According to Entertainment Weekly, the network hopes to close the deals with Cee Lo and Levine by the end of the week.

“The Voice” will be based on the Dutch show “The Voice of Holland” where judges must make their decisions solely on the contestant’s voice.  The judges will not be able to see contestants as they audition.

During a recent interview with NBC news anchor Matt Lauer George, former president George W. Bush admits that, more than anything else, it’s a remark by Kanye West that ranks as one of the worst moments of his presidency, according to excerpts of the interview released on Tuesday night.

The interview, which airs on Monday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, touches on comments made by the Chicago rapper during a 2005 live NBC telethon to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims in which Kanye went off script to famously say that “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people.”

MATT LAUER: About a week after the storm hit NBC aired a telethon asking for help for the victims of Katrina. We had celebrities coming in to ask for money. And I remember it vividly because I hosted it. And at one part of the evening I introduced Kanye West. Were you watching?
PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH: Nope.

MATT LAUER: You remember what he said?

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH: Yes, I do. He called me a racist.

MATT LAUER: Well, what he said, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH: That’s — “he’s a racist.” And I didn’t appreciate it then. I don’t appreciate it now. It’s one thing to say, “I don’t appreciate the way he’s handled his business.” It’s another thing to say, “This man’s a racist.” I resent it, it’s not true, and it was one of the most disgusting moments in my Presidency.

MATT LAUER: This from the book. “Five years later I can barely write those words without feeling disgust.” You go on. “I faced a lot of criticism as President. I didn’t like hearing people claim that I lied about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction or cut taxes to benefit the rich. But the suggestion that I was racist because of the response to Katrina represented an all time low.”

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH: Yeah. I still feel that way as you read those words. I felt ‘em when I heard ‘em, felt ‘em when I wrote ‘em and I felt ‘em when I’m listening to ‘em.

MATT LAUER: You say you told Laura at the time it was the worst moment of your Presidency?

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH: Yes. My record was strong I felt when it came to race relations and giving people a chance. And– it was a disgusting moment.

Kanye West’s comment — which was made, ironically, on NBC during a telethon fundraiser for victims of Hurricane Katrina – quickly became an indelible moment of Bush’s second term. And while it was obviously rare and off-putting for a rap star to insist that the president didn’t care about black people, it’s also somewhat unexpected that that would be Bush’s personal, political nadir.

After accidentally igniting a national debate with a simple photo posted to his Twitter account, ?uestlove has come to the defense of the chef responsible for the controversial Black History Month menu in the cafeteria at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in NYC.

On Saturday, The Roots drummer and musical director for NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” posted the following statement regarding what he calls “Soulfoodgate.”

in the past 3 days a twitpic went from being a funny observation to a national issue. every blogger and his mom weighed in on the issue. in the beginning it seemed harmless enough. but with nbc office employees weighing their two cents in without all the facts and the little bit of hate mail i been getting from uninformed individuals i decided to put this baby to bed with a final statement.

when i saw the sign i have to admit….i was DYING. like literally LMAO!!! maybe it was juxtaposition of the words: collard & history, jalapeno & honor, fried, black and nbc?? maybe it was the acculturative stress of having 28 days for this food that represents you but come march…pot roast for life kid!

whatever the case, I found this funny and when I find something funny I like to let the world in on the joke (twitpic anyone??). in NO way did i ever think that this was some cruel insensitive joke on behalf of jeff zucker and his comrades at nbc (the cafeteria isn’t even owned or operated by nbc).

The problem is..in the blogosphere, things can take on a life of their own. “online journalists”, site commenters, even comedians (see wanda sykes on leno) have now taken my snapshot of leslie’s missionary zeal and retooled it for their own racialized – “let’s bash nbc for their conan sins” – flogging mission. my twitpic was just me poking fun, a Questlove still life that was clearly intended as a joke. what’s even funnier: race issues in post racial america. potluck anyone?????

Dennis Rodman will reportedly check into a rehab facility to treat his alcohol addiction after first turning down pleas from his wife and friends during a failed intervention [click here to read].

As previously reported, family and friends of Rodman, including his former Los Angeles Lakers coach, Phil Jackson, unsuccessfully reached out to the star, who had refused to admit himself to an inpatient facility [click here to read]. The recent “Celebrity Apprentice” participant said he wanted instead attend the show’s live season finale this weekend.

