Los Angeles, California — Michael Jackson’s father suspects his son was murdered and that Dr. Conrad Murray is “just a fall guy” in a conspiracy.

Joe Jackson appeared on CNN’s “Larry King Live” on Monday night, just hours after sitting in a courtroom to hear Murray plead not guilty to a single charge of involuntary manslaughter in his son’s death last summer.

A Los Angeles judge set bail at $75,000, despite arguments from the prosecutor that Murray is a flight risk and needs a higher bail. Murray posted the bond and was released several hours later.

Michael Jackson’s family, including his parents, four of his brothers and one sister, filled the first two rows of the small courtroom.

If you’ve been following the Michael Jackson drama since his recent death, you know that his will left guardianship of his three children to his mother Katherine Jackson also left his father Joe Jackson out of the will.

But because the singer’s estate is potentially worth billions, it’s easy to see how or why Papa Joe would want to play Grandpa to MJ’s kids when that is exactly what the performer said he didn’t want to happen.

Well, we can all rest easy because the 79-year-old family patriarch has come out and said that won’t get involved with raising Michael’s kids.

For the record, Joe Jackson lives in Las Vegas and wrote in a statement, filed in a Los Angeles court on Monday, that he only occasionally visits the family home in Encino in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.

“I have had a close family relationship with these grandchildren since their birth,” Jackson wrote in the declaration dated July 13. “I do visit the family residence from time to time and will continue to do so, however I will not be involved in raising the children.”

His two-page declaration expresses support for his wife, Katherine, who on Monday was granted permanent custody of Michael Jackson’s three children.

Joe Jackson wrote that his wife is “a wonderful caretaker and guardian.”

A judge on Monday awarded Katherine a monthly stipend to help upkeep the family’s home, where her three grandchildren are staying.

Katherine Jackson will remain the guardian of her son Michael’s three children after reaching an agreement with the biological mother of Jackson’s two eldest kids, Debbie Rowe, the Los Angeles Times reports. Under the terms of the deal, Katherine Jackson will retain custody while Rowe has been granted visitation and other legal parental rights. Both sides said that Rowe did not receive any money from this new pact. Katherine Jackson was named the children’s guardian in Jackson’s 2002 will.

A child psychologist will be hired to determine when and where Rowe’s visits should be conducted, the L.A. Times writes. The fees of the child psychologist will be split between Jackson and Rowe, who has not seen Prince Michael and Paris Jackson in several years since relinquishing her parental rights in 2001. According to sources close to the negotiation, Rowe never sought custody of the children after Michael’s death, and neither Rowe nor Katherine Jackson made requests that were rejected. The agreement will go before a judge next Monday, August 3rd.

Under the terms of Michael Jackson’s 2002 will, had Katherine Jackson been unable to serve as guardian of the children — Katherine turned 79 on May 4th — Michael named longtime friend Diana Ross as an alternate guardian. Jackson’s 2002 will also made it a point of omitting Rowe, who Jackson divorced in 2000, and preventing her getting any money from the Michael Jackson Family Trust, which both Jackson’s children and Katherine Jackson have a 40 percent stake in. The remaining 20 percent will benefit charities.

Yesterday, Michael’s father Joe Jackson seemed to acknowledge in an interview with NewsOne that 25-year-old Norwegian musician Omer Bhatti is Michael’s son, even though Bhatti himself denied the allegations earlier this week. Bhatti was seen at Jackson’s memorial sitting front row with the family. “I knew that he had another son,” Joe said. “Yes I did. He looks like a Jackson, he acts like a Jackson, he can dance like a Jackson.” Bhatti, along with his parents and sister, lived for eight years at the Neverland Ranch, with Bhatti’s mother Pia serving as a nanny to Michael’s oldest son Prince Michael.

Mrs. Jackson continues to serve as her son’s most trusted and loyal advocate even in death. In an effort to gain more facts concerning a suspicious circle of relationships, unnotarized will and an undisclosed trust, both drafted in 2002, which grant the executors and trustees thereunder very broad powers, Mrs Jackson has sought formal discovery of the temporary special administrators of her son’s estate. The Court has made clear that it will consider Mrs. Jackson’s demand for expedited discovery, and all other serious issues relating to the estate, on August 3rd. We are confident that at that time the court will allow Mrs Jackson full discovery.

