Trey Songz, Justin Beiber and Romeo out-shined all the rest in the 2011 BBVA NBA Celebrity Basketball Game. Rob Kardashian, Common, Michael Rapport and Nick Cannon also participated in the fun game. Magic Johnson coached the Western conference while Bill Walton coached the Eastern conference. The East pulled off the victory with a score of 54-49. Justin Beiber won MVP.

Play About Magic Johnson & Larry Bird To Hit Broadway In 2012

Magic/Bird, the story of the personal and professional relationship between NBA legends Magic Johnson and Larry Bird will hit Broadway in 2012. The play, by Oscar winner Eric Simonson, will be based on actual conversations between Johnson & Bird, who are participating in the creative process.

The producers of the popular play Lombardi, Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo, will serve as producers for Magic/Bird.

“I am fortunate to be working with great professionals such as Fran, Tony and Eric. I am looking forward to working with them to create a story for the Broadway stage about such an exciting and important time in my life,” Larry Bird said in a statement.

“I have great love and respect for Larry Bird, and am elated that our personal and professional relationship will now be exposed to an even larger audience through this dramatic production,” Magic Johnson added. “Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo have a proven record not just of creating a successful production, but in making sure the story depicted is historically correct and impactful to a wide audience, and I am looking forward to assisting and supporting this effort in any way possible.”

The play also has the support of NBA commissioner, David Stern. “The NBA is proud to support MAGIC/BIRD, highlighting their rivalry from rookies in the NBA to Olympic Dream Team as a story for all ages, and one that we expect to be great theater on the Broadway stage as it was on the basketball court.”

The Mailman, alongside his partner in crime John Stockton, made the Utah Jazz a powerhouse back in the 90’s. With the second most points scored in NBA history (Kareem Abdul-Jabar is the first), Malone showed how the Power Forward was more than just a boards and clog-the-lane position. He proved they can also be scoring machines.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward and NBA MVP LeBron James was on Dan Patrick’s radio show today, and answered some interesting questions.

Highlights of the interview are included on Patrick’s blog, on Sports Illustrated’s si.com. Included is:

Dan asked LeBron if he’s felt sorry for anyone in today’s game. “I felt sorry for the Toronto Raptors when Kobe Bryant scored 81 points,” James said.

Workers Want ‘Better Health Care’ From Magic Johnson

In a case of the pot calling the kettle black, the “face” of HIV – Magic Johnson – is being called upon by a New York union to offer better health benefits for its workers employed at a luxury condominium he owns in downtown Brooklyn.

SEIU Local 32BJ, representing over 50,000 building service workers in New York, launched a Web site Monday to protest the former NBA basketball star’s use of non-union labor at a Brooklyn condominium building owned by his investment company.

The online site NoMagicHealthCare.org calls attention to workers at One Hanson Place, which was reopened this year following renovations and offers individual condo units for up to $1 million.

Prior to One Hanson Place’s conversion, the cleaning and maintenance workers in the building were 32BJ members earning area standard wages and benefits. The dozen workers currently receive individual health care coverage and are paid the union rate of $18.94 for porters and concierges and $20.19 for handymen. But they are being asked to pay $300 per family member for coverage, a benefit unionized luxury residential building workers in the city get as part of their contract.

The protesting union members plan to follow Johnson around with picket signs during his visit to New York this week as he makes various public appearances to promote a new book.

Meanwhile, Magic participated in a TSA (“Teen Service Announcement”) as an early and passionate supporter of @15, a new teen-led social change platform underwritten by Best Buy to give teens a voice and give them opportunities to direct the company’s philanthropy through the newly-created @15 Fund.

“There were all sorts of chances and times that I could have gotten into trouble, but instead of turning right, I turned left,” Johnson says in his online TSA. “You should dream high, because I’m a big believer that if you don’t dream it, you can’t become it. Life passes you by so fast. So, enjoy the moment. Enjoy the time.”

In addition to serving as the chairman and chief executive officer of Magic Johnson Enterprises (MJE), Johnson is currently vice president and part owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. A version of the @15 TSA will begin airing during Lakers games within the next month.