But according to E! Online, the former NBA star has now agreed to enter an outpatient program where he’ll regularly see a counselor.

Says his rep, “He will be in New York City for the finale on Sunday.”

While ABC, NBC and CBS are giving up precious sweeps month real estate for the president’s press conference marking his first 100 days, Fox announced Monday that it will instead stick to its regular programming – an episode of “Lie to Me.”

The network, known for its conservative news slant, is the lone broadcast channel that turned down President Obama’s request for the time.

Tomorrow night’s speech will be the third prime time news conference in Obama’s 100-day presidency. It also marks the first time a broadcast network has refused his request.

Bryan Fuller worked on the first season of NBC’s hit series Heroes, before leaving for ABC’s Pushing Daisies. When that show ended, Fuller was snatched back up by NBC for Heroes. Now, Fuller has spoken to SCI FI Wire about the show and where he sees the future of the show going.

When asked what he wanted to accomplish with the new scripts, Fuller answered “I just really wanted to get everything back to a character base. I think character was shoved aside for plot. The second year with the virus was interesting, but then it got complicated and techno-babbly. With “Villains,” it started out interesting and then became about formula. When they started talking about how we were injected with our powers and it became sci-fi ghetto storytelling, I became disconnected.”

Fuller continued “Mohinder went from a noble scientist to being a mad scientist with Jeff Goldblum hair and wardrobe. Claire became so strident and unlikable because she was just whining, bitching and holding a gun. I was just concerned the wheel had been jerked so sharply in the wrong direction with what had worked about the first season, which was ordinary people with extraordinary powers. Everything ordinary about their lives went out the window, and everything was extraordinary. That was my frustration.”

While The Roots can now count on their new gig as Jimmy Fallon’s house band to pay the bills, their love for music is still as strong as ever. In a recent interview with weeklydig.com, ?uestlove touched on his work with D’Angelo, as well as the next Roots project.

What was once seen as a shelved project, D’Angelo has plans to release his follow-up to 2000′s Voodoo this year. ?uest, who has worked side by side with the R&B singer on several past projects, will also make his mark on D’Angelo’s new disc.

“The last I touched this record was in 2004, and that was when he was going all the way rock,” ?uestlove said. “However, I am to believe at least in our conversations that he did 100 percent just actually a clean slate…I’m one of the last elements to be added. Which basically means he’s at least more than halfway done, which in D’Angelo speak is a miracle.”

Settling down for “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” The Roots will still do one-off gigs on the weekends to keep their live performances fresh. Not only that, but they are reportedly already getting material together for their next album.

“We started our 11th [album], I’ll say three weeks ago, before we came over [to South Korea],” ?uestlove explained. Continuing, he added, “I assume that all our studio activity will triple now that we are in one steady place. Not to mention, we actually convinced [NBC] to build us a studio in the dressing room.”

While SNL may have some winning sketches during the 2008 Presidential elections, this Super Bowl dud played upon the 80′s classic television show MacGuyver and ran the joke into the ground. Boo.

3. NBC “Feelin’ Alright” Ad -

Hopefully NBC is “alright” with betting the farm on Heroes newest season making up for last one’s clusterfluck. But applying Joe Cocker’s groovy tunes somehow doesn’t help to tone down the campy-ness of seeing Parkman (Greg Gunberg) and Noah Bennett (Jack Coleman) do a duet.

This would’ve been funny, charming and all that… only if they hadn’t tried the same concept last year.

Ladie’s heartthrob and one of People’s “sexiest men in America” has agreed to come back to the show that launched his career: ER.

Sources close to the series tell People that ER co-creator John Wells has ordered a closed set to keep George Clooney’s appearance under wraps.

It’s not known how many episodes will feature Clooney as the show films its final season. Neither NBC nor Warner Bros. reps would comment, nor did Clooney’s publicist.

Clooney, himself, denied reports last March he was returning.

Clooney’s Dr. Doug Ross was last seen on ER in a 2000 cameo walk-through in a remote lake scene with Ross’s ex-Juliana Marguilies.

Clooney is the most famous ER alum and Wells has always wanted him to return for the show’s last season. The 15th season was extended by an extra four episodes by NBC executives last week.