To be clear, neither Mrs. Jackson nor her representatives seek to re-write her son’s will. Her concerns are and remain the welfare of her son’s surviving children, the preservation of his legacy and the protection of his estate. Unfortunately, and contrary to their public statements, lawyers for John Branca and John McClain have either denied Mrs. Jackson access to critical information or insisted on such onerous and unreasonable restrictions on her access to and use of such information as to be tantamount to an outright refusal of certain agreements, such as the AEG agreement . The contract in question is of great potential significance to the estate, and the matters currently before the Probate Court, and yet the confidentiality terms presented to Mrs. Jackson by the temporary special administrators and AEG would have required her to accept greater confidentiality obligations than the temporary special administrators and greater than what her son agreed. This was unacceptable. Such unreasonable demands, coupled with the special administrators’ apparent concern for protecting AEG at the expense of Mrs. Jackson raise serious concerns. Mrs. Jackson is looking for transparency in terms of the administration of her son’s estate. Because this transparency has not been forthcoming, she was forced to resort to making formal discovery requests. Such measures will not be necessary if Mrs. Jackson is appointed a co-executor of the estate.‬ She was the only person who served as a trustee and/or co-manager of Michael’s business interests at the time of his death and over the past four years. The will expressly allows for an appointment of the vacated third member. No one should deny Mrs Jackson the right to help preserve and administer Michael’s legacy especially those whom had almost no contact with Michael for numerous years prior to his death.

Dr. Tohme Tohme, a former financial advisor to Michael Jackson, said Friday that he was the person who recently turned over to executors $5.5 million, and described the money as “a secret between Michael and me.”

The Associated Press had asked Tohme about documents in which administrators of the estate said they had recovered $5.5 million and substantial amounts of personal property from an unnamed former financial adviser.

“It was not recovered,” he told the AP. “I had the money and I gave it to them. It was a secret between Michael and me.”

He said the money, which came from recording residuals, was earmarked by Jackson for the purchase of what was to be his “dream home” in Las Vegas. He said he was in negotiations for the home when Jackson died.

“He said, ‘Don’t tell anyone about this money,’” Tohme recalled. “But when he passed away I told them I had this money, and I gave it to them.”

He said he also turned over a large number of items from Jackson’s Neverland estate that was once scheduled to be auctioned. When Jackson decided to call off the auction, Tohme said he had everything put into storage. He said he turned over that personal property to the executors as well.

Tohme is the financier who advised Jackson during the last year and half of his life and was instrumental in saving Neverland from foreclosure. He also was a key figure in negotiating the contracts for Jackson to do a series of comeback concerts in London.

The estate’s receipt of the money was revealed in court documents released Friday. Attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain are serving as temporary administrators as spelled out in the King of Pop’s will. The men are finishing several deals that they expect will generate “tens of millions of dollars of revenues.” They expect to submit those deals for court approval within the next week, the filings state.

The revelations were included in two motions requesting allowances for Jackson’s three children and his mother, Katherine. The petitions state that Jackson was the primary source of income for his children and his mother, who receives some money from Social Security.

Katherine Jackson currently has custody of the three children, 12-year-old Michael Joseph Jr., known as Prince Michael; 11-year-old Paris Michael Katherine Jackson; and 7-year-old Prince Michael II, known as Blanket. The children and Jackson’s mother are the only members of Jackson’s family eligible to receive support from the estate, according to the court filings. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff refused to grant the allowances on Thursday, opting instead to consider them at a hearing on Aug. 3. The judge did allow the administrators to enter into deals that will bring reprints of Michael Jackson’s 1988 autobiography, “Moonwalk” back to booksellers.

Branca and McClain “believe that the projected cash flow and the assets of the estate are more than sufficient to cover the payment of this amount as a family allowance for the benefit of the minor children.”

Jackson paid for the expenses at the Jackson family home in the San Fernando Valley, the court filings state. The administrators plan to keep that arrangement, even though some of the expenses may go to other Jackson family members who also live at the home.

