“I feel like Barbie is great because it doesn’t only focus on beauty – you have Barbies that work, they have tons of different jobs now. And they come in different shades, which I love, and different hairstyles. So I think that they’ve gotten to the point where they’re making girls feel like it’s OK not to look like or be like the traditional Barbie. BET Bans Nicki Minaj’s “Stupid Hoe” Video

First Lady of Young Money, Nicki Minaj, is building buzz for her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The video for the lead single, “Stupid Hoe,” is stirring up plenty of controversy by its lonesome. BET has banned the clip just a few days before Nicki’s Super Bowl performance with Madonna.

TMZ reported a rep for the network confirmed Minaj’s video was pulled from rotation. A reason for the action wasn’t given, however, many speculate it was snatched off the network due to the repetitive use of the word ‘hoe.’ Moreover, Nicki Minaj is seen dancing and writhing suggestively in a cage. Her dancing might have been deemed too racy for BET. This isn’t the first time BET banned a video. 2010 marked the year Ciara’s visual for “Ride” was pulled from rotation for being too sexual and sensual.

We’re sure Minaj isn’t sweating it. She is performing at the Superbowl with Madonna, working on the new Ice Age sequel, and looking forward to the Grammys.

We thought the beef between Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim was over, that was until Nicki released “Stupid Hoe.” The upbeat anthem is filled with subliminal disses like “B*tch talking she the queen when she looking like a lab rat.” Kim isn’t bowing out though, the Brooklyn femcee claims she has something that will ruin Nicki Minaj’s career. Though I doubt anything can slow down the Nicki train, it will be nice to see Kim reclaim her throne!

Not much has come out about Madonna’s Superbowl performance. She’s one of those artists who likes to make everything a surprise. The legendarypop star did announce Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. would make appearances during her set. Another performer reported to be participating in the halftime show is Cee-Lo Green.

The rapper turned singer has been quieting acclimating himself with Madonna’s 30 year catalogue of music. Although news of the Nicki, Cee-Lo, and M.I.A.’s involvement has been leaked, Madonna’s camp is saying they are only a few of the surprises Madonna has planned. They refuse to comment further on anything else concerning Madonna’s Superbowl performance. We’ll have to wait until February 5th to see it.

After being released on January 20th, the Barbie’s Hype Williams directed video amassed 4.8 million views in a 24 hour span. Vevo confirmed Nicki Minaj’s record breaking moment with Digital Spy.

“Stupid Hoe” is the first single from Minaj’s sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. Look for the album to hit the streets on April 3rd.

A month ago Nicki Minaj hopped on Twitter to gush about locking lips with the most successful women in the history of music: Madonna.

It happened on the set of Madonna’s upcoming video for “Give Me All Your Love,” the first single off her forthcoming album M.D.N.A. It features M.I.A. and Minaj, who was celebrating her birthday. Madonna kiss was apparently a wonderful gift.

“OH MY f’ingggg Gahhhh!!!!! MADONNA jus kissed me!!!!!,” Nicki tweeted. “On the lips!!!!!!! It felt sooooo good. Soooo soft!!!! *passes out* aaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!”

Last night during a Nightline interview on ABC Madonna briefly spoke about the love she gave Minaj.

“I did [kiss Nicki],” she confirmed. “But it was her birthday. I just gave her a birthday kiss. No tongue. She has lovely lips. We sang happy birthday to her and then I gave her a kiss on the mouth.”

In the thirty years since the debut of MTV the music video has taken on a life of its own, especially in hip-hop. Thanks to smart phones, tablets and broadband access viewers are no longer tethered to their televisions for a music video fix.

While music sales may be in a flux, music fans have demonstrated a voracious appetite for visuals of their favorite artists. Though there is a definite correlation between which songs get drilled into our heads on the air and what gets watched online, in some cases videos helped buoy songs that otherwise flew beneath the collective radar.

So using a very unscientific mix of video plays and public perception we present the biggest hip-hop videos of 2011. (Play data is from December 24, 2011.)