NBC announced Thursday that Oscar-nominated actor Don Cheadle has signed a two-year production deal with parent company Universal Media Studios.

Under the pact, revealed during NBC’s portion of the winter Television Critics Assn. press tour, Cheadle’s Crescendo Prods. will develop series projects for the studio.

Founded in 2005, Crescendo recently signed a two-year feature deal with Overture Films. It has produced such films as Traitor and the documentary Darfur Now and is developing a biopic of musician Miles Davis.

Cheadle was a producer of the Oscar-winning movie Crash and is serving as an executive producer of the Starz/Lionsgate series of the same name, which is based on the film.

On the big screen, Cheadle opens today in Hotel for Dogs.

“The Wendy Williams Show,” which enjoyed a successful trial run last summer in limited markets, has been cleared in more than 70 percent of the United States for a nationally-syndicated debut in July.

Debmar-Mercury has given a firm production commitment to the talk show, which will premiere in all of the top 20 markets and 45 of the top 50. Fox, CBS, NBC, Local TV, Tribune, Lin, Cox, Raycom, Meredith and New Vision, will carry the program, which will be taped live daily in New York City.

The syndicator has also concluded a multi-year deal with All Mobile Video, which will house the show in the facility that served as the long-term home of “The Montel Williams Show.”

“Rather than commit to an untested show based on the premise of a five-minute sales tape, stations across the country have eagerly sought out ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ because they know it works extraordinarily well, based on the stellar ratings and tremendous buzz it generated last summer during an unprecedented six-week preview on Fox’s New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Detroit stations,” Debmar-Mercury Co-President Mort Marcus said.

Fox committed to “The Wendy Williams Show” after seeing ratings increases in key demographics versus the May sweeps, including every key demo in New York and Los Angeles. The 30 preview episodes were spearheaded by Emmy-winning talk show veteran Rob Dauber, formerly co-executive producer of Martha and supervising producer of “Oprah Winfrey” and “Rosie O’Donnell.”

NBC and Donald Trump announced today the all-star celebrity cast for the second sensational season of “The Celebrity Apprentice” premiering on Sunday, March 1 (9-11 p.m. ET/PT).

On the first ever “Celebrity Apprentice” last season, winner Piers Morgan changed the way the game was played, winning millions for charity and setting the bar for all who follow. Now 16 new celebrities will rise to the challenge and once again it will be men versus women. The men include: Clint Black, Andrew Dice Clay, Tom Green, Scott Hamilton, Jesse James, Brian McKnight, Dennis Rodman, and Herschel Walker. Maybe, just maybe all the hate Ann Coulter’s been spewing against the Obamas and Democrats/liberals in general has finally come back to haunt her.

The Drudge Report is reporting that “the nation’s top selling conservative author has been banned from appearing on NBC,” according to insiders.

“We are just not going to have her on any more, it’s over,” a top network source explains.

But not so fast says a second source from the network who strongly denies there is any “Coulter ban.”

“Look for a re-invite, as soon as Wednesday,” said the unnamed executive.

According to Drudge, the Today show abruptly cut Coulter appearance from its broadcast this morning where she was set to promote her new book, “Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America.”

Supposedly it was the book’s theme, Coulter’s very unkind examination of liberal bias in the new era, that got her dis-invited.

“We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now,” a “Today Show” insider stated. “It’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either.”

There’s also speculation that NBC dropped the controversial author because of pressure from various watchdog groups including Media Matters for America which launched a campaign that asked, “Is NBC going to help Coulter sell this book?” The organization also claims “Guilty” includes deliberate lies:

“These falsehoods come on a wide-ranging list of subjects including her defense of the claims made against Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth during the 2004 presidential campaign; her assertion that “Fox News has never been caught promoting a fraud“; her claim that President-elect Barack Obama was referring to Gov. Sarah Palin when he said “you know, you can put lipstick on a pig; it’s still a pig”; and attacks she makes against New York Times columnist Frank Rich.”

And of course, as NewsOne reported yesterday, the book mocks Michelle Obama’s style while praising Cindy McCain’s.

Meanwhile, Monday night, Coulter was a guest on the Fox News’ Hannity and Colmes show where she criticized NBC for canceling her Today show appearance. She said the network was orchestrating a “set up to block me from other TV shows.”

