In what was most likely a preview of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals, LeBron James and the Miami Heat looked to send a message to the Chicago Bulls. On the way to a 97 to 93 win at American Airlines Arena LeBron made a step ladder out of an unsuspecting John Lucas, III.

Miami Heat point guard Dwayne Wade celebrated his 30th birthday at Setai in Miami Sunday night with friends and loved ones. Wade’s guests included girlfriend Gabrielle Union, Pat Riley, Usher, Lebron James, Chris Bosh, Udonis Haslem, and a slew of others. The private affair was sponsored by Hennessy and Belvedere. Among some of the amazing gifts he received were performances from friends T.I., Rick Ross, Common and a special birthday serenade from Kelly Rowland. Dwayne was also gifted with a car, a Hublot 3000 diamond encrusted watch and a vintage 1982 bottle of Dom Perignon.

LeBron James earned a reputation for failing in the clutch during the 2011 NBA Playoffs, and he did it again last night against the Los Angeles Clippers. As usual, LeBron delivered the goods for the Miami Heat in the first three quarters, but fell off in the fourth.

LeBron James proposed to his long-time girlfriend Savannah on New Years Eve night. It may not be the ring James and the Heat are trying for, but it is special none-the-less. The ex- Cleveland Cavalier spoke out about his recent engagement saying:

“My girl, she’s really excited. She would love to answer more questions about it than me. But she’s happy, my family’s happy and that’s what it’s all about. . . It should be a surprise. For any woman, any time something like that happens, she was surprised.

It was great that all the friends and family were there to bring in a new year. Even my kids were happy about it, so that’s good. … I feel good. I feel good. It’s a good point in my life right now.”

When LeBron James announced that he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat in July of 2010, it seemed like Cavs fans in Ohio would never forgive him. NBA fans, the time is almost here. Basketball starts on Christmas Day and before the games begin, Lebron James sat down with Sports Center to reflect on his first season with the Miami Heat. For the most part of the season, Lebron was the NBA’s public enemy number one. After leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers by announcing his decision at an excruciatingly long press conference, he and the Heat didn’t live up to the hype.

In the interview, James makes claims to not have an ego and to have laughed off all the jokes his haters cracked about him. He also explains how he felt about the lockout. He says he cared more about the fans than himself during the lockout. When asked if he’s become a better player than he was last season, he responded, “We’ll see.” Yes we will, Lebron. Yes we will. With the NBA season more likely to happen on your XBox or Playstation than in real life, the players have made plans to go on tour if the lockout continues.

Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Paul Pierce are among the players rumored to begin globe trotting for the fans if more NBA games are canceled. According to ESPN the tour is scheduled to begin Oct. 30 and end Nov. 9 and will make stops in Puerto Rico, London, Macau, and Australia. Two games each will be played at sites in London and Australia.

Several players have already been playing in exhibition games and summer leagues to stay in shape and keep the fans from rioting. Negotiations are currently at a stalemate and Commissioner David Stern is threatening to cancel games through Christmas if an agreement is not reached soon.

Last night, Lebron James celebrated his girlfriend Savannah’s 25th birthday in New York City. They were spotted on a double date at the Waverly Inn with Carmelo Anthony and his wife Lala Vazquez.

Lebron and Savannah also celebrated over the weekend in Akron, Ohio with an Arabian theme birthday bash. NBA player Chris Paul and his fiancee Jada Crawley made a surprise appearance. Lebron and Savannah danced the night away.

According to a Miami Heat insider, Chris Bosh may be getting traded. The snitch revealed to mediatakeout, Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and team president Pat Riley have held meetings about trading Bosh. The insider claims Chris Bosh is furious and blames Lebron James and Dwyane Wade. Looks like we may get to see that ugly cry of Chris Bosh again real soon. LeBron James’ plan to join forces with another superstar to get his championship ring was foiled by an all-time great who decided last summer to stay with the team that drafted him. While the 2008 Boston Celtics continue to be the shining example of a team where three superstars joined forces to win it all, the 2004 Lakers are an example of how a blatant attempt at taking a shortcut to a ring doesn’t guarantee a championship, word to Karl Malone. While Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd succeeded a few days ago in removing themselves, check out the list of some of the best NBA players who had the misfortune of falling short of the NBA mountaintop.