Jackson’s children will receive Social Security benefits, which have been applied for but payments have not yet started. Their monthly stipends from the estate may be reduced, depending on much money they receive from Social Security, the filings state.

Michael Jackson had a close relationship with his own three children, but he also mentored many other youngsters over the years – including Omer Bhatti, a young musical talent who was particularly close to the singer.

Bhatti, now 25, sat front and center at the King of Pop’s memorial earlier this month, and is currently staying at the Jackson family home in Encino, Calif.

A Norwegian performer, Bhatti was a fixture at Jackson’s Neverland ranch after the two met in Europe in the mid-1990s, when Bhatti was around 11, according to several sources.

‘Little Monkey’

“Everyone knew him as ‘Little Michael,’ and Michael referred to him as ‘Little Monkey,’” remembers Ricky Harlow, a rocker in the band Harlow, who was signed to Jackson’s MJJ Records in 1996 – and enjoyed an open invitation to Neverland.

Harlow, then about 15, spent many weeks at Jackson’s ranch and remembers Bhatti and Jackson as being very close, but says media reports hinting that Bhatti is the pop star’s son make little sense.

“They had a father-and-son type of connection,” Harlow says, “but I never thought he was his biological father. They met when Little Michael did a contest impersonating Michael Jackson in Europe in the mid-1990s, and Michael saw it and was blown away and got in contact with the family.”

Life at Neverland

The Jackson family recognizes the close bond and has taken in Bhatti, a source tells PEOPLE. “They definitely embrace him,” says the source. “He lived with Michael like a son. After Michael died, he came to the Jackson family home in Encino. He came along with Michael’s kids.”

Soon after meeting Jackson, Bhatti and his mother Pia and father Riz were invited to live at Neverland, with all its perks.

“Michael cherished him,” says Harlow. “He was always like, ‘Please be careful with Little Monkey. When you ride on the four wheelers, PLEASE be careful because Little Michael lives with me.’ I’m a crazy driver. I actually wrecked a bunch of the four wheelers with Little Michael with me. He was having so much fun.”

Michael’s Idol

As for Bhatti, he more than lived up to his nickname – dressing and moving just like Michael.

“I could tell little Michael idolized him,” says Harlow. “[Omer] would say things like, ‘I’m going to be a millionaire by the time I’m 20.’ He was super ambitious; I remember he was very talented, and Michael would always say that.”

Though many viewed Jackson’s close relationship with children as inappropriate – he was tried on molestation charges, and acquitted, in 2005 – Harlow says Neverland holds only good memories for him.

“I would hang out at his place all the time, and we’d be dancing in front of the mirror together,” Harlow, now 26, remembers. “One day and he turned to me and said, ‘You’ve got a lot of nerve.’ To him that meant I’m a bold person. I’m going to keep that in my heart.”

Sporting a black fedora and a gold medallion of Africa, Joe Jackson was on CNN’s “Larry King Live” Monday night continuing allegations that his son Michael Jackson was murdered by his personal physician Conrad Murray, who was with Michael when he died.

“The doctor gave him something to make him rest, and then he don’t wake up no more. Something is wrong there,” Jackson said. He never referred to Murray by name.

“This doctor, he ran away. They had to look for him three days to find him. To me that is foul play,” Jackson said.

Police interviewed Murray three days after Jackson’s death. Authorities say he is a not a suspect, though the cardiologist is a key figure in the investigation because he was with Jackson in the mansion and tried to revive him. His car has been seized after police said they believe the vehicle may contain drugs or other evidence.

Jackson appeared on “Larry King” with promoter Leonard Rowe. When asked by King how he’s dealt with his son’s death, Joe Jackson replied, “I took it very hard.” Jackson added he didn’t know where his son’s body is being kept and hasn’t seen the results from a second autopsy performed on Michael Jackson at the family’s request.

Jackson also denied ever beating Michael, and said he and Katherine are not separated – even though she lives at the Encino family home and he lives in Las Vegas.

Variety has provided details of the contract between Michael Jackson and AEG Live, the promoter behind his 50 sold-out concerts at London’s 02 Arena that he was prepping for before his death on June 25.

