Beyoncé Was Not Offered $100 Million X-Factor Contract

The rumor seemed ridiculous when it first surfaced, but Simon Cowell has now officially confirmed that Beyoncé was never offered a contract valued at $100 million to join him as a judge on FOX’s The X Factor. Speaking with Extra, Cowell dismissed the speculation, explaining, “No, I have no idea where this rumor came from. I read it online that I had offered her $100 million/year. It’s complete nonsense. The budget of the show is $100 million. No one’s gonna pay $100 million/year for someone.”

Those hoping for another high profile diva – Mariah Carey – becoming a judge can give up on that hope, too. Cowell added: “Just to put it out there, she will not be on the list. I adore her, I would love her, but you can’t expect someone who’s just had two kids, who’s got a record career, to make the kind of commitment we would need on this show.”

The moment people found out Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger were fired from their judging duties on the American version of The X Factor, speculation began about who was going to take their spots. Nicki Minaj and Kelly Rowland’s names were tossed around. But one name had the internet going nuts. Mariah Carey was said to have been taking a seat at the judging table, however, Nick Cannon believes his wife is too legendary to do such a thing.

Cannon gave a quote to EW, saying:

“Like Nicole Scherzinger, my wife is not a fan of judging people. Nicole actually did say that she is used to performing, and the judging thing is not really natural for her. I really think that a lot of entertainers feel that way and I think these shows are really good shows, but when you get someone of status, or just big-time, career-wise, to do these shows, I personally think it’s a step down.”

“Why would would my wife want to be on a show like that? For somebody who has a legendary career, I don’t know why they would do that.”

Mariah Carey has hit legendary status. She does have more number ones than any artist except The Beatles. On the other hand, Mariah’s last few albums haven’t performed as well as others. So being in everyone’s homes on a constant basis might boost sagging sales. Would you watch The X Factor if Mariah Carey became a judge on the show?

Mariah Carey was rumored to be a part of season one, but that never happened. And Kelly Rowland was previously a judge on the U.K. edition of “The X Factor.”

Comedienne and actress Chelsea Handler is finally opening up about her brief romance with 50 Cent. Although the pair denied their relationship while it was in progress, Handler went on the Howard Stern Show and told the shock jock she broke up with him because one of his ex-girlfriends was coming on her late night talk show. She says she called 50 “the worst thing you can call a black person, just short of the N-word.” Chelsea then went on to blast Mariah Carey. She feels that Carey is worse than Elizabeth Taylor and doesn’t know what planet Mariah Carey lives on.

Mariah Carey and hubby Nick Cannon hit the red carpet for the 2012 BET Honors held at the Warner Theater on Saturday January 14th in Washington, D.C.

Cannon, who had recently been hospitalized for mild kidney failure appeared fully recovered. The actor and comedian tweeted from the awards and thanked his fans for their support.

“Tonight in DC with my wife and kids at the BET HONORS was one of the most amazing and inspirational times of my life!,” he wrote on this Twitter account. “I really must say I am completely humbled by the outpour of support, love and prayers that came my way during my recovery. I love you all! My wife @MariahCarey has been my hero through this whole process. Definition of an Angel!”

Yesterday, Mariah Carey asked for our prayers after husband Nick Cannon suffered from “mild kidney failure” in Aspen. The “America’s Got Talent” host is in good spirits as he was transferred to a LA hospital today. He tweeted:

“Currently being transfered to a hospital in LA. Thank you all for all your love, prayers and concern. You know me… I will be a’ight.”

Nick Cannon was rushed to the hospital after he suffered mild kidney failure in Aspen! Wife, Mariah Carey took to Twitter to ask everyone for their prayers. She released this message via her website:

This is us in the hospital – role reversal; Last year it was me attached to the machines (after having dembabies) and Nick was there with me through it, and now here we are. We’re trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts because this is very painful. They tried to kick me out of the hospital but here I am pon de bed with Mr. C.

