Fourteen years after their monster duet, “The Boy Is Mine,” Brandy and Monica link back up to deliver “It All Belongs To Me.” The track hit radio last night. It’s been nearly 14 years since “The Boy is Mine,” Brandy and Monica’s R&B teen catfight cut ruled airwaves. But the two apparently are back at it again.

Over the weekend Monica, who’s readying her next album New Life, tweeted out some pictures of herself and buddy Brandy in the studio together along with producer Rico Love (Beyoncé, Usher, Mary J. Blige). “We have Both Been Blessed Beyond Measure,” Monica writes in the tweet. “14 years later. Love @4everBrandy.”

Love seems ecstatic of the collab as well. “My dreams come true on a daily basis,” he tweeted during that same period—attaching a shot of him with the ladies. “God is the greatest!! @MonicaBrown, @4everBrandy.”

Next to saying the vows, watching a couple have their first dance is the most moving part of a wedding. That’s the moment when nobody in the world matters except your new spouse. As a guest, you get to see how deep the love between the couple is simply by the way they stare into each other’s eyes during their first dance. Since the summer weding season is winding down, The Urban Daily put together a list of the top wedding songs in no particular order.

Kenny Lattimore – “For You”
If you’ve to a wedding and haven’t heard this song, question the DJ’s abilities. “For You” is enveloped in romance and pure emotion. We find a man not afraid to express the love he has for his queen. Don’t let the groom start whispering the lyrics to his bride as the song plays. The reception might have to be cut short, if you catch what I’m throwing at you.

Luther Vandross – “Here And Now”
With Luther as R&B’s perennial lothario, there is no way this could exist without this song. The lyrics to “Here an Now” practically read like vows themselves. “Here and now/I promise to love faithfully /You’re all I need” Enough said.

Monica – “Angel of Mine”
This Georgia songbird had one of her biggest hts with the Rodney Jerkins produced hit. Though many dismiss the notion of love at first site, Monica was singing about having an instant attraction to a person’s spirit. A spiritual connection before a physical one, that’s rare these days.

Prince – “Adore”
Prince’s duality when it comes to music is amazing. One minute he’s tricking with a darling named Nikki and in another moment he’s so deep in love he can’t find the words to express it. “Adore ” is one of the most sizzling and devoted songs The Purple One has ever recorded. When a man tells you, “You can burn up my clothes, smash up my ride.” That’s way more than love. No one captures those moments in song better than Prince.

Sade – “No Ordinary Love”
Sade’s first single from her fourth album has been a wedding staple since its release in 1992. Though the production is seductive, the words are honest. She sings of giving her man all she’s got, despite the fact he has made her cry. Sade just couldn’t help falling in love and most newlyweds identify with those emotions.

Anita Baker – “Sweet Love”
Anita Baker is the queen of love songs. The only other person to match her catalog of love tracks is Luther Vandross. With “Sweet Love,” Anita steps into the role of a woman unshamed to say how much she loves her man. “Sweet Love” illustrates what a true marriage is-a partnership based on love and commitment.

Michael Jackson – “Lady In My Life”
No matter how you look at it, this song is beautiful. Michael Jackson goes in about the woman he longs to spend the rest of his life with. The song begins with sweet whispers of love and mounts in intensity until MJ is hollering, ” I love you. I love you. I need you. I want you, Babe!” what more needs to be said? “I do.”

K-Ci and JoJo – “All My Life”
If you’ve been to a wedding after 1998, you are probably sick of this song as a wedding song. Although, it’s the perfect soundtrack for a wedding, hearing it at yours, your cousin’s, your best friend’s, your uncle’s, and everybody else you know’s wedding is a bit much. Even though we get sick of it when we have to go to more than one wedding in a month, we love the sentiments behind the track. That’s pure unadulterated love codensed into a five minute song.

Eric Benet and Tamia – “Spend My Life With You”
This love song is about being comfortable in your relationship. “Spend My Life With You” celebrates simple things like waking up next to each other and looking into each other’s eyes. Eric Benet and Tamia’s duet has slid out of speakers at weddings and is sure to continue to be a wedding ballad for the rest of all time.

