Since the inception of The Boondocks one of the most polarizing (and hilarious) characters in the strip and on the show has been the curmudgeon Uncle Ruckus.

Voiced by actor Gary Anthony Williams (Boston Legal, Malcolm In The Middle) there is no end to how offensive this ornery school janitor can be. With the third and final season airing this weekend, The UrbanDaily.com caught up with the man behind the most racist Black man ever, and were even granted a few minutes with Uncle Ruckus himself to discuss politics, movies and fried chicken.

TUD: How did you get the role doing the voice of Uncle Ruckus on The Boondocks?

Gary Anthony Williams: I was always a fan of The Boondocks in the papers. In fact I had all of the books and my agent said there was an audition for the Boondocks. I said I want to audition for every male character on the show. Then I slept around with a bunch of people to make sure I got the job. That’s how I nailed my position…

Literally…

Yes, Litcharilly (laughs) I auditioned for Huey, Riley, Grandpa, Tom and Uncle Ruckus. I’m from the south and I grew up with a bunch of southerners and friends of my daddy. And I think they realized that I knew that self-hatred that comes with Uncle Ruckus. I’ve seen those dudes walking around where I’m from.

Aaron McGruder is great at pushing buttons, so what will the controversy be this season?

Well there was a BET episode that didn’t get to air last season. There is another one [this season] I’m a little afraid won’t air. It’s about a very popular African-American icon who makes movies. I’m a little afraid that it will never see the light of day because he’s almost as powerful as Oprah Winfrey. I’m hoping it will show up. I love the episode.

I was curious about the BET episode because Reggie Hudlin was one of the producers on The Boondocks but was being lampooned in that BET episode…

These are things that I can’t speak of legally. Nobody has told me that I can’t, but I’m not an idiot. I know better [Laughs].

It sounds like it’s going to be a great season. Are you sad to see it go?

I’m extremely sad to see it go. I think it’s hilarious and I think it’s got social importance. I love doing it and since I don’t use the word “n*gger” in my private life I’m gonna miss using that word. I don’t know how I’m gonna get by without just calling people “n*gger!” There have been rumors of a film but those are just rumors. I am going to have some plastice surgery though so I look just like Uncle Ruckus.

You should tour as Uncle Ruckus. Folks would pay to see that.

There was one time during a political campaign and Aaron had the idea to send me to these rallies dressed as Uncle Ruckus and take the stage.

Well let’s hear what Uncle Ruckus has to say about the next election. That may or may not be a good idea…

He claims she's "going to die in two years" if she doesn't lose weight and the only role she could ever play in Hollywood again would be in The Blind Side 2, as the linebacker. He even says Oprah should have an immediate intervention with Gabourey. Peep the video for the full rant:

Who will take home the Oscar at this Sunday’s Academy Awards? The Urbandaily makes some predictions.

BEST PICTURE NOMINEES:

Avatar

Hurt Locker

The Blind Side

District 9

An Education

Inglorious Basterds

Precious

A Serious Man

Winner: The Hurt Locker. While Avatar wins in the court of popular opinion (ticket sales have already surpassed $1 billion), ‘Hurt Locker’ is clearly the critics’ darling, being hailed as the best movie of 2009 by countless reviewers. Kathryn Bigelow, the movie’s director, was recently awarded the 2009 Director Guild’s Outstanding Achievement in Feature Film, making her the first woman director to win. After a 12 year hiatus, Cameron showed exactly why he is ‘on top of the world’…’Avatar’s anti-capitalist, anti-militarist, pro-environmentalist opus is cleverly packaged in a visual masterpiece of CG magic. Of interest, Bigelow and Cameron were married briefly from 1989-1991…Sunday’s win just might prove who was the better half of their short-lived relationship.

BEST ACTOR NOMINEES:

Jeff Bridges (‘Crazy Heart’)

George Clooney (‘Up in the Air’)

Colin Firth (‘A Single Man’)

Morgan Freeman (‘Invictus’)

Jeremy Renner (‘The Hurt Locker’)

Winner: Jeff Bridges. I’m sure half of America hasn’t even seen this movie, but a good performance is a good performance. Jeff Bridges is second generation Hollywood with a strong body of work and the Academy knows it. His only serious threat would be Morgan Freeman, and while he already has an Oscar under his belt (‘Million Dollar Baby’), this would be his first win in the Best Actor category.

BEST ACTRESS

Sandra Bullock (‘The Blind Side’)

Helen Mirren (‘The Last Station’)

Carey Mulligan (‘An Education’)

Gabourey Sidibe (‘Precious’)

Meryl Streep (‘Julie & Julia’)

Winner: Sandra Bullock. I must admit, I’m a little baffled that Bullock would be nominated for a movie that was better suited for a Lifetime Movie of the Week. She’s already won the SAG and the Golden Globe, and in all of her interviews she’s repeatedly said that she didn’t deserve to win. This goes beyond false modesty or insecurity—she knows this is NOT her best body of work. Hopefully the Academy will spare us another one of her ‘I don’t deserve to win..’ speeches and give it to a more deserving actress. On another note, I wish the Academy would create a “Best Breakthrough Performance” category just for Gabourey Sidibe…yes, the critics are going ga-ga over 25 year old Carey Mulligan’s ability to play a 17 year old in ‘An Education’…but try playing a 13 year old at age 26 as Sidibe accomplished believably in ‘Precious.’

