Reminisce with us as we go down a list of some of the folks that we hope didn’t drop the soap this year.

T.I.

T.I. probably had the worst year when it comes to being in jail.  After serving a jail sentence on federal weapons charges, T.I was released from a halfway house on March 26th and put on  probation.  However on September 1st, T.I. was arrested again after the driver of his car made an illegal u-turn.  Police searched the vehicle and found drugs in the car.

T.I. went back to jail on November 1st to serve an 11 month sentence.

Lil’ Wayne

Weezy did a bid on Rikers Island from March 8 to November 4th on weapons charges.  During his time in the clink, Weezy managed to release several music videos that he shot before going in, as well as the I Am Not A Human Being album.

DMX

DMX was in and out of jail this year. In March, he went in for violating his probation. After being released in July, he went back to jail three weeks later on a reckless driving charge for 90 days.  On November 19th, he was arrested for violating his probation again.

Suge Knight

The former Death Row Records head was arrested for driving with a suspended license in early December, but earlier in the year, Suge was nabbed by police for ordering a hit on a man.

Foxy Brown

Foxy Brown was arrested this summer after violating a protective order placed on her by her neighbor, Arlene Richmond.  Richmond claimed that Foxy yelled at her and mooned her.

Wiz Khalifa

The “Black and Yellow” rapper was busted in November after police found a sizable amount of marijuana on his tourbus.  He was charged with possession and trafficking.

Jae Millz

The Young Money rapper was arrested in May after his girlfriend called the cops on him during an argument.  Police found that Millz was in possession of marijuana.

Kid Cudi

The Cudster was arrested on June 11th in New York and charged with felony criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance after police were called in response to a disturbance involving Cudi and an unidentified woman.  Cudi later admitted that the controlled substance he was caught with was cocaine.

Ice T

Though he plays a cop on Law & Order, Ice T found himself on the wrong side of the law in July when he was arrested for driving with expired auto insurance. The charge was later dismissed.

Too $hort

The Bay Area hip-hop legend was arrested and charged with three counts of misdemeanor battery in July after a scuffle in an Idaho concert venue.

Petey Pablo

Petey Pablo found himself in serious trouble on September 11th when he was arrested at Raleigh-Durham International Airport after airport security found a gun in his carry-on luggage.

Juvenile

In February, Juvenile was arrested at his home after police responded to a call from his neighbors complaining about the smell of marijuana coming from the home.

Flesh-N-Bone of Bone Thugz N Harmony

In March, the Bone Thugz member was arrested during a concert in the group’s hometown of Cleveland on warrants for felonious assault with a firearm, and domestic violence.

Karriem “Biggs” Burke

The co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records was arrested in October, along with 43 other people, on federal drug charges.

Khia

The raunchy female rapper was arrested in September for “endangering security interests.”

Kid Cudi returns with his highly anticipated second LP under Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music Label. Man on the Moon II:The Legend of Mr. Rager is a continuation of his first studio album MotM: The End of Day, released last year. On the last album he ends with a uplifting song preparing you for his reign. Now he finds himself as a dark, depressed soul as Mr. Rager.

The Lyrics

Imagine Jimi Hendrix dropping his Fender Stratocaster after playing “Voodoo Child” and replacing it with a microphone and a drum machine. Kid Cudi approaches music in an unrestricted, pure manner that can easily be underappreciated until time slowly catches up. Cudi is so honest in his lyrics. He addresses his older brother leaving his wife with kids. He snorts coke on the song “These Worries” and it sounds so creepy. He has a sad, bleak, tone throughout the album that makes you want to tell him “It’s alright man, don’t beat yourself up.” Only two things about this album kept me from giving it a perfect rating. One of them was the hook on “Wild’n Cuz I’m Young.” It is redundant and reflects of all those songs we hear on the radio. The chorus alone took away the creativity and what we would expect from the song.

The Production

The production on this album is, put very simply, a trip. A trip into the subconscious movement of ideas and emotions. Most of the production is handled by Man on the Moon producer Emile. There is a noticeably less No I.D. influence, he produced “Simple As…” and “Soundrack 2 my Life” on the first Man on the Moon. The music is very spaced out and airy. The album’s genre feels like an alternative rap and rock fusion. It often switches up on you but in a weird way it still connects. Kid Cudi’s voice is also a very important instrument in these songs. Not a traditional singer, Cudi brings life in his words with a harmony made of a high man’s drawl.

The Features

There are very few guest features. Mary J. Blige lends her voice on “Don’t’ Play this Song” and “These Worries.” Cee-Lo sings the chorus in “Scott Mescudi vs. the World.” The great thing about having R&B singers on spacey songs is that they can be made to fit in perfectly with the sound of the song. Rappers on the other hand take a little bit more of a push to blend in with songs where they are featured. GLC and Chip the Ripper have good verses on “The End” but they don’t necessarily tap into the production and theme of the song or the album as a whole.

Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager is one of those pieces of music that can be overlooked the first time around. To appreciate its sound you must enter the album and shut the door behind you. Take the trip with Mr. Rager as he shows you his soul in an effort to enter yours and maybe even corrupt it as well.

Album Rating: 4 ½ out of 5

The Cudster’s second album, Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager, sold an impressive 169,400 copies in its first week on shelves. However, it wasn’t enough to solidify a debut at the very top of the chart.  MOTM2 lands at the number 3 slot.

