Lenny Kravitz dials up the sexy on the cover of Uptown Magazine.  The world’s sexiest dad rocks out in a series of gritty black and white photos on the streets of New York City.  His new album “Black And White America” drops August 30th.  September issue of Uptown Magazine will be on newsstands in late August.

It’s the best of both worlds for Zoe Saldana, as she land two covers this month–Ebony and Latina Magazine.   The beautiful Blatina actress confesses that after filming Avatar she was emotionally overwhelmed, but thanks to her support system of family, friends and boyfriend Keith Britton, she’s learning to appreciate the small joys in life. Though the actress herself has claimed that she has no specific career plan, and simply takes roles that interest her, without giving much thought to an overall picture or direction, there is ample evidence to the contrary.

From a small role in the angst-ridden drama, The Brave One, starring Jodie Foster, and another part alongside Catherine Zeta- Jones in No Reservations – both released in 2007, when Zoe was a senior in high school; to her role as Angel Salvadore in this year’s mega-budgeted, high-profile summer blockbuster X-Men: First Class, and her explosive starring turn in the yet-to-be released indie drama Yelling To The Sky, she is as unpredictable as she is beautiful.

On the horizon, Zoe is attached to co-star in the reboot of the Mad Max franchise alongside revered thespians Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and others. That project is currently in development.

On the smaller screen, she’s also currently starring as Pearl on the hit Showtime network drama, “Californication,” which recently announced the addition of Meagan Good and RZA to its cast for next season.

Besides cinema, Zoe balances her other love, music, with a blossoming film and TV career, as lead singer of the rock band Elevator Fight – perhaps influenced by her father, who, by the way, is now pursuing an acting career of his own.

Ms Kravitz has also expressed interest in one day stepping behind the camera and directing films as well.

And centered in the midst of all these opportunities available to her, growing up with celebrity parents (Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet), she still manages to stay grounded and connected to friends and family, mostly avoiding the Hollywood lifestyle many of her contemporaries opt to partake in.

With all the recent conversation wondering who the next generation of stars and starlets are, with so few of African descent, 22-year-old Zoe Kravitz is certainly one to watch in the coming years.

In his early days as an aspiring rock star, Teena Marie took him under her wing and gave him a place to live.  She also took him to her recording sessions and to concerts.

“She nurtured me and helped me to become who I am,” Kravitz said. “I never really talked much about it in depth, but I would not be here. She changed my life not only as an artist but as a person who truly loved me for who I was.”

In 1994, Lenny appeared on Teena’s independently released album, Passion Play, singing on the song “Main Squeeze.”

50 Cent, Akon and Lenny Kravitz are all confirmed to have contributed to the album.  Akon is featured on the song “Hold My Hand,” which was originally intended to be on Akon’s 2008 album Freedom and leaked that same year.  Lenny Kravitz is featured on the song “(I Can’t Make It) Another Day,” a song which leaked earlier this year and is an early version of “Storm,” a song Kravitz released on his 2004 album Baptism (Ed. Note: A song which also had a bananas Just Blaze remix with a Jay-Z verse).  And finally, 50 is featured on a song called “Monster,” a snippet of which leaked online this week but disappeared before we could even get a chance to listen.

Artists Mos Def and Lenny Kravitz will perform at an upcoming Gulf Coast oil spill benefit concert in New Orleans on behalf of fishers and wetlands restoration efforts.

As oil spreads around the Gulf of Mexico like a black plague unleashed from BP’s Deepwater Horizon rig explosion, it’s become apparent that this will ultimately affect the lives of fish and wildlife, but also the livelihoods of fishers and hunters who worked and lived off of those waters. So concert promoters have wasted no time organizing a benefit concert to raise money for fishers and wetland restoration.

Lenny Kravitz just posted on his Twitter account a video where he addresses the leak of his collaboration with Michael Jackson that recently leaked.

Lenny Kravitz once revealed in an interview that he had done a song with Michael Jackson and that it was the most amazing recording session he’d ever participated in.  Fans of both MJ and LK have wondered what this song sounds like for awhile now, and a snippet of the song’s first verse has just leaked.

The song “Another Day” seems to use the same lyrics as Lenny’s 2004 hit single “Storm” which featured a CRAZY remix by Just Blaze and a guest verse from Jay-Z.

Lenny Kravitz has been the unmentionable especially for a rock star…been celibate for the last four years. In times where sex is just as free as in the 1970s (though with much more consequences now). Here’s a tad of his candid interview from my girl Alicia over at zimbio.com:

He was first public about his celibacy last year; now, he’s explained his decision to abstain from sex to the UK’s Telegraph. Kravitz is a Christian; he has been for a very long time. But it was only in the past several years that he challenged himself to act like one:

“It took years to get it right. To actually do it, and really try to walk the walk and not just talk it. It’s not like it’s not important – I think sex and intimacy and all that is very important. It’s just that I’m going to do it with my wife. [laughs] And not everybody else.’

I was doing my normal thing and I was with somebody, and I remember waking up in the morning thinking, “What am I doing?” It’s not that I was all over the place. It’s not, like, groupies or somebody you’d pick up on the street. I didn’t carry on like that. It was somebody that I know. But it was still, “What am I doing? And why?” And that morning I was just talking to God, as I do, and I said, “You got to help me to stop this. I just really want to stop this.” And that was the day that it changed.

But there’s more to it than that. Lenny was candid with the interviewer about his father’s constant philandering, saying that he considered himself cursed when his father claimed Lenny would do the same, eventually:

If you go and look at his history, his dad did it, he hated his dad for doing it. And then he passed the buck to me. He kind of handed that to me. And I had to wrestle with that.”

Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry will team with Lionsgate to help promote its newest film acquisition, Push.

The Lee Daniels-directed film took the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award in U.S. Dramatic Competition at last month’s Sundance Film Festival. The story follows an overweight, illiterate African-American teen in Harlem who is about to give birth to her second child when she is accepted into an alternative school.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. The moment I saw ‘Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire,’ I knew I wanted to do whatever I could to encourage other people to see this movie. The film is so raw and powerful–it split me open,” said Winfrey, who will promote the movie through her company Harpo Films. Perry will promote via his shingle, “34th Street Films.”

The cast includes newcomer Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe in the lead role, Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd and Lenny Kravitz.