We’re doing OK but we’re “straaaaaanded in Aspen”. #DramaticDivaPlace (I know, we could be in a lot worse places) but the truth is as long as we’re together, we’re OK. I’m not trying to make light out of the situation because it’s a serious moment that’s very tough on all of us so please keep us and our family in your prayers. LYM.

The legendary Debbie Allen stopped by Wendy Williams this past Friday to share some scoop on some of her celebrity friends. The multi-talented actress/dancer/director/producer had some words of wisdom for Fantasia Barrino. When asked how the troubled R&B singer can get her career and reputation back on track, Allen offered the following advice:

“I wish she would step away from all the people around her so she can hear her own voice. She has a gift from God–God would help tell her where to go. She’s got too many leeches around her.”

Allen also revealed her close relationship with Mariah Carey. Allen has directed and produced two of Mariah’s world concert tours, and was present when Mariah gave birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe earlier this year. On the subject of Mariah and Nick Cannon Allen said:

“They are such a beautiful family. Nick Cannon is the best thing that’s happened to her–they are the real deal.”

A group of The Urban Daily writers have been in a heavy discussion today. What and who is the definition of an icon? Webster’s Dictionary defines icon as a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something. Because that definition is a bit broad, they narrowed the topic down to who was the most iconic female artist of the 90s. Needless to say, the first name thrown out was Whitney Houston’s. Naturally, Whitney was pitted against Mariah Carey. Both have made history and been celebrated for their vocal talents. On the other hand, Houston and Carey have suffered public embarrassment because of their behavior. The icon conversation ended in a stalemate in the office. So I (@JaySpeakEasy) suggested to let our readers decide who’s career was more iconic. Whitney or Mariah?

Whitney Houston debuted in 1985 on The Merv Griffin Show. Her mentor, Clive Davis, introduced her by saying, “Either you’ve got it or you don’t. She’s got it!” With her rousing rendition of the Broadway hit, “Home,” Houston stole hearts and began building anticipation for her first album. Davis fashioned her more as a sweet faced pop princess than the beautiful around-the-way girl from Newark, New Jersey she actually was. Despite the revamping of her image, Whitney’s voice was undeniable. She sang with soul, conviction, and power. In a retrospective article, USA Today wrote of how Houston’s entrance into the music industry is considered one of the 25 musical milestones of the last 25 years. It stated that she paved the way for Mariah Carey’s chart-topping vocal gymnastics.

Much of what USA Today said is true. Mariah’s rapid rise to stardom might have taken more time had it not been for Whitney’s church bred pipes not opened music listeners minds. However, Mariah Carey would’ve been a star regardless. With a five octave range and an abundant use of her whistle register, she was bound to dominate pop music. Mariah’s fame came because of 80s singer, Brenda K. Starr. Carey and Starr happened to be at a party where Columbia Records executive, Tommy Mottola, was. Starr passed him Carey’s demo and the rest is history. Mottola spun Carey’s public image in the same way Houston’s image was created by Clive Davis. Carey also tasted the same type of success Whitney did with the release of her eponymous debut disc. Mariah Carey yielded four number one hits.

Carey and Houston became hit making machines. The difference was Mariah Carey co-wrote all of her material and Whitney Houston always allowed Clive Davis to shepherd song choices. Around this time, Carey and Mottola’s relationship spilled into a personal love affair. The couple married in 1993. While Mariah was entering wedded bliss, Houston was reveling in being a newlywed. She married Bobby Brown in 1992. Also, Houston began acting. Her first part was in The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner. The film was a huge success. However, the soundtrack eclipsed the film with the power ballad, “I Will Always Love You.” The song netted Houston a record eight American Music Awards and three Grammys. The Bodyguard soundtrack made Houston the first woman to have three singles in Billboard’s Top 20 at the same time.