According to the original contract, the initial agreement called for Jackson to do 31 shows. But, once presales indicated an overwhelming response beyond the 31 performances, Jackson “said yes to more shows but no more than 50,” stated AEG’s VP of communications Michael Roth.

Jackson stipulated two conditions for the additional run: that AEG would rent him a country estate near London so that his children would have a retreat during the shows’ July-February duration, and that some arrangement would be made to have the Guinness Book of World Records to acknowledge the tour’s record-breaking run.

The contract between Jackson and AEG called for 10 shows in each of the months of July, August and September, with three months off before resuming in January and February. That would have been an average of 2 1/4 shows a week, said Roth.

Roth also addressed rumors that the 02’s four initial shows were postponed due to Jackson’s flagging health. He said the delays had to do with tour director Kenny Ortega’s request for more rehearsal time. Also, Roth pointed out, AEG needed more tickets to meet the swelling demand from media and VIPs for the kick-off show, hence the delayed start date. Even beyond the 50 sold-out dates, Roth said there was still a waiting list of 200,000 people hoping to nab a seat.

Everybody from Ortega to choreographer Travis Payne attested to Jackson’s fitness for the shows, and that 130 hours of rehearsal time — on a Burbank sound stage as well as the Inglewood Forum and the Staples Center — had been filmed, said Roth. Much of it is full-on performance by Jackson and his band, not just walkthroughs.

Although Roth continues to field phone calls and emails related to Jackson, the dust had largely settled. At least until an autopsy report will determine how much money AEG will be able to recoup from its $20 million-plus investment in the tour.

Joe Jackson appeared on Larry King to discuss his son Michael’s death and accusations of foul play.

Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson’s father, said that he felt that his son’s death might be the result of “foul play.”
“I just couldn’t believe what was happening to Michael. I do believe it was foul play. I do believe that. Yes,” Jackson told ABC News.

A second autopsy on the “King of Pop” has yet to offer any conclusive answers.
Toxicology results have yet to come in, and The L.A. County coroner’s office will wait for them before formally listing Michael Jackson’s cause of death. The LAPD is looking specifically at the role prescription drugs may have played in the singer’s death, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Various types of prescription drugs were reportedly recovered from Jackson’s home by the detectives, including an anesthetic that’s normally used during most surgical procedures. Furthermore, many of MiJac’s physicians were contacted for their records, but it’s still unclear whether any criminal charges will be filed until the final autopsy reports are revealed.

Joe Jackson has also expressed to ABC News that he has an interest having a “direct role in raising” Michael’s three children.

Monday night, Michael Jackson’s elaborate, gold casket was open for viewing by family members at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles. Tuesday, it was closed when presented to fans during the memorial tribute at the Staples Center. And now, as it awaits burial, the casket containing the King of Pop, who died June 25, sits in a temporary resting place – a Forest Lawn crypt belonging to Motown founder Berry Gordy, reports the New York Post.

But while Jackson rests, lively discussions are being held by a divided Jackson family about where to bury their golden child, according to the Post.

Brother Jermaine and father Joseph reportedly want Michael to be buried at the Neverland Ranch, where a prospective museum could generate future income, despite a likely lengthy process to transform the property into a Graceland-like tourist attraction.

Mother Katherine and the other siblings, however, are said to seek a more respectful burial ground, in keeping with Michael’s desire never to return to Neverland after he believed sheriff’s deputies had tainted the property when they sought evidence in the child-molestation case against him.

“Katherine doesn’t want him at Neverland,” a source tells PEOPLE. “She thinks it’s a place of horrible memories. She says Michael wouldn’t want to be there. Part of the family disagrees with her. But Katherine definitely wants to keep Michael’s wishes that he not rest at Neverland.”

In the matriarch’s favor is that, due to strict land-use codes, securing local government permission to bury him on private property can be a challenging and a drawn-out process taking up to a month (although sprinkling cremated remains requires only the property owner’s consent.)

So, for now, Michael Jackson remains in the Gordy crypt, which is described as a sparse, empty mausoleum highlighted by a G monogram and located on the same property as the graves for such Hollywood icons Lucille Ball, Bette Davis, Gene Autry and Sandra Dee, as well as James Bond producer Cubby Broccoli, comic Freddie Prinze and flamboyant entertainer Liberace.