Cee Lo Green’s latest album, The Lady Killer, debuts at number 9 with 41,400 copies of his excellent album sold.

The Cudster made the announcement during an interview with MTV.

“I’m just over rapping… I don’t get any fulfillment out of it anymore,” Cudi told MTV. “Like I don’t get any fulfillment out of writing a 16 [bars]. That’s why you never really hear me on Kanye joints like that, I’m not passionate about it. I’m more passionate when he be like ‘yo Cudi come up with a hook or something.’ Cuz he asks me to put verses down, but I’ll try to like procrastinate or disappear.”

We can’t say that we’re gonna miss the rapping Cudi…

Best of luck to him in his new genre of music.

(But we’re sure he’ll be back to rapping in less than a year…)

After listening to the far-too-long “Christian Dior Denim Flow,” we wish we hadn’t stumbled across this.  This is by far our least favorite of all the “Good Friday” releases.

Kanye pulls in Kid Cudi, Pusha T, John Legend, Lloyd Banks & Ryan Leslie for the seven minute song that just doesn’t seem to do anything but overstay its welcome.

We hope Christian Dior wrote a check for that song title shout-out.

Cudi was arrested back in June after an argument with a girl in a New York hotel when police found a glass bottle filled with a controlled substance.  Cudi later admitted that the substance was cocaine, which he had been using to get through tough interviews with the press.

Cudi will have to perform two days of community service and stay out of trouble for the next six months (ahem T.I.!).

They’ve all contemplated retirement at least ONCE. So, here’s what they should do when it actually happens….Alright, so while I was heading to work this morning, it dawned on me- Why do so many rappers contemplate retirement..especially the younger ones? Certain reasons come to mind, but I couldn’t fix my brain cells into understanding the concept of backing away from something you love, so MUCH.

Of course, music industry politics come to mind when contemplating the shift in careers. But still, during those trying times, someone(s) or something has to wrangle that thought back into the secluded spot it derived from.

And since not ONE rapper I’m about to list has carried the idea of “retirement” all the way through, I thought it would be extremely generous of me to supply a couple of cool “Post-Retirement Jobs” based on their previous work experiences.

Some have attempted to bow out gracefully and humbly, others, well others attempted to storm out the game due to a sequence of events that just didn’t fall in their favor and others need to just quit, RIGHT NOW!. Though most of these are done in jest (a disclaimer that’s extremely necessary around these parts), some of my suggestions are based off what that particular person has dealt with in the past…sooo..lol yeah…enjoy!

Lupe Fiasco- Lupe toyed with the idea of retirement back in January of 2008 claiming he was tired of the rigid lifestyle. Well,  since Mr. Fiasco is one of the braniacs of the hip-hop bunch, wouldn’t it be cool to see him behind a counter at your local comic book store? Japanese Animation: Check! Skateboarding at ones lyrical leisure: Check! And he’ll never be judged for sporting Clark Kent type frames with an afro that slightly resembles a dirty black tennis ball. Talk about Cool, lol.

Kid Cudi- The self proclaimed moon man has it all mapped out- one album and that’s it. Back in March, Cudi took to the eStreets of his own blog basically explaining he’s jut not built for the limelight due to the gossip, politics and everything in between. Well since this “martian” is so out of this world, why not polish up on a couple astronomy facts and become a NASA Space Camp tour guide. This way, he REALLY has a chance at becoming the first rapper on the moon. Far out, dude.

Diddy- I don’t think he’s ever mentioned the idea of retiring. However,  I personally wouldn’t mind if he planted his hyper ass in a seat somewhere. And to the powers that be at MTV, please cease in giving him the ability to create TV shows every time he blinks. I’ll unplug my DirectTV box if I see Diddy Presents “Making The Dinner: The Ultimate Search For The Sexiest Meal in America”. GAG!

While performing at Cleveland’s Ohio Homecoming concert yesterday, a drunken fan concertgoer ran on stage and attacked the rapper.

After security dragged the unnamed man off stage, Cudi ran off stage after them to retaliate.  Then he goes back on stage and finishes the song…

Maybe it was Cudi’s liquid cocaine dealer trying to get his money.

This is not the first incident involving Cudi and his fans rushing the stage…

When Kid Cudi was arrested last month in NYC for felony mischief and possession of a controlled substance, the internets went nuts trying to figure out what the liquid substance cops found was.

It was later revealed to be liquid cocaine.

Cudi himself was silent on the incident until last night at a show in Brooklyn. Vibe.com was at the show and claims that the Cudster addressed it briefly before the end of his set:

“I know yall heard about me in news, I was just doing some blow… but I’m done with it. I’m sorry, I’m not gonna let you guys down.”

Kid Cudi’s now putting finishing touches on his forthcoming album, Man On The Moon 2: The Legend Of Mr. Rager.

Kid Cudi was reportedly busted earlier today in NYC for “felony criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance.”

According to TMZ:

Sources say Kid took a 24-year-old woman’s phone and slammed it to smithereens.  He also allegedly broke the door of her apartment off its hinges.

Cops arrived and found a glass bottle of a controlled substance.

The Cudster’s music is known for being rather trippy, and the rapper calls himself the “Lonely Stoner.”

This comes as no surprise…

But what could’ve been in that glass bottle?  Are they selling weed in glass bottles now??
