Reggie Bush has forfeited his Heisman Trophy before a committee could decide whether or not the New Orleans Saints running back should be stripped of the award.

Bush was deemed ineligble by the NCAA for the 2005 season due to gifts he received while a student at USC.  The Heisman Trust was to meet later this month, reportedly to decide whether or not to strip him of the award.

Bush released the following statement through the New Orleans Saints:

One of the greatest honors of my life was winning the Heisman Trophy in 2005. For me, it was a dream come true.

But I know that the Heisman is not mine alone. Far from it. I know that my victory was made possible by the discipline and hard work of my teammates, the steady guidance of my coaches, the inspiration of the fans, and the unconditional love of my family and friends. And I know that any young man fortunate enough to win the Heisman enters into a family of sorts. Each individual carries the legacy of the award and each one is entrusted with its good name.

It is for these reasons that I have made the difficult decision to forfeit my title as Heisman winner of 2005. The persistent media speculation regarding allegations dating back to my years at USC has been both painful and distracting. In no way should the storm around these allegations reflect in any way on the dignity of this award, nor on any other institutions or individuals. Nor should it distract from outstanding performances and hard-earned achievements either in the past, present or future.

For the rest of my days, I will continue to strive to demonstrate through my actions and words that I was deserving of the confidence placed in me by the Heisman Trophy Trust. I would like to begin in this effort by turning a negative situation into a positive one by working with the Trustees to establish an educational program which will assist student-athletes and their families avoid some of the mistakes that I made. I am determined to view this event as an opportunity to help others and to advance the values and mission of the Heisman Trophy Trust.

I will forever appreciate the honor bestowed upon me as a winner of the Heisman. While this decision is heart-breaking, I find solace in knowing that the award was made possible by the support and love of so many. Those are gifts that can never be taken away.

Just want to thank everyone for their support throughout this tough time. This has been a hard decision for me today but I feel it’s right.

I hope that kids and upcoming youth can look at me and use this story as an example and learning tool. Challenges are a part of life.

Reggie Bush is expected to lose his Heisman Trophy by the end of September.

Bush would become the first player in the 75-year history of the award to have the trophy taken away. The NCAA found major violations in the Trojans’ football program in June and levied serious sanctions against the school.Two sources close to the Heisman trust said the body’s investigation is coming to a close, and will ultimately concur with the NCAA’s determination that Bush was ineligible during his Heisman-winning season in 2005. Because of that independent conclusion, sources said the trust will relieve Bush of the award and leave the honor for that season vacant. The sources said Bush met with Heisman representatives last month at the New York law offices of Emmet, Marvin & Martin. The sources would not reveal details of that meeting.

he Heisman trust has been conducting its own independent inquiry into Bush’s eligibility since the NCAA ruled in June that the USC star had committed multiple violations by accepting cash, gifts and other impermissible benefits while playing for the Trojans. Yahoo! Sports first detailed the extra benefits in September 2006. In its findings, the NCAA retroactively ruled Bush ineligible for part of the 2004 season and all of 2005. The NCAA also ordered the USC program to remove all references to Bush from its sporting venues and promotional materials and vacate his statistics from all games in which he was ineligible.

For a USC graduate, Heismen Trophy winner, ex-Kardashian lover, and athlete who gave New Orleans their first Superbowl win ever, Reggie Bush is arguably the epitome of an all American. And before the New Orleans Saint’s training camp, I felt the same way. However, the day I met Reggie was the day I realized meeting your celebrity crush will only leave you like Kim….crushed.

August heat in the south can be deadly. It was 2007, and the Saints were training at Millsaps College in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina left them without a place to practice. Temperatures can reach the 100s with humidity high. But for me, sitting outside for two hours just to watch the New Orleans Saints’ practice was worth it to meet my celebrity boo.

Once practice was done, fans were able to mingle with the team and have them sign paraphernalia. Many of the players were extremely nice, flirtatious, and quite scrumptious (if I might add) when I asked them to sign my football. But those players were merely helping me pass time. I was there to see Reggie.

As I got closer to Reggie, I looked past the fact that he didn’t stand 6’0 like his stats indicated, but 5’10 (with cleats). Or, that his pads seemed to make him look the same size as he looked shirtless on magazine covers. I didn’t want much from him; a signature, a smile and maybe a compliment was enough to make those two hours worth it. But once I got close enough for a signature, something went terribly wrong.