As 1997 rolled around, Mariah’s marriage was screeching to a halt. The blending of her personal and professional lives began to overtake her marriage. She wanted to add more hip-hop elements into her work and Mottola wasn’t having it. Despite them going through a divorce, Mottola was still Mariah’s boss. Once their divorce was finalized, Carey released Butterfly. She had rappers Puff Daddy, Ma$e, and Bone Thugs N Harmony make guest appearances. Butterfly was a huge success, as was all of her other efforts. Many said Mariah Carey was better than Whitney Houston because Whitney’s My Love Is Your Love album was more of a hit in the R&B community than in her regular pop demographic. The battle between the two was heightened when they recorded a duet, “When You Believe,” for The Prince Of Egypt soundtrack. However, Mariah began to see she wasn’t the best at everything when she threw her hat into the acting ring. Glitter was a disaster of epic proportions. The film was a huge flop and the soundtrack came out on September 11, 2001. Shortly after, Mariah Carey suffered a nervous breakdown.

The media covering Carey’s breakdown was a welcomed relief to Houston. Media outlets speculated on her marriage to Brown constantly. Many believed he introduced her to cocaine and was physically abusive. Whitney Houston returned to headlines when she performed at Michael Jackson’s 30th Anniversary concert and looked like a shell of her former self. The bad looks kept coming as she signed on to star in Being Bobby Brown. The effects of drugs and alcohol were evident. E!’s The Soup named her screaming, “Kiss my ass!” as the top clip of that year.

By 2005, both were trying to make a comeback. Mariah’s worked better than Whitney’s. The Emancipation Of Mimi nabbed Mariah Carey her first Grammys since her debut album. Whitney Houston’s I Look To You debuted on the Hot 100 chart at number one. It sold over 300,000 copies in its first week, but soon slid down the charts. Though neither woman has the voice they once had, they are still the voices of generations. But which one’s voice and career is the definition of iconic?

In June of this year Amerie became the latest artist to become romantically involved with their manager or producer. The “Why Don’t We Fall In Love” singer wed her manager Lenny Nicholson joining a sorority that includes members like Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey, just to name a few. If that list of names gives you pause there may be good reason.

Do relationships formed between artists and management or producers ever last?! Let’s take a stroll back and revisit former artist and manager/producer relationships.

1.) Mariah Carey tried love with manager Tommy Mottola in 1993 when she was with Sony and Tommy worked with Mariah on her successful album Music Box. Music Box has sold over 32 million album worldwide, such great success together! However, Tommy and Mariah eventually divorced in 1997.

2.) Nivea and The Dream, these two lovebirds worked together on two of her albums Complicated and Animalistic. The latter was only released in Japan. The two fell in love and had three kids, but were divorced in 2007.

3.) The Dream and Christina Milian started to develop content for her fourth album Elope in 2009 where Christina signed under Radio Killa Records. Unfortunately, Elope has never been released and we’re still waiting on that fourth album. Married in 2009 and divorced in 2010 they did not hit the two year mark at least! The Dream has a thing for singers, first Nivea and then it was Christina. Nivea may have gotten the better end of this deal because she actually had released album from The Dream– Christina has none. What singer can we guess will be next for The Dream? (Rihanna?)

4.) Andre Lyon (Dre of Cool & Dre) and Christina Milian were an item before Christina tied the knot with The Dream. Nick Cannon and Christina Milian had just broken up and Christina was working on her third studio album in 2006, So Amazing. Cool and Dre were able to produce 10 out of the 11 tracks which meant lots of personal time for Christina and Dre to fall in love. They were a photogenic couple that only lasted until February of 2009.

4.) Latoya Jackson (yes she does exist) married manager Jack Gordon in 1989 and the marriage wasn’t sweet. He seemingly kidnapped her from her family and that ‘marriage’ finally ended sometime in 1997. Jack managed her poorly and is said to be the reason why her fame declined in the late 80s and early 90s. For example, Jack was the reason why she did those psychic reading commercials.

5.) Tina and Ike Turner had one bad time as a couple and we are always reminded of that in the film What’s Love Go to Do With It. Ike was physically abusive and took complete control of her career and life until Tina had her epiphany and said ‘no more.’

