Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest is the highly anticipated and controversial documentary about one of hip-hop’s most revered groups.  In this clip from the film, Q-Tip and Phife touch on the pressures they faced when recording their second album, 1991’s The Low End Theory.

The majority of the members of A Tribe Called Quest were notably absent at the premiere of Michael Rapaport’s documentary on the group, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest, at the Sundance Film Festival this year.  Only Phife Dawg made it to the premiere.

Members of A Tribe Called Quest appeared on MTV yesterday to address their issues with the upcoming documentary about the group, produced by actor Michael Rapaport. The group’s frontman, Q-Tip read an email from the production team that Tip says shows that they were out to screw the group financially.

In a press release circulated today, Michael Rapaport claims that Sony Pictures Classics purchased the rights to his documentary on A Tribe Called Quest. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding is at work on the follow-up to her 2010 album, Chamber Music Society, with none other than A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip in the producer's chair.