Are we that guilty on how we treated Michael Jackson when he was alive?

Gawker had a pretty concise rundown on how the MJ Memorial was going so far. If you click on the link, you’ll see an image of elephants being paraded down the streets. I know that the late King of Pop was his own media circus, but in death, can the man have some sort of peace?

While your favorite stars like Mariah Carey, John Mayer, Jennifer Hudson soulfully lament the star on stage, I think my stomach will be doing flips as Usher eulogizes MJ’s legacy with a moonwalk while the corpse lays in state on stage.

Why are we parading Mike’s body for applause?

Have the jokes, insinuations, paradoies and assaults on Mike’s character finally hit us in our own bread basket as we learn that the man was in debt, drugged up and a prisoner of his own celebrity? As we left MJ to face his own man in the mirror, alone, I don’t believe that we’re wrong in celebrating the life of someone who’s brought so much joy into our lives.

But where does the celebration end and madness begin?

I ask these questions because I, myself, am wondering where do we go from here. Amidst all the up-to-the-nanosecond updates from everyone who has a blog, media circus coverage and Papa Joe pushing his record label – we’re doing everything but propping the body up and letting folks take pictures with it.

It’s the Jackson ladies versus the men in the decision of how the public should pay their final respects to Michael Jackson.

MJ’s father, Joe, as well as all the Jackson brothers, wanted to honor their brother with the excessiveness of both James Brown and Princess Diana‘s funerals, says the King of Pop’s former business manager, Dr. Tohme Tohme.

Joe and the Jackson men were set on having an open casket funeral and having the late King of Pop’s body driven through the streets so fans could throw flowers onto the casket a la Princess Diana.

“The family is fiercely divided. You’ve got the brothers on one hand, who all want to perform and turn the funeral into a showbiz extravaganza, and then you have Katherine on the other side who is a deeply religious woman and is determined that this won’t descend into a circus,” Dr. Tohme told reporters.

Bless her heart!

Added former Jackson tour manager Frank DiLeo: “‘She is the one who is pushing for a spiritual element to the funeral. If the brothers had their way, it would be the Jackson Five’s greatest performance. Or rather, the Jackson Four’s greatest performance.”

Momma Katherine has been backed by daughters Janet and LaToya in her decision to have a closed casket memorial at the Staples Center in LA on Tuesday. A single sequined glove and black fedora will be placed on top of the coffin in honor of the late music legend.

Katherine has yet to decide if Jackson’s three children will attend the memorial, but if they do, they’ll be at the Staples Center sans masks.

The deceased pop star left all his assets to the Michael Jackson Family Trust and has named his mother Katherine, 79, as guardian of his children – Prince, 12, Paris, 11, and Blanket, 7. Attorney John Branca and John McClain, a music executive, are named as executors.

The will does not list any charities as beneficiaries, nor does it specifically exclude Joe Jackson, Michael’s dad, as had been rumored. “There are no numbers in the will,” says a source familiar with the document. “The assets are going into the family trust.”

For privacy reasons, the source cannot name the specific beneficiaries of the trust.

Last night at the BET Awards, CNN’s Don Lemon interviewed Joe Jackson about the death of his son. In typical Joe Jackson fashion, the man answered Lemon’s questions with abrupt, detached answers… even going so far as to pass the mic to his spokesperson and attorney and then promoted his record company.

WTF?!

Jackson wasn’t in line with daughter Janet’s feelings and the rest of the world as his answers were strange right off the bat: Lemon asks him how he’s doing and Jackson responds, “great, I’m doing pretty good,” which seems peculiar given the timing of when he lost his son.

“It has been really tough. Remember, we just lost the biggest star in the world,” Jackson concluded. He’s your son, I say…

With the press, understandably, running to Jackson’s parents to hear and share condolences and obtain insight on Michael and his legacy, the person who showed up on the red carpet seemed to be a distant father. No traces of shock or grief, but you can check out the video and see for yourself.

The one thing that’s consistent with all of this though is that his art of promotion definitely seems to be intact.