Lionel Richie and Diana Ross – “Endless Love”
You can’t bring up weddings and love without talking about the epic Lionel Richie and Diana Ross cut. the sweeping strings and saccharine words make you wish you had that type of love. If you have that kind of love, “Endless Love” makes you want to hold on to it forever.

Celebrities often accuse the media of instigating drama. While some dismiss any rumored fall outs with other stars, many fall victim to the speculation. A prime example would be teen pop tarts, Brandy and Monica. Last year, Monica was promoting her comeback effort, Still Standing. The Georgia songbird talked about squashing her beef with former rival, Brandy, in several interviews. At the height of their feud, neither singer commented on it. We’ve come to find Monica felt as if their feud was conjured up by media and industry personnel to drum up sales for the two R&B divas’ respective albums. “We started at a time when there weren’t a lot of us and, of course, they made us not like each other,” Monica lamented, “We were young enough to not understand that it was just for media sensationalism all together.” Manufactured or not, the ploy worked. Not only did their collaborative single, “The Boy Is Mine,” reach number one on the Hot 100, it stayed there for thirteen weeks. As both women are working on fresh material, The Urban Daily and I (@JaySpeakEasy) wanted to pose a question to our readers. Who was the definitive victor in their so-called feud?

Brandy and Monica had more in common than the public was aware of. Both were born in the south, Monica in Atlanta and Brandy in McComb, Mississippi. Also, their vocal abilities were honed in the church. Each hit the scene in their early teens and were painted as sweet fresh faced teen queens. Monica had a little more sass than Brandy. Then again, Monica’s material on her debut disc, Miss Thang, was more adult than Brandy’s love soaked debut.

The differences arise when you look at their journeys with fame. Monica started out doing talent shows and was discovered by producer, Dallas Austin. Brandy got her start acting on the short lived sitcom, Thea. Monica’s acting career was limited to a few guest parts on 90s sitcoms and the disastrous MTV movie, Love Song. Needless to say, Brandy took the cake in that department with movie roles and a six year run as the title character in Moesha.

While both rode the crest of success into the late 90s, the career hardships came in the early 2000s. Moesha was suddenly canceled in 2001. At the same time, Monica was dealing with the suicide of her then boyfriend, Jarvis Weems. Jarvis shot himself in front of the Atlanta native in a cemetery as they sat in front of his brother’s tombstone. As Monica withdrew from the public eye, Brandy was promoting her third disc, Full Moon.
In the midst of promotion, Brandy announced she was pregnant and married. It was later revealed her marriage was never legal. Professionally, Brandy wasn’t faring any better. Full Moon wasn’t the hit it was expected to be which led Brandy to focus on motherhood. However, Monica’s third album was a hit driven by the Missy Elliott produced single, “So Gone.” As Monica’s star began fading again, Brandy made headlines after being involved in a car accident, which killed a woman. The victim’s family filed three wrongful death suits against the singer. The cases have been settled out of court and the stress of the ordeal caused Brandy to become a recluse until her fifth album, Human, was finished.

For a period, both divas had dropped out of the spotlight to raise families. Both slipped back onto fans’ radar with reality shows and done with the long simmering beef. Having just entered their thirties, a genuine friendship has developed between the two. Brandy has stated how Monica’s comeback success has given her hope fans will embrace her new project. Coming full circle, the two plan to record another duet. Will they battle for another man’s heart or support each other as friends on the track? We’ll have to wait and see. Newlywed R&B star Monica has found herself in the middle of a family feud. The singer recently collaborated with Rick Ross, Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim for the single, “Anything.” The song samples David Porter’s “I’m Afraid the Masquerade Is Over” used for the Notorious B.I.G’s classic “Who Shot Ya?” and the Queen Bee cribs a few lines from the Biggie hit in her verse. (Listen below)

According to Monica’s twitter account Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace has stopped the single from being released because Lil’ Kim appears on the song. As custodian of Biggie’s estate Ms. Wallace approves any samples of her late son’s music.