New York State’s first African-American Governor, David Paterson, was not amused by a skit on Saturday Night Live poking fun at his blindness and admitted drug use.

“I can take a joke. But only 37% of disabled people are working and I’m afraid that that kind of third-grade humor certainly adds to this atmosphere,” he told the New York Daily News.  “Let’s just say I don’t think it helped,”

The skit featured “SNL” cast member Fred Armisen doing a dead-on impression of the governor in the show’s “Weekend Update.”

Jay Leno will host a new comedy/talk show on NBC five nights a week in primetime, beginning in the fall of 2009. The show will originate from Burbank, Calif., and will air Monday through Friday, 10-11 p.m./9-10 p.m. CT. The announcement was made today by Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff, Co-Chairmen, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. This show will be the first-ever entertainment program to be stripped across primetime on broadcast network television.

“As broadcast television continues to change, success demands a new paradigm,” said Jeff Zucker, President and CEO, NBC Universal. “For the past few years, we’ve been very vocal about two things: Transforming broadcast television for today’s media landscape, and keeping Jay at NBC. In this one announcement we have done both. It’s great for NBC, for our viewers, and for our advertisers.”

“Jay has played a major role in defining NBC’s brand of high-quality entertainment,” said Silverman. “The 10 o’clock hour will bring Jay a whole new audience and provide a great lead-in both for our local affiliates and for Conan O’Brien, the next great host of ‘The Tonight Show.’”

“Clearly, today’s viewers have an appetite for live, topical programming, and that’s what we’re bringing to primetime,” said Graboff. “This innovative deal plays to NBC’s strengths as the late-night leader for more than 14 years. The network will be home to three of the biggest names in TV: Jay, Conan and Jimmy.”

“This is the greatest all-star comedy lineup in the history of television,” said Rick Ludwin, Executive Vice President, Late Night and Primetime Series, NBC Entertainment. “And it happened because topical comedy is in the DNA of NBC and has been for decades.”

Leno will sign off as host of “The Tonight Show” on May 29, 2009. His new show will showcase many of the features that have made Leno America’s late-night leader for more than a dozen years. Signature elements will include his opening monologue and well-known comedy segments “Headlines,” “Jaywalking” and “Battle of the Jaywalking All-Stars.”

As previously announced, Conan O’Brien will take over “The Tonight Show” hosting duties on June 1, 2009, broadcasting from the state-of-the-art studio currently under construction on the Universal lot. O’Brien will continue an unmatched late-night legacy that includes Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, and, for the last 16 years, Jay Leno. Jimmy Fallon will assume the role of host of “Late Night” on March 2, 2009.

As everyone was distracted by the shocking news that Jay Leno is staying on at NBC, future Late Night host Jimmy Fallon quietly debuted his first new video blog on NBC.com yesterday. In the 90-second video the former SNL cast member holds off on the funny and instead shows off his his new NBC studio (used by Johnny Carson for the first 10 years of The Tonight Show) and his house band the Roots. The online opening for Fallon’s shoes is meant as a soft debut for his Late Night persona and to hopefully prevent the awkwardness Conan O’Brien experienced when he took over for David Letterman in 1993. Hopefully in tonight’s episode he’ll actually attempt to do something funny. Fallon begins March 2nd. He’s got big shoes to fill. Do you think he’s up to the job? With Leno pegged for a nightly 10:00 PM show, is the value of Conan’s 11:35 Tonight Show diminished? Will Caron Daly stay on the air — meaning NBC will be showing four hours of talk show a night? NBC is cutting Knight Rider’s season short. The revamp of the 80s hit was given an early full season pick up for a full 22 episodes, but the ratings have been falling since the show debuted. Earlier today, NBC announced their midseason schedule and I noted that Knight Rider was ending its season awfully early, on February 25th.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Season 1 of the show will cease production after episode 17. This follows the news that there will be a revamp of the series, cutting out some characters and re-focusing it more as a crime procedural.

As the Reporter notes, this is probably the beginning of the end for the series, barring a big boost in the ratings before the end of February. Meanwhile, NBC tells the Reporter they still don’t consider the show cancelled.

Variety reports that, executive producers of CW’s The Game, will write the script and executive produce the project.

The book’s author, Nick Adams, hopes the show can capitalize on how the election of Barack Obama as the country’s first African American president has changed the nation’s dialogue on race.