6.) Janet Jackson & Jermaine Dupri‘s relationship came as a surprise to many. Janet fell in love with J.D in 2000 or 2001 (no one knows exactly when they got together) and broke up in 2009 after a nine year relationship. J.D worked on a few of Janet’s albums producing and writing, but it was not enough to keep them together.

This was not the first time Janet mixed business and pleasure. Ms. Jackson had a secret marriage to Rene Elizondo back in 1991 but separated in 1999. Rene wrote songs for albums such as Rhythm Nation 1814 and Velvet Rope. Rene also directed the video for “That’s The Way Love Goes,” “Together Again” and “Again.”

7.) Puff Daddy (or Diddy, if you insist) and Jennifer Lopez had a romantic relationship starting in 1999 after working on a few of her albums. J-Lo and Puffy worked together on her album On The 6, J Lo and J Lo: The Remixes. While the two didn’t get married they had a high profile relationship that ended in February 2001.

J-Lo then decided to marry her back-up dancer Chris Judd in 2001. Why date your back-up dancer when you were with Puff? This relationship was a downgrade that lasted a whole nine months.

8.) Swizz Beatz and Mashonda had a very long marriage until a certain singer came along (Alicia Keys). Swizz produced Mashonda’s debut album January Joy back in 2005 that was only released in Japan. Mashonda was also featured on a few of Swizz’s projects such as “Get No Better” and “Bellybutton” by Cassidy and “Love Is Blind” and “Gotta Man” for Eve. Wedding bells rang in 2004 and officially stopped ringing in 2010.

Not that things will necessarily end poorly with Amerie and her new love Lenny Nicholson but it’s very much in the air. We can either get great work for the next album or a whole lot of nothing and babies. (I Love You A!) Good luck on this journey!

Mariah Carey has been on hiatus since giving birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe on April 30. She was spotted heading home in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon. She didn’t look bad at all, sporting a tee, black hoodie and big sunglasses to cover those eyes. Mariah can’t be getting much sleep with twins at home.

Mariah Carey is still in the hospital nursing her premature twins Moroccan and Monroe; a nurse suggested she drink half a Guinness Stout to hasten the production of her breast milk which turned into a ploy to get photo’s of the celebrity twins. A social worker accused Mariah of negligence after someone had ratted her out and came to the hospital hoping to snap a picture of Roc and Roe but no photos were allowed!

Nick Cannon hit up Lopez Tonight where he explained the reasons for naming his son and daughter, Moroccan and Monroe(which I love). Nick explains that Mariah has always loved the name Monroe because of her adoration for Marilyn Monroe and Moroccan comes from the room in their house that he proposed to her in! Nick goes on to say how he almost fainted three times and that Mariah “was cussing in high octaves,” during child birth.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon welcomed the arrival of their newborn twins, a boy and a girl, on Saturday, April 30th, however the pair has yet to announce their names. However, Mommy Mariah revealed the twins’ first initial yesterday on Twitter.

“So we r bout 2 reveal the actual names and b4 we tell em 2 our friends etc.,” Mariah tweeted. “I had 2 C if any of the #lambily wanted 2 guess!!!”

The guessing game went on for awhile as Mariah’s fans, whom she calls lambs, responded with their guesses.

“The game continues!!!! This crew is a lil slow..lil slow…! Coming up next-the initials…I love the #lambily!!!!” she tweeted.

Eventually, Mariah gave her “lambs” a helpful hint: “Both begin w/M’s!!!! :)”

UPDATE: Mariah has officially announced the names of the twins: Monroe Cannon & Moroccan Scott Cannon.

Their son is named Moroccan Scott Cannon, with the nickname “Roc”. Scott is Nick’s middle name, as well as his grandmother’s maiden name.

The top tier of Mariah’s New York City apartment is called the Moroccan Room, because of the Moroccan-inspired decor. It’s also the place where Nick proposed to his wife, overlooking Manhattan!

Their daughter’s name is Monroe Cannon. Mariah’s rep says she does not have a middle name because Mariah herself does not have one. Monroe was named after Marilyn Monroe, who has been an inspiration to Mariah her whole life.