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

Matt Damon (‘Invictus’)

Woody Harrelson (‘The Messenger’)

Christopher Plummer (‘The Last Station’)

Stanley Tucci (‘The Lovely Bones’)

Christopher Waltz (‘Inglourious Basterds’)

Winner: Stanley Tucci. Tucci winning the Oscar would be tantamount to hazard pay—I don’t know any actor who would relish applying his Method acting skills into playing a creepy child molester/murderer. But if Anthony Hopkins could win Best Actor for playing a charming psychologist/cannibal in ‘Silence of the Lambs’, why not Tucci?

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Penelope Cruz (‘Nine’)

Mo’Nique (‘Precious’)

Vera Farmigia (‘Up in the Air’)

Maggie Gyllenhall (‘Crazy Heart’)

Anna Kendrick (‘Up in the Air’)

Winner: Mo’Nique. Admit it, this category is the reason most Americans of color will be watching. Say what you want about the political incorrectness of ‘Precious’, Mo’Nique’s performance was absolutely riveting. She was an evil b*tch–but the kind you see everyday in your own family, down the hall, or sitting next to you on the train. From the ever dangling cigarette in the corner of her mouth, to her unshaved armpits, Mo’Nique kept her character rooted in reality, and never insulted the audience’s intelligence by making her sympathetic or likeable.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, comedian Mo’Nique defends her decision to not participate in any of the Oscar buzz surrounding her outstanding performance in the highly successful film Precious.

“Anytime I’ve been given an award, it has been because of the performance; what else goes into it?” she said, appearing genuinely mystified. “Look, it makes me appreciative any time someone says they may want to honor your performance. I’m appreciative at any talk in reference to any award, but there’s not much I can do about it now. The performance is done.”

Monique Channeled Own Abuse For Role In “Precious”

Film Critics Association Selects “Precious” As Top Film Of 2009

I have to applaud her for taking this stance and refusing to give into the brown-nosing that comes around when it’s time to talk Oscar nominations. The Oscars are given in recognition of an actor’s outstanding performance in a film, not based on participation in press junkets. If everyone feels that her performance is worthy of an Oscar, what difference does it make whether or not she goes on every talk show or does interviews with every magazine and newspaper to promote the film? Enough buzz was generated about her performance before the movie even hit theaters that it really wasn’t necessary! It’s difficult to read an article about the film that does not glowingly fawn over Mo’Nique’s performance and/or that of her co-star Gabourey Sidibe.

So again, kudos to Mo’Nique for making it about her art, and not about the cult of celebrity. If only more of her peers could let their work speak for itself without being attention whores…

Why Some Blacks Prefer ‘Blind Side’ to ‘Precious’

Los Angeles, CA (December 14, 2009) – The African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has named “Precious” as the Best Picture of 2009. Directed by Lee Daniels, the Lionsgate release captured a majority vote by the organization, which is comprised of African-American media professionals from across the nation. Founded in 2003, AAFCA will present this year’s honors at its first live event tonight, Monday, December 14, 2009, at the historic Ebony Repertory Theatre in Los Angeles.

Morgan Freeman was selected as Best Actor 2009 for “Invictus.” Nicole Beharie earned AAFCA recognition as Best Actress 2009 for “American Violet.” With the first unanimous vote in an acting category in the organization’s history, Mo’Nique was selected Best Supporting Actress for “Precious.” Anthony Mackie earned Best Supporting Actor recognition for his performance in “The Hurt Locker.” Lee Daniels was named Best Director for “Precious,” with a tie for Best Screenplay between Ron Clements, Rob Edwards, John Musker for “The Princess & The Frog” and Geoffrey Fletcher for “Precious.”

“In 2009, the film community produced a dazzling array of performances from African-American talent both in front of and behind the camera,” states Gil Robertson IV, AAFCA Co-Founder. “This year’s selections give a strong indication that the film community is becoming more committed to a wider range of stories that entertain and educate.”

There are two new films at the box office depicting poor black teenagers trying to escape their gritty urban lives. But only one of them is drawing criticism from many members of the black community.

“Precious,” the critically acclaimed drama about an illiterate black teenage girl abused by her mother and pregnant with a second child by her father, has come under fire by a number of blacks, including Washington Post columnist Courtland Milloy and former Time magazine columnist Jack White.

Meanwhile, blacks, for the most part, have been noticeably silent about “The Blind Side,” the Sandra Bullock-helmed movie based on the true story of a Memphis family, the Tuohys, who take in a poor homeless black boy, Michael Oher, who becomes an NFL star.

Chicago Tribune film critic Michael Phillips finds the discrepancy puzzling.

What do you think? Is the story of Blind Side easier to digest than Precious? Why or why not?

In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, Mo’Nique opens up about the sexual abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of her eldest brother – and how she channeled that experience onscreen.

“Coming from being molested as a child, when [director Lee Daniels] said, ‘I need you to be this monster,’ well [I] knew who that monster was,” she says.

Now, critics are pegging Mo’Nique, 41, as a possible Oscar nominee, but that doesn’t phase her. “Any buzz I’m appreciative of,” she says simply.
