With well over a thousand votes, the first results for the 2008 Gamezine Awards are in. Your favourite PlayStation 3 game wooed you with a tragic and engaging collaboration of narrative and gameplay that resulted in one of the most memorable video games of all time.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is your winner, claiming victory in what can only be described as a landslide. The game attracted over 60% of the votes!

Solid Snake’s final mission beat out a whole host of high quality video games, including Grand Theft Auto IV, which came fourth on the table with only 4% of the votes.

Our Runner-Up is the charming LittleBigPlanet, still leading the rest of the field by a significant margin, with 17% of the votes.

Both Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and LittleBigPlanet will be entered into next week’s 2008 Gamezine Game of the Year user voting. The Xbox 360′s winners will be announced tomorrow.

The ever-popular Playstation 3 will be subject to a significant price cut and more according to a leak from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

D-Pad is holding details of the leak, citing an anonymous source who was in attendance at the London event. SCEE President David Reeves reportedly took to the stage and revealed the PlayStation 3 will have a new, more competitive price tag from March 2009 onwards, and was proceeded by a series of blockbuster announcements.

Both LittleBigPlanet and Motorstorm were shown for the PlayStation Portable – work on LittleBigPlanet PSP has apparently been underway for some four months – and footage was shown for both.

Uncharted 2 was allegedly shown for the PS3 with a short 30 second trailer announcing the return of Nathan Drake, and finally footage was shown from God of War III. Although the contents of the leak are for now merely speculation and rumour, God of War’s original designer David Jaffe recently spoke about seeing footage of Krato’s debut PS3 outing, saying that it looked like ‘a painting come to life’.

We’ve enquired with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe whether details of the leak hold any weight, and are expecting nothing beyond a refusal to comment on speculation and rumour.

Black Friday and all the holiday shopping festivities are right around the corner, so sit down and check out these got-to-get games for the Playstation 3. Most of them are out now, but be sure to double check via Amazon or GameStop:

5. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift – This is probably one of the best looking racing games on store shelves right now. The game is improved from the first one with more water, jungle and even some fire thrown in for good measure. There’s a nice collection of vehicles you’re able to ride ranging from motorcycles and ATVs to big rigs and monster trucks. If you like offroad racing and lots of mud, you can’t go wrong with this one.

4. Valkyria Chronicles – This is a tactical role playing game from Japan that it getting great ratings across the board. Even though it has a bit of a learning curve, the story is in-depth and the battle system is a unique turn-based scheme which gives the player control over individual units on the battlefield. The game is long and will keep you busy for hours. It’s well worth the $60.

3. Little Big Planet – Speaking of keeping you busy for hours, Little Big Planet seems like endless diversion. It’s a run-n-jumping game where not only do you get the levels that come with the game, but you also get to create your own and get access to the levels created by the hundreds of other players. Plus it’s one of the best looking games on the PS3.

Be sure to check out more from Quibian Salazar-Moreno’s top two picks at The Examiner!