10) Allen Iverson

Iverson was the first overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft and revolutionized the NBA. With a killer crossover not seen since Tim Hardaway‘s heyday, A.I. went on to win Rookie of the Year, crossed up Michael Jordan, won four NBA scoring titles, was an 11-time All-Star, and the 2001 NBA MVP. In 2001 Iverson led the Philadelphia 76ers to his only NBA Finals appearance against the vaunted Los Angeles Lakers. In a Game 1 for the ages, Iverson carved up the Shaquille O’Neal-led Lakers for 48 points giving L.A. their only loss of the post season. Iverson is not officially retired, but was unable to land on an NBA roster in 2010-11 after reported reluctance to take on a limited role led to his release from the Memphis Grizzlies and Detroit Pistons.

9) Patrick Ewing

Patrick Ewing was the number one pick of the 1985 draft, the prize of the first ever Draft Lottery. Ewing led the New York Knicks back to prominence in the late 80′s and made them a perennial contender in the 90′s. He was voted one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all-time, is a two-time Gold medal winner, 11-time All-star, and the owner of one of the sweetest jump shots by a 7-footer. Ewing, who guaranteed an NBA title more than once during his career, fell short to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls three straight seasons in three different rounds of the playoffs (1991 first round, 1992 Eastern Conference Semifinals, 1993 Eastern Conference Finals) and missed a golden opportunity to win the ring in 1994 up 3-2 against the Houston Rockets in the Finals. The rest of Ewing’s Knicks career was filled with heartbreak as they lost the 1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals to the Indiana Pacers after blowing Game 1 at home and missing a Game 7 finger roll. A brawl (and subsequent suspensions) with Miami in 1997 kept them from a Conference Finals rematch against Jordan’s Bulls, and Ewing watched from the sidelines as the Knicks improbable run to the 1999 NBA Finals ended in five games to Tim Duncan and David Robinson.

8) Dominique Wilkins

“The Human Highlight Film” is a nine-time NBA All-Star who was the face of the Atlanta Hawks in the 1980′s. With a career average just under 25 points per game ‘Nique is one of 12 NBA players to score more than 25,000 points in his career. Wilkins’ only scoring title came in 1986 when he averaged 30.3 points (while Michael Jordan missed more than half the season with a broken foot). Wilkins is best known for his highlight reel dunks that won him two slam dunk titles in 1985 and 1990. Despite being a career 32 point per game scorer in the postseason, Wilkins never reached the NBA Finals or the Conference Finals for that matter, but was part of an epic Game 7 battle in 1988 versus Larry Bird in the Conference Semifinals.

7) Pete Maravich

“Pistol” Pete was a college legend (averaged over 40 points a game in all four seasons at LSU) who brought his all-aound game to the NBA in 1970. He was a five-time All-star, four time All-NBA selection, and was voted one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest players. In 10 full seasons playing for the Atlanta Hawks and New Orleans Jazz in the NBA, Maravich worked magic with the basketball before, well, Magic. He led the NBA in scoring in 1977 and lit up the court with playground moves, circus passes and shots you would find on the And 1 tour today. Maravich scored a career high 68 points and scored over 40 points in a game numerous times in his career en route to a 24.2 points per game career average. Knee injuries cut his career short in 1980 and he died of a heart attack in 1988 while playing a pick up game.

6) LeBron James

After seven years in Cleveland, James exercised his right as a free agent and took his talents to Miami to play with his close friend Dwyane Wade. LeBron exceeded the hype surrounding him out of high school winning Rookie of the Year honors and was selected to seven straight All-Star Games in his eight years in the league. He is a two-time NBA MVP and averages 27.7 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for his career! James also smashed many “youngest ever” records including youngest ever to record a triple-double in an NBA game, make the All-NBA team, win MVP of the All-Star game and average 30 points a game (he averaged 31.4 in ’05-’06 season). James carried the Cavaliers to the 2007 NBA Finals where he was swept by the San Antonio Spurs. The following season he was outdueled in the Eastern Conference Finals by Paul Pierce and the newly formed Big 3 of the Boston Celtics in Game 7. Influenced by the Celtics blueprint, James along with Chris Bosh took Miami by storm in the 2010-11 season with their own Big 3, fighting off criticism and controversy on the way back to the NBA Finals. James would fall short to the Dallas Mavericks in six games. Not to worry, according to Vegas oddsmakers James should be off this list by the end of next season.