“I am just finding out what has happened to my single and myself & Missy are beyond hurt that @LilKim was removed. She’s our friend, a legend,” Monica wrote. “Lil Kim will get the respect she deserves at all cost. The clearance was revoked and I’m fighting to get it reinstated by the Biggie Estate.”

Ms. Wallace and Lil Kim have been engaged in a very public feud over the past few years, most recently over Kim’s portrayal in the biopic Notorious. Based on Monica’s tweets, the song would not be cleared unless Lil Kim’s vocals were removed.

Despite her displeasure, Monica maintained her respect for Ms. Wallace and did not take sides, insisting that she “respects all parties involved” and hopes to have the song reinstated with Lil Kim featured.

Lil Kim has taken the high road thus far simply writing, “I want ya’ll to know that Missy Elliot and Monica Brown have been going hard a s mothaf*cka for this situation. I love them so much! We are planning something even BIGGER for you guys.”

Monica and Shannon Brown wed last night in a second ceremony in Vibena. The purple and blue themed wedding featured hundreds of guests unlike his and her’s previous private ceremony. “Monica reportedly wore a Stephan Roland gown during the 30-minute ceremony that included guests such as Lala and Carmelo Anthony, as well as Shannon’s teammates Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher, KANDI, Jermaine Dupri, radio personality Frank Ski, Khloe Kardashian, Ashanti, Nelly, Cee-lo Green, Nene Leakes and Toya & Memphitz. Ciara, Trina and Ludacris’ girlfriend Eudoxie served as Bridesmaids. Monica’s two sons, 6-year-old Rodney Jr. and 3-year-old Romelo, as well as Shannon’s son arrived to ceremony by horse and carriage. The reception had a three-course meal with hydrangea and roses as the centerpieces. After the formalities, the couple kept it real when they had hamburgers from Fatburger grilled under a tent.”

Rumors have been swirling since the engagement and recently an NBA official confirmed the official union of the two. The ceremony took place November 22, 2010 in Los Angeles.

“A friend of Shannon Brown’s says he is relieved that the news is out because he respects his wife and he has been wearing his wedding band recently. The friend said Shannon and Monica plan to wed officially in front of family and friends (again) in Los Angeles in June.”

As the days of 2010 wine down I reflect on the songs that made me dance, cry, nod, and those that made the hairs rise on the back of my neck. These songs were the most played on my I-Pod and the highest rated. So let’s get this started…

10.Waka Flocka Flame – Hard In the Paint

Waka Flocka has been the subject of scrutiny all year for his “educational woes,” weird name and ridiculous rants, non-the-less he released a good album. No one really knows what “Hard In The Paint” means but I know it gets the whole club live!

9.Dirty Money- Hello Good Morning

Diddy knows how to deliver a hit, even if Dirty Money aren’t together for much longer “Hello Good Morning” was a summer anthem.

8.Usher- OMG

As much as I despise the pop/ R&b movement, I love Usher’s “OMG.” The beat is something special and it goes extra hard in the club. It definitely made me want to dance.

7.Jahiem- Finding My Way Back

Jahiem was missing off the radar for awhile, but don’t fear mid-aged women, he made a come-back with my number 7 favorite song of the year.

6. Usher ft. Nicki Minaj-Lil’ Freak

I’m not a big fan of Usher’s latest work but Lil’ Freak was a certified club- banger. I couldn’t even touch the dance floor if this song wasn’t played!

5. Nicki Minaj- Roman’s Revenge

Nicki Minaj was on everything this year and released her debut album which debuted at #2 against Kanye West. Roman’s Revenge features rap genius Eminem. Em may be on the track but he doesn’t destroy Nicki like he did Jay-Z on “Renegades.” Nicki Minaj ripped this song and every time I listen to it I get even hyper.

As a female, Nicki Minaj definitely represented hard for us! Nicki held her own against the two best rappers out (in my opinion). “Monster” was one of Kanye West’s “Good Friday” releases and sparked a world of controversy. Rick Ross was on the track too but his few lines sucked so much that we don’t even recognize him being featured.