“From time to time, race bubbles up in the consciousness of the country and then dissipates,” said Adams. “Now, with Obama, people are talking about race a lot more. We hope to capitalize on that and not let the dialogue die down. … It seemed like a good opportunity to strike while the iron is hot.”

Making Friends will center on two guys — one African-American and one white — who become close friends, but who don’t necessarily see things the same way. Adams, a standup comic, wrote the book as a humorous look at how people dance around issues of race. In this Office spin-off, Logan is a nurse whose boyfriend has a strange injury. It’s just that that injury leads Jones’ character into the world populated by Poehler and Aziz Ansari.

Although rumors about Jones’ participation in the show have been flying for months, the Net had not confirmed her casting until now. Also for Jones, it marks a reunion with The Office exec producers Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, who are also behind the new Poehler skein.

Producers have yet to set a shoot date for the first episode, but Jones said that she is expected to report to work sometime in early 2009, but no definite date has been lined up yet. Word is that the show may be pushed to the Fall.

Quicker than the ticker inside John McCain’s chest, NBC has just cancelled My Own Worst Enemy starring Christian Slater and Alfre Woodard.

Clocking in at just four episodes, Enemy came into the season with a lot of hype, yet fell victim to mixed reviews. Ratings ultimately dealt the show the most damage with declining numbers since its premiere, even hitting a new low this past Monday which forced NBC’s hand in pulling the plug.

My Own Worst Enemy had the best lead-in with Heroes at 9pm. Although the third season of the critically-acclaimed superhero show has its own troubles with ratings, they’re still the shining gem on NBC’s overall weak schedule. It’s yet to be said whether or not the show will run another episode or not, but this should serve as a notice that numbers are that matters in the end.

The former NWA frontman is set to write and executive produce the series and Universal Media Studios is behind the untitled project in a collaborative effort with Cube’s Cube Vision company.

The studio’s chairman, Ben Silverman, had been aggressively pursuing Cube to create an action-comedy for the Peacock network.

“As we continue to expand our roster of diverse talent both on-camera and behind the camera, a guy like Ice Cube, who’s multitalented, is someone we really wanted to be in business with,” Silverman said. “He’s had an amazing career, to have gone from NWA to this.”

Although Cube is not attached to star in the project, NBC execs are keeping their finger crossed in hopes that the hip-hop star/actor/writer will make some appearances. This is not the multifaceted star’s first foray into television, Cube also executive produced Showtime’s television version of Barbershop, as well as FX’s Black, White and MTV’s animated version of Friday - in which Cube also provided a voice on the show.

Scrubs, Comedy Central, 7:00pm -

Zac Braff and company have a hilarious time as the cast of Scrubs find themselves particularly distressed in this J.D.-Elliot hot-and-heavy episode. As their relationship catches fire, interns and staffers alike find bare their souls to a psychologist. Tune in to the funny at 7:00pm.

Ugly Betty, ABC, 8:00pm -

One of my favorites that I’ve had to reluctantly let go off during this tense political climate, Ugly Betty, is a show worth watching for Thursday! On tonight’s episode, Betty tries to patch things up with an equally reluctant Gio and Daniel, again, reacts to a startling revelation in the Meade family.

Supernatural, CW, 9:00pm -

Having lost a little bit of faith in Smallville, tonight’s primetime slot goes to Supernatural and their Oktoberfest episode. Several unsolved murders occur during an Oktoberfest celebration and the Winchester Brothers find out that the killer is a shape-shifting demon who’s taken on the forms of iconic movie monsters. Will the duo be victorious? Tune in at 9:00pm to find out.

Talk to Me, HBO, 10:00pm -

I have yet to see this movie about the life and times of celebrated Civil Rights radio DJ – Petey Greene, but I will tonight. The ex-con’s biography plays out on the small screen and is portrayed by GIANT Magazine cover-boy, Don Cheadle. To see where we’re going, sit down at 10:00pm to HBO and see where we’ve come from.

Family Guy, Adult Swim, 11:00pm -

Meg gets into extracurricular activities as a flag girl for her high school. Now, “almost” a cheerleader, Meg has to deal with her pesky family – mainly Peter – and his Chris-envy issues. Pop culture references, funny gags and just all-around better than “Simpsons” humor is what you’ll have to look forward to on Adult Swim!