5) George Gervin

The “Iceman” had a decorated ABA and NBA career in which he amassed 26,595 total points. Gervin won four scoring titles (only Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan have more), played in nine straight NBA All-Star games (12 straight if you add his three from the ABA), and finished second twice behind Bill Walton and Moses Malone respectively for NBA MVP honors. Known for his rain-making finger roll, effortlessly launched from his fingertips while gliding through the lane, Gervin averaged 26.2 points in his NBA career and made it to three conference finals before losing to the eventual NBA champion Washington Bullets in 1979 Eastern Conference Finals, and the Lakers in 1982 and ’83 Western Conference Finals.

4) Charles Barkley

“The Round Mound of Rebound” was voted one of the 50 greatest players, is an 11-time All-star, a two-time Olympic Gold medal winner, a five-time All NBA team selection, and the 1993 NBA MVP. No one his size (listed as 6’6″, but more like 6’4″), calling themselves a power forward, played harder in the paint. Barkley regularly outrebounded taller opponents and was a double-double machine pulling down a league-leading and career high 14.6 boards per game in 1987. His ferocious dunks were a signature of his game in Philadelphia and Phoenix. Barkley fell short to Jordan’s Bulls in the 1993 NBA Finals and missed out on his chance for a rematch as a member of the Houston Rockets in 1997 when the Rockets lost in the Western Conference Finals because of a game winning three pointer by…

3) John Stockton

One of the 50 greatest players, Stockton is the NBA all-time assists and steals leader with over 15,000 dimes and 3200 thefts. He led the NBA in assists in nine consecutive seasons. Stockton is a 10-time All-star and 11-time All NBA selection. Regarded as one of the best pure point guards in the league, Stockton led the Utah Jazz to the postseason in 18 consecutive seasons. Stockton made the pick and roll play a household name (and favorite Hip Hop simile) with teammate Karl Malone. Stockton made the Western Conference Finals three times and the NBA Finals in back-to-back seasons losing both times to Jordan’s Bulls (see a theme here?).

2) Karl Malone

Widely regarded as the best power forward of all-time, Malone was voted one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players, is a 14-time All-star, a 14-time All NBA selection (11-time First Team selection), and a two-time NBA MVP (one of nine players to win MVP of the league more than once). The Mailman is a career 25 points per game scorer who regularly finished top 5 in the league every year. He is the NBA’s second all-time leading scorer with 36,374 points. Malone fell short of an NBA title twice with the Utah Jazz, but while Stockton retired after the 2002-2003 season, Malone took a last ditch shot at a ring joining the three-time champion Los Angeles Lakers. With an All-star starting lineup that included O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Gary Payton and Malone the Lakers fell short in the 2004 Finals to Detroit.

1) Elgin Baylor

Drafted first overall in 1958 by the Minneapolis Lakers, Elgin Baylor was one of the best players in the league for over 10 years. With a career average of 27.4 points per game, Baylor averaged 38.3 in 1961-1962 season (which would have led the league in any other year if Wilt Chamberlain didn’t average 50.4!). He was Rookie of the Year, an 11-time All-Star, and made the All-NBA First Team 11 consecutive seasons from 1959 to 1969. Baylor had the misfortune of running into the Boston Celtics (in the midst of their insane run of eight straight championships) seven times in the NBA Finals and the miracle ’69-’70 New York Knicks of Willis Reed once (that’s 0-8 in the Finals). Injuries cut short Baylor’s stellar career and he retired in 1972, the year the Lakers finally won the title (Smh).

Honorable Mention:

Reggie Miller

Arguably the greatest shooter of all time and one of the greatest clutch players in NBA history, Reggie Miller spent his entire 18-year NBA career with the Indiana Pacers. Once the all-time leader in three point field goals made (before Ray Allen passed him this past season) Miller led the Pacers to the 2000 NBA Finals against the Lakers. Miller was routinely ousted in the playoffs by Ewing’s Knicks losing in the conference finals in ’94 and ’99. Reggie was rumored to come out of retirement to join the Big 3 in Boston three years ago, but stayed in the broadcast booth.

Jason Terry led his team the Dallas Mavericks to victory last night against the Miami Heat, 112-103! Dirk Nowitzki scored 29 points with help from Shawn Marion. “We didn’t want to go to Miami and give them basically two shots to close us out. So we kept plugging there in the fourth. So definitely a big win for us,” Nowitzki said. “And now we have to go down there and basically approach Sunday’s game as Game 7.” Lebron James wasn’t much help to Miami, seeming distracted by his personal life. Dwayne Wade took charge of the Heat dropping 23 points even though he was playing with a sore left hip. Chris Bosh lead the team with 10 rebounds and James added 8 points in his worst playoff game thus far. The Mavericks lead the series 3-2 and can take the entire championship this Sunday!