3.Chris Brown- No Bllsh*t

Off the “Fan Of A Fan” mixtape, No Bullsh*t besides “Too Freaky” was the song that sent my libido into a whirlwind. Maybe it was the soft-porn like video or soft vocals, no matter what it was- it was enchanting to my ears and eyes.

2. Rihanna- Rude Boy

I was never that great of a Rihanna fan until this year. The first time I heard “Rude Boy” I was hooked. The lyrics were seductive and racy. Rihanna looked HOT in the video and I was hypnotized by her hip movement. I couldn’t wait to get to the club and bust a wine!

1.Drake- Find Your Love

Who would of thought the teen from Degrassi who rolled in a wheelchair before a Bentley would top off my list. The beat to “Find Your Love,” produced by Kanye West was the ULTIMATE smash for me. Being so heavily influence by R&B the mixture of both Drake’s flow and song was perfect! I love Drake’s voice and loved his album for showcasing it more than most other people expected or appreciated.

Watch The Essence Music Festival Tonight On TV One!

Each year Essence Magazine sponsors the Essence Music Festival that sets African-American music center stage for all the world to see. This year it’s back with performances from Trey Songz, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Monica, Alicia Keys and many more our favorites!

Janet Jackson headlined this years festivities, having commanded a 72,000+ audience, shattering last years record set by Beyonce. The Louisiana Super Dome in New Orleans was packed from stage to seat, all to watch Janet’s heart-thumping two- hour performance.

If tuning in to see Miss Jackson (cause we’re nasty) isn’t reason enough, you can catch live performances from Chrisette Michele, Earth Wind & Fire, Keri Hilson, Joe, Estelle and Dougie Fresh. There was a waiting list for the tickets but you can have front row seats this Sunday when TV One airs the show.

Jermaine Dupri spoke with Hot 107.9 in Atlanta about how he discovered his artist Dondria and what made her special enough to work with.

“Somebody told me to listen to her on Youtube but I didn’t know what the interest was,” he told HotSpotAtl.com. “But when I checked out her attitude and demeanor to go along with the vocals I thought it was raw talent. We went through a two-year process of me getting everybody to understand the vision.”

He also explains what’s going on with his So So Def label and how difficult it is to break new artists on a major label in 2010.

Curtis Mayfield’s “Impressions” On Today’s Music

Today marks the 68th anniversary of the birth of one of black music’s greatest songwriters, Curtis Mayfield.

His work with his group The Impressions, as well as his solo work continues to live on in today’s music through sampling. Having been sampled by artists ranging from Mary J Blige to Kanye West, his music has been exposed to an entire new generation of listeners!

Here are a few of our favorite Curtis Mayfield-sampling songs!

Kanye West “Touch The Sky”

Built off of a generous loop of Curtis’ classic 1970 single “Move On Up” from his debut solo album, Curtis (hello 50 Cent), Kanye created one of his most popular singles which was accompanied by a hilarious video!

Mary J. Blige “Be Happy”

The lead single from Mary J Blige’s second album, My Life, samples Curtis’ “You’re So Good To Me” from 1979′s Heartbeat album.

Ice-T “I’m Your Pusher”

Ice-T’s first taste of mainstream success came with the release of his second album, 1988′s Power, which featured the hit single “I’m Your Pusher.” The song was a reworking of Curtis Mayfield’s classic “Pusherman” from his essential soundtrack to the 1972 blaxploitation film Superfly. Ice-T would hook up with Curtis a few years later to record a song for the soundtrack of the 1990 sequel, Return Of Superfly.

Beyoncé “Resentment”

Beyoncé sampled Curtis’ guitar instrumental “Think” from the soundtrack of Superfly for this song from her 2006 B’Day album.

Monica “A Dozen Roses” / Edgar Allen Floe “The Righteous Way To Go”

In 2006, Monica’s “A Dozen Roses” hit the radio airwaves with a sample from Curtis’ 1970 ballad “The Makings Of You.” A few years earlier, hip-hop producer 9th Wonder flipped the same song for Edgar Allen Floe’s “The Righteous Way To Go” giving it a totally different feel than the Monica song.