My cousin and his friends were in the background shouting, “Get Reggie to take your paternity test” and “hurry up and get his number so we can go!” Much of the crowd was laughing and I got a little uncomfortable, so in an effort to hide my embarrassment I responded with “ain’t nobody thinking about Reggie!” Well, I assumed because I said it while laughing, and because my cousin and his friends were cracking jokes, it was understood I was a humiliated fan with a huge crush. But for Reggie, his ego was surprisingly hurt. When I finally got close enough to him, not only did he bend down to sign my ball and then abruptly stop and walk away, but punished everyone standing near me by only signing autographs on the side opposite of where I was standing. Everyone moved to the other side, and after I picked up my jaw I followed suit. Reggie was the last person to sign my football, and I was the last person’s football he signed. But once it was signed, I said thank you and he walked away without saying a word. All I wanted to do was throw the ball at the back of his head and run.

I realized, naïve as it may sound, celebrities are people. Reggie was a young athlete at the time with a huge wallet and an ego to match. So, it’s expected for him to react the way he did. But like with any crush, getting to know more about the person you like can change your opinion about them. Bottom line, if you want to keep your celebrity relationship alive, don’t you dare meet them!

That’s right—Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush are back together.

Wearing her purple “Mr. and Mrs. Odom” sweats, the E! reality star hopped on the first flight to New Orleans late Sunday night following her sister’s nuptials.

“The wedding made her miss him, so she flew to see him,” an insider tells E! News.

Does this mean Reggie Bush will start playing better? The running back for the Saints has scored only one touchdown in three games this season and accumulated only 111 rushing yards.

The E! star and New Orleans Saints standout Reggie Bush have broken up, Kardashian’s rep confirms to E! News, barely two months after the brunette beauty denied reports that she and Bush had been ring shopping.

Both are “very sad” about the split, a source says.

With NFL training camp about to begin, the former couple, along with Khloé Kardashian, recently returned from a trip to Africa on behalf of the Russell Simmons Diamond Empowerment Fund.

Kim Kardashian may not be ready to have kids just yet, but the reality star says that motherhood is in her future one way or another.

“I think it is such a very unselfish and amazing thing to do,” she told PEOPLE at an event – “The Kardashians: Up Close and Personal” – at the Hilton hotel in Atlantic City Saturday night. “If I couldn’t have kids, I probably would adopt. If I could have my own, I would have my own.”

In the meantime, Kardashian says she’s looking for new home, but does not plan on moving in with her boyfriend, NFL star Reggie Bush, any time soon.

“I have done this before so I know by trial and error. I don’t think I would ever live with someone unless I’m engaged,” Kardashian said. “I’m really firm on that. I have done it before.”

Instead, Kardashian says she’s looking for a place to call her own. “It feels really good to be able to buy a place by myself,” she said. “It is time for me to move. I have lived in a condo and it’s just time. I’ve always wanted to buy a big house myself and it is so gratifying to be able to.”

But her boyfriend will have an open invitation to her new place when she finds it. “Obviously when you’re home you’re at each other’s house every night,” she said. “I just think it is so important for a women to keep her independence.”

Summer is just around the corner and Kim Kardashian is ready to show off her body.

“I feel great. I am ready for the bikini body,” she told PEOPLE on Wednesday at an opening bash for Dash, her new Miami boutique with sisters Khloe and Kourtney, at the Clevelander hotel in South Beach. “I am eating well and I go to the gym every day and I already see a difference.”

The 28-year-old reality star had blogged in March that she wanted was motivated to “get in better shape and tone up” after unretouched photos of her from Complex magazine appeared on the Internet.

Besides working on her body, Kardashian – who wore a sexy, form-fitting sleeveless dress at the bash, hosted at the hotel’s 1020 Music Boxx Club – is also ready for her siblings to take center stage in their own Keeping Up with the Kardashians spinoff, tentatively titled Kourtney and Chloe Take Miami. The E! show will focus on their new life running Dash in the south Florida city.

At the party, Khloe told PEOPLE that she’s ready to jump back in the reality saddle even after her unhappy experience being a contestant on the Celebrity Apprentice. “I couldn’t wait for it to be over to go home,” says Khloe. “I don’t regret it, but I would never do it again.”

Though she isn’t the star of her sisters’ new show, Kim says she’ll be making guest appearances on the Miami set with boyfriend Reggie Bush. “He’ll be spending time with me during the shoot,” she says.

And Kardashian reported that stepdad Bruce Jenner is looking great after his recent facelift, which was revealed on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. “I think Bruce looks amazing!” she said. “I’m all for looking your best, no matter what it takes.”