New Salary Cap Suggests “The Big 3″ May Be Broken Up

The Miami Heat are facing more issues than just winning the Championship. According to The Palm Beach Post:
“The Big 3 is under contract through the 2014 post-season. But if the NBA emerges from this summer’s collective-bargaining negotiations with a hard salary cap, Commissioner David Stern said, it’s possible the Heat wouldn’t be able to keep all three superstars.

Chris Bosh and LeBron James signed $110.1 million contracts last summer while Wade signed for $107 million. The Heat likely wouldn’t be able to fit all three under a hard cap.

“That’s part of the negotiation,” Stern said before Game 1. “This is very complex. If there’s a will, we’ll be able to work all those issues out.”

The NBA, like the NFL, is headed to a lockout July 1 if players and owners cannot agree to a new CBA before the current one expires on June 30. Stern said owners and players will conduct a “full-blown bargaining session” today in Miami.”

The Miami Heat Take Game 1 Of NBA Finals Against Dallas Mavericks

Last night, the Miami Heat beat the Dallas Mavericks 92-84 in the NBA Finals. While Miami leads the series 1-0; the win was was not come by easily. Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh had a good game though none of them were consistent. Wade’s 22 points 10 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks were very impressive, especially being that his performance in the first half of the game was poor. Even with those stats, Dirk Nowitzki was able to accumulate 27 points, with help from Shawn Marion. The first three quarters of the game was intense, very close and displayed great defense from both teams. In the fourth quarter, a three-point shot by Wade sent the Dallas Mavericks into a defensive struggle resulting in a loss for the eager team.

The NBA Finals finally (no pun intended) get under way tonight (May 31st) in Miami. In a rematch of the 2006 championship Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks look to avenge a disheartening loss to Dwyane Wade and the Heat five years ago where they blew a 2-0 series lead and a 13-point 4th quarter lead in Game 3.

Besides Nowitzki and super sixth man Jason Terry for Dallas and Wade and Udonis Haslem for Miami, all the players are different, many new to the NBA Finals stage. 38 year-old Jason Kidd has been to the Finals twice as a member of the New Jersey Nets and LeBron James put his former team on his back en route to the 2007 Finals before getting swept by San Antonio.

I will admit I was the main person saying the Heat would not win a title this year. Since that statement in late October, the Boston Celtics traded away one of the key pieces of their defense in Kendrick Perkins (a major factor in how easily Miami handled the Celtics) the Atlanta Hawks beat Orlando and the only real center in the Eastern Conference in Dwight Howard, the Memphis Grizzlies upset the San Antonio Spurs in the first round and the Lakers got swept out of the postseason by the Dallas Mavericks without a fight in the Western Conference Semifinals.

I can easily say that the road to the Finals was laid out without any major obstacles for Miami, but that would be a major disservice to how dominant they have been. None of Miami’s playoff series have gone more than five games, something I expected in the first round, but not after that. The way the Heat are playing is something I expected in year two. They have been surprisingly cohesive in dismantling the best defense in the NBA in the Eastern Conference Finals. It seems all the criticism and inability to close games during the regular season has been their training ground. They have gone through the playoff level adversity of Jordan versus the Pistons, and Isiah versus the Celtics in the course of one regular season and are ready to reach their goal way ahead of schedule.

That being said, I am through picking against the Heat. Chris Bosh has found his superstar swagger and Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller have finally arrived after injuries robbed them of precious game time.

Prediction: The Heat will roll out the Derrick Rose defensive strategy on Dirk. They will live with Nowitzki making those unguardable one-legged fadeaway jumpers and run Terry, Kidd and Peja Stojakovich off the three point line. While they have not faced a center like Tyson Chandler so far, Chris Bosh and Joel Anthony should be able to neutralize him. The Mavs will miss Caron Butler, though Butler is not ruling himself out for the series attempting to come back from a snapped patella tendon in his knee that sidelined him since January 1st. Shawn Marion has turned back the clock to his “Matrix” heyday which will help. However, like the Bulls series it will be 3 superstars on 1 which equals too much for Dallas. Heat win one for LeBron in six games, 4-2.

