatic break up that played out in front of the world.

When these two were good, we liked them as a couple. All of that went out the window when she alleged he physically abused her leading to a miscarriage. Budden slandered her on social networking sites and she did the same in an incendiary interview with Bossip. So glad the drama is done with.

The “You Should Get Tested Before Things Go Any Further” Award

The recipient of this honor has been linked to more than a few people. The next conquest of these nominees might want them to get tested before engaging in any type of sex.

Rihanna was seen traveling around the world with a variety of different men. More often than not, a drink was within the vicinity also. Her wild antics has caused some judgmental viewers to label her a “drunk h*e.” I wonder if she’ll drink to that.

The people up for this award all did some ratchet mess which caused them to lose some fans.

Hip-Hop America was horrified when they heard she lost her unborn child at the hands of Joe Budden. When he denied the situation, the ultrasound photo of the unborn baby hit the ‘net. Instead of telling the truth, Baxter claimed Bossip stole the picture and posted without her knowledge. That story worked for about two seconds. Bossip came out and stated they got the picture from Baxter’s own camp. That’s ratchet as hell!

The “They Go Together For Real?” Award

This awards is given to the couple that came out of left field.

Ross dating Elise Neal is the winner because they actually dated and after they broke up, she was still concerned about him. Remember when he had his seizures? Neal was the first to blast his handlers for his hectic schedule which caused the health scare. The Ross-Neal connection gives hope to all fat black guys that they too can find a woman as bad as Elise Neal. So my delusions of grandeur concerning me and Janet Jackson becoming a real couple isn’t so far fetched? Good. I never thought so anyway.

In fact, these three have spent so much time together over the last 12 months, we wouldn’t be surprised if Kanye slept in between Bey and Jay in their bed like children often do.

WAYNE ON JAY-Z AND “THE OLD GUYS”

“There’s no competition [with any artists]. Music isn’t about competition no more. All the gangster rappers are happy, all the skateboard rappers are happy, all the white rappers are happy… Everybody just happy to do music these days. There are no problems. That shit died a long time ago with them old-ass rappers. We are just making music, making money and having fun feeding our families. Competition is for the old guys.”

VIBE: You say competition is for the “old guys,” but it sounds like you’re going at Jay-Z with that line, “I got your baby money/Kidnap your bitch, get that how-much-you-love-your-lady money.” Are we looking at it the wrong way?

LIL WAYNE: I know for a fact, music is about perception. You can’t do anything but perceive what you hear. If I know that for a fact, I can never be upset about someone’s reaction to it. I’m not gonna say I don’t know what will happen before I say it [on record]. I do know what will happen. I am aware of it. It is what it is.

VIBE: So you knew the repercussions of going after Jay before anything even happened?

LIL WAYNE: Well, I’m a man. I believe as a man you should know that. Every man should know the repercussions and consequences behind whatever they do before they do it. And of course, I know there won’t be any repercussions behind what I did.

WAYNE ON LOOKING AT DRAKE AS COMPETITION:

VIBE: You mentioned how humbled you were at the success of “She Will.” Drake, who wrote and performs the song’s chorus, has now become a platinum star in his own right. Do you look at the guy and say, “Wow, I helped create a monster, I have to stay on my toes”?

LIL WAYNE: I don’t look at it like that. Drake is my artist. If he wasn’t my artist, then yeah maybe. But that’s my artist. He’s not [just] a friend. We’re more than friends. It’s business. It would be impossible for it to be a competition. I mean, I’m the guy’s boss.

WAYNE ON HIP-HOP INFLUENCING THE LONDON RIOTS:

VIBE: Given that Cash Money artist Jay Sean is a native of the U.K., you probably have some strong feelings about the London riots and how some talking heads blamed it on hip-hop culture.

LIL WAYNE: All you could do is pray for the people that were dealing with the situation and hope for the best. As far as them blaming hip-hop, you can blame Jesus for things, so you can’t really fault anybody for blaming someone or something. All you can do is hope for the best.

Roc Nation Recording artist, J. Cole sat down with Frequency TV to speak about his latest single “Work Out” off of his debut album “Cole World: The Sideline Story,” which will be in stores September 27.

J. Cole also spoke about the music industry at large:

“People are hurting in the world and we still rapping about super flashy things, which I am not knocking because I am not innocent in it at all… It’s about balance; I don’t think hip-hop for a while has been balanced. I don’t want to be the voice of the generation at all, but I definitely want to spark some type of change.”

THROWBACK: The Best Of The Juice Crew

With the single from One Day It’ll All Make Sense, Common elevated hip-hop to a metaphorical woman whose name stood for “Hip-Hop in its Essence and Real” (even though Hearing Every Rhyme is a popular interpretation as well). Producer No ID (who recently cranked out “D.O.A” for Jay-Z) built the beat around a  jazzy loop of George Benson’s “The Changing World” and VH1 ranked it # 69 in the 100 greatest rap songs of all time.

Common, “I Used To Love H.E.R.”

George Benson, “The Changing World”

Over the years many MCs have borrowed from the template having hip-hop embody this metaphorical woman in various ways.  Some of the relationships have fared better than others, with some MCs breaking up with her, one actually raping the music and others even killing her off. But after all of the abuse S.H.E is still standing.

The Pharcyde “For Better Of For Worse”
This predates Common’s ode by three years but it’s only Trey’s first verse that outlines his intentions to marry  “Rhymealinda” who  he dreams of having kids with named Mike (Mic) and feeding them beats.

