Since going into the headphone business in 2007 Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s “Beats By Dre” headphones have become a must-have accessory. They are nearly as important for making a fashion statement as for listening to music. Answering the demand of fans (and bootleggers) for more varieties, the newest beats will be available in more colors, a BeatBox speaker system and even wireless headphones.

Dr. Dre has sold 51 percent of Beats Electronics to Taiwan based company HTC in a $309 million deal. Dre Dre and Jimmy Iovine founded the company in 2006 which produced the popular Beats headphones with celebrity-endorsed lines by Lady Gaga, Diddy, and Justin Bieber. “The HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre partnership is an opportunity for two world-class companies to redefine the smartphone industry and define the future,” said Iovine.

Dr. Dre was spotted out in Los Angeles recently and was asked about 50 Cent, who recently tweeted that he felt that Dre & Interscope Records head Jimmy Iovine didn’t like him because he was launching a line of headphones that would compete with their popular “Beats” series.

Dre had quite the interesting response to a TMZ reporter’s question about the supposed beef claiming he had no knowledge of it. The reporter filled Dre in saying that it was because of 50′s competing product. Dre said “I never heard of his headphones.”

50 Cent has buried the hatchet with Interscope head, Jimmy Iovine. 50 tweeted yesterday that he felt that Iovine and Dr. Dre were upset at him now that 50 has launched his own line of headphones that will compete with Dre & Iovine’s “Beats” series of heapdhones.

“Jimmys not mad at me any more we kicked it,” 50 tweeted last night. “I just have to talk to DRE now.” 50 also posted a photo of himself with Iovine.

Maybe now 50 can get himself one of those fancy corporate titles that Iovine’s been brokering for artists like will.i.am (“Director of Creative Innovation” at Intel) and Lady Gaga (“Creative Director” at Polaroid).

In a recent series of tweets, 50 Cent hinted that he had written a verse dissing Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, head of Interscope Records. Apparently Dre & Iovine aren’t happy with 50 for his new line of headphones that are competing with their “Beats” series of headphones.

“Jimmy Iovine and Dre mad at me cause I’m doing Sleek By 50,” 50 tweeted. “I guess I’m not going to be on Detox Lol. I’m a little hurt Jimmy and Dre feel like that but f*ck it. I’m focused I got a surprise for everybody this go round.”

“Would you faint if I told you I just wrote a verse about Jimmy and Dre,” 50 continued. “Oh my god this is hard. This sh*t gonna kill. Em gonna have a heart attack when he hear this sh*t damn lol.”

All of this over some headphones??????

The Game Apologizes To 50 Cent

The MC says he wants to “apologize to 50 as a man.” He also wants to apologize to the fans, Dr. Dre, Eminem and the head of Interscope, Jimmy Iovine.

“Jimmy always says, ‘Man, I told you guys not to break up the Beatles,’ ” Game said. “He says he told John Lennon the same thing a long time ago. But I was young, man. I was dumb. I did a lot of dumb things. I felt me and 50 clashed. I’m not gonna dis 50. I’m not gonna go back on the plane. He had his side, I had my side. I did what I felt was necessary for me and my career to have longevity and survive in hip-hop and music to be around when I’m Quincy Jones’ age — not just be Quincy Jones’ age, but be a Quincy Jones. Now, four albums in, I can honestly say from Banks to Buck to Dre to Yayo to whoever, if it would have kept going, endless paper. Millions of albums sold — because we were great together. Me and 50’s chemistry was like how Method Man was to Redman when they get in. You know when Method Man gets with Redman, it’s going down.”

True, the Unit, when they were a five-man squad (that’s with Game and Buck), were absolutely unstoppable. We’re still rocking that All Eyez on Us G-Unit Radio Part 5 mixtape.

“It is what KRS-One was with Scott La Rock,” Game added, describing his time with 50. “When you take Ralph Tresvant from New Edition and Bobby Brown goes this way, you might get a Bell Biv DeVoe, but you won’t get no ‘Candy Girl.’ You won’t get no ‘Mr. Telephone Man.’ You ain’t gonna get no ‘Hate It or Love It,’ you won’t get ‘How We Do.’ As a family, we had it. If we never [broke] up, I think Detox would have been out and we all would have been selling millions from Banks to Buck, Tony Yayo. I’m gonna apologize for my role.”

BREAKING: Snoop Dogg Leaves Interscope!

After many years and many hits, Snoop Dogg and long time recording company Interscope/Geffen Records have parted ways, according to Chronic Vacation.

As of press time, no details were available on the split

Founded by Jimmy Iovine in 1990, Snoop Dogg immediately became one of the major players at the label through his affiliation with Death Row Records. The first major release from the pairing was The Chronic from Dr. Dre, whose lead single, the Snoop Dogg assisted “Ain’t Nothin But A G Thang” helped propel the album to multi-platinum status.

Snoop Dogg’s own debut album, 1993′s Doggystyle followed in The Chronic’s footsteps and was certified quadruple-platinum by the RIAA.

In 1998, Snoop Dogg parted ways with Death Row/Interscope and Snoop spent the ensuing years with Master P’s No Limit Records and later hit the independent circuit, releasing mix tapes and albums with long time collaborators, Tha Dogg Pound.

The new millennium saw the Dogg return to Interscope under Geffen Records where he released three albums.

There is no word on what Snoop’s next move will be, but reliable sources say the split will lead to bigger and better things for the Dogg Father.

The Good Doctor Expands His Headphone Collection

With this year’s Christmas season landing dead-smack in the middle of one of the worst recessions in decades, there are a few Hip Hop heads who may not be able to swing the $349.95 price tag on the original Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. As such, Dre has partnered with Monster and Interscope/Geffen A&M Chairman Jimmy Iovine for a specially priced edition of his signature headphones.

While talking to Billboard about all business ventures under the Aftermath/Interscope umbrella, Iovine gushed, “Dr. Dre’s headphones are doing really, really, really well. It’s a fabulous product. We’re building a lot there.”

The new Beats by Dr. Dre Tour in-ear headphones will be available in limited quantities at a pre-launch retail price of $149.95 by mid-December 2008 at the Apple Store, Amazon.com and beatsbydre.com.

For those in a tax bracket that allows for splurging, the original Beats by Dr. Dre headphones have been released in limited edition Cleveland Cavaliers and Ron Herman colorways, for a retail price of $699. All three versions are equipped with noise-canceling technology and the line’s signature bass. As Eminem notes on the recently leaked track “Number One,” “Beats quake like Waco/just keep the bass low/speakers away from your face though.”

“Our Ron Herman boutiques are the quintessential environment where one can experience the unification of fashion, music and culture,” noted Ron Herman. “Beats By Dr. Dre are more than just headphones, they are a fashion accessory.”

Jimmy Iovine Blames Eminem For “Detox” Delays

You still waiting on that email blast that says Detox is in stores? Well, someone’s blaming Marshall Mathers for the most recent delay.

“I’ll tell you about Eminem. We only tried to put him out this year to replace Dr. Dre, but we got into a quagmire. Eminem was always coming next year. But what happened was, I lost Dr. Dre to Eminem. Dre had to stop making his album to finish Eminem’s album. Eminem hit a streak, and when a guy like Eminem gets on fire, you stop everything. That’s how we lost Dre.

So what’s the status of Dre’s record?

Dre’s going back in in January. He’ll be finished with Eminem by then, and he’ll finish his album.“

No word as to yet when either album will be available to the public.