LeBron James’ decision continues to pay off dividends. With a nail-biting 83-80 win over the Chicago Bulls the Miami Heat will advance to the NBA finals for the first time since 2006 when the franchise won its first championship.

LeBron led all scorers with 28 points. Derrick Rose had 25 for The Bulls on 9 for 28 shooting. The Heat were down by 12 with three minutes left in the game but pulled together an incredible 18 to 3 run that stunned the Chicago crowd.

The Miami Heat will now face the Dallas Mavericks, who they beat in 2006. Game 1 is on Tuesday May 31st in Miami.

The Miami Heat will not go under without a fight! Lebron James led the Miami heat with much help from Dwyane Wade to an 85-75 victory over the Chicago Bulls last night! James scored 29 points with 10 Reb, 5 Ast, 3 Stl. D Wade wasn’t far behind with 24 points. Spoelstra called Udonis Haslem “an absolute championship warrior,” he scored 13 points off the bench. Derrick Rose led Chicago with 21 points and Deng was the only other Bulls player in double point standing. This win ties the Eastern Conference Finals at 1-1. The Heat also get home-court advantage for game 3 this Sunday.

“The series has just started,” James said. “It’s 1-1. We’re excited that we were able to come here and get a win. But it’s just started.”

LeBron James said he was sorry on Wednesday night (May 11th). A year to the day after a game 5 debacle against the very same Boston Celtics, where James took tremendous criticism for allegedly quitting on the court in a 120-88 rout, he apologized to fans, family and friends he left behind in Cleveland:

“The way it panned out with all the friends and family and the fans back home, I apologize for the way it happened. I knew this opportunity was once in a lifetime. To be able to come down here and pair with two guys and this organization — in order for me to move on with my career, that team that we just defeated, we had to go through them.”

After a “decision” that shook the landscape of the NBA, a premature (some would argue immature) celebratory pat-on-the-back style post-signing pep rally, a tumultuous regular season filled with blood, sweat and tears in the locker room, the much-maligned superstar that is LeBron James finally exorcised the NBA playoff demon that is the Boston Celtics and threw the non-clutch gorilla off his back at the same time in a classic final flurry of dagger-filled buckets, complete with after shot poses that would make MJ proud.

After LeBron scored the last 10 points of a 97-87 series clinching victory against a very different, injury-plagued Boston Celtics squad, he immediately took to one knee and buried his head in his left hand after the final buzzer sounded. He had not won the NBA championship, a goal that is more of a possibility now than at the start of the season, but he might as well have. The Celtics have been responsible for two of James last three playoff exits beginning in 2008 where he dueled with Paul Pierce in a classic Game 7 for the right to go to the NBA Finals that year. 2008 coincidentally was the first year Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen joined Paul Pierce to form the “Big 3″ blueprint every team seems like it is trying to follow. King James admitted their union influenced his decision to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Now I ask, should this apology make Cleveland fans feel better? LeBron pretty much admitted that even though then-Cavaliers GM Danny Ferry tried every year to add pieces around his hometown superstar, including the likes of All-Star guard Mo Williams, Antawn Jamison and Shaquille O’Neal that he didn’t have enough talent around him to beat the Celtics.

I guess Cleveland fans can take solace in the fact that LeBron finally let his guard down emotionally to admit his thought process.

Baby steps, people.

LeBron James is one step closer to winning that coveted NBA championship. The Miami Heat overcame their biggest obstacle to a title with a 97 to 87 win over the Boson Celtics, closing out their Eastern Conference semifinals match-up 4 games to 1. The Heat will now face the winner of the Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls series in the Eastern Conference Finals.

LeBron and Dwyane Wade scored 33 and 34 points respectively. Chris Bosh chipped in 14 points and 11 boards. After the game LeBron took a knee in prayer.

He and his teammates knew they had to go through the defending Eastern Conference champs if they were going to take it all. James had nothing but high praise for the Celtics saying that they’re move to bring Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to Boston inspired him to follow suit.

“It’s a great team,” James said of Boston in the on-court celebration. “Like I said, I got the utmost respect for that team. They’re the reason why all three of us came together, is because of what they did, that blueprint they had in ’08 when they all came together. So it’s a great team win and get ready for our next opponent.”

With Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers on early vacation the Heat stand as good a chance as any team remaining of taking it all.