Quotable: “To Rhymealinda I remember umm, when we first met
In eighty-two back in school used to play up all the fools
Sometimes you’d be my number fives sometimes you’d be my twenty-two

The Roots feat. Common – Act too (Love of my life)

The Roots ?uestlove insisted this was not the “daughter” to Common’s original but with Lonnie Lynne on the track it was hard not to see it that way.

We ripped shit, and kept it hardcore for you
I remember late nights, steady rockin the mic

Masta Ace ft. Jean Grae – Hold you

One of the more inventive odes, Masta Ace vows love to his microphone. After his confessions we get to hear from the microphone voiced by Jean Grae who weaves the language of the Sennheiser into her very verse.

Quotable: “and there’s still cats who try to touch me when they spot me alone
try to tap me just to see if I’m turned on
but it’s the way you speak to me
its like we on the same frequency and when you hold me, you make peak come on

Jean says: “was nervous as hell. Most people still don’t get that I’m a mic. Subtlety overload on my part.”

Slaughterhouse, “Cut You Loose”
Royce, Joe Budden, Joel Ortiz and Crooked I have had enough of her cheating heart and kick H.E.R. to the curb.

Tanya Morgan, “She’s Gone”

Donwill, Von Pea and Ilyas (with a little help from Phonte) pour their hearts out–and then a little liquor–offering a heartfelt eulogy for their lady love.

Quotable: “I thought she was too innocent for relations/ until she introduced me to electric relaxation…”

Donwill Says:“… the is actually about the death of brick an mortar record stores. one day while out in Cincinnati I took Von on a driving tour of the city. And I drove past a record store I grew up shopping at was closed. The store was called Kipps Record Arcade and it was a BIG part of my life. Goin up there every tues/thurs to get releases. Goin in to pick up the weekly/monthly release schedule. And on an even deeper level the comradery of me and my friends planning all week and looking forward to going to the store and debating who was gonna buy what so that we could make dubs… upon thinking deeper about it it was kinda like finding out a girl you were in love with had died or moved on without a trace. “

Pharoahe Monch, “Rape”

In easily the most extreme interpretation Pharoahe Monch literally rapes hip-hop music in his macabre track from his solo debut, Internal Affairs.

Never waste time, I give the verse rabies
Cum on the chorus, tell the hook to swallow my babies

J-Live, F/ Asheru & Probe DMS “Kick It To The Beat”

On his debut The Best Part, J-Live shares how he’d “push-up” on the beat if she was a girl in the street..
Quotable:”I wanna lay you down with nothing but your two-inch reels on/then make a strong song that’ll last real long…”

Erykah Badu ft. Common – Love Of My Life (An Ode to Hip-Hop)

Com Sense got his then baby boo to remake his classic for the Brown Sugar soundtrack. This marks the first time hip-hop was referenced as a dude.
Quotable: How could it be that it was/All just so simple then/A teenage love but you say
He’s just a friend…

Nottz, “I Still Love You.”

Rapper/producer Nottz draws inspiration from J-Dilla’s “Love U” from Donuts, which sampled Jerry Butler’s “Because I Love You.” Nottz gives Hip-Hop the name of Roxanne Shante after the iconic female MC.

Quotable: “I met this girl when I was about 10/ I used to love H.E.R but we still friends/”

With not even one celebrity endorsement or official record deal, the fan base for this groups official project has been tremendous! All songs on the album are written and produced by both, for the exception of Losing My Religion and Let’s Make a Baby, which were produced by Derek “D.O.A.” Allen (who also produced hit records for such artists as Tyrese, Dave Hollister, Slim [of 112] and Bobby Brown).

Since the age of 14 Ra Capone and Shay Swinga, native New Yorkers, would experiment with beat-making and mixing in the basement of Swinga’s house, where they honed their production skills. “It’s an art form that just pulls you in and makes you want more” Swinga says, “What level can an artist reach with their project? I’d think to myself… That’s what makes it so unique.  There’s no right or wrong answer.  It’s just about what you feel and when you love what you do, it shows in everything you do.” I say Indeed to that!

While they appreciate how the culture has evolved, they believe hip-hop lacks the essence that it was built on. “Now it’s turned into a look how much money I have game” says Capone; “No one really talks about anything of importance anymore”.

Cash Money Records, the original home of Lil Wayne and the progenitor of the Young Money  crew, got their landmark deal in 1998 in large part because of the efforts of a young woman named Wendy Day, who ran an organization called the Rap Coalition, dedicated to helping rappers get better contracts.

But in an ironic turn of events, when it came time for Cash Money to pay Wendy Day the money they owed her, they refused. And that, Charnas says in the video, is when things got complicated…

Four years ago Jay-Z issued a lyrical taunt to his fellow rappers: “What you call money, I pay more in taxes.” Turns out his line was more than just a boast.

Jay-Z pulled in $63 million over the past 12 months, earning him his second straight hip-hop cash crown. His income level places him in the 35% tax bracket, which means he’ll pay Uncle Sam about $22 million this year–a sum greater than the total earnings of any other rap star besides second-ranked Diddy.

The top 20 earners on this year’s Cash Kings list racked up about $300 million in earnings, an average of $15 million per artist. Remarkably, the total is roughly the same as last year, despite a troubled economy and a music industry thrown into flux by new technology.
