2012 is the year of the Knowles sisters! Right on the heels of being a freshly minted auntie, Solange Knowles has signed a contract with Next Model Management.  Solange is no stranger to the fashion world–she already has modeling  gigs with Carol’s Daughter, Rimmel London, and Armani Jeans under her belt.  Solange is known for her edgy outfits and hair styles.  Of their newly acquired client, Next Model publicist Kate Moseley says:

“We are delighted to be working with Solange,” said Next global publicist Katy Moseley. “She is hugely popular and beautiful, with so many brilliant ideas and creative energy.”

Next month, Solange will be featured as VOGUE.com’s “Today I’m Wearing” campaign, following in the footsteps of previous supermodels like Alexa Chung and Alessandra Ambrosio.

The atmospheric song will benefit the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation’s RAIN (Replenishing Africa Initiative) with proceeds from the track being used to establish clean water standards for a several African countries including Uganda, Cameroon, and Rwanda.

Solange’s brother-in-law, Jay-Z, also worked to raise awareness to the water crisis in Africa several years ago when he started the Water For Life project.

Solange Knowles may be a Twitter addict, but it hasn’t influenced her sister Beyonce to join the social networking phenomenon.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press’, Beyonce — whose latest CD, “I Am … Sasha Fierce,” is double platinum — talked about resisting the pressure of Twitter nation, her forthcoming U.S. concerts (kicking off June 21 at Madison Square Garden), maneuvering in the show’s outrageous Thierry Mugler costumes and why Etta James never had her worried.

Beyonce: My sister is the Twitter queen. She told me about the twittering, but I don’t get it, I feel like I’m getting really old. I’m like, what? I don’t understand. Just call me.

Solange Knowles’ tour bus crashed into a herd of deer on Tuesday (March 9) night en route to a show in Houston, Texas.

According to the singer’s Twitter updates, she was relaxing in her bed on the bus when the accident occurred.

“I’m on the phone baking like Betty in my bus bunk and CRASH! Thought I was dead, but turns out we ran into a family of dear [sic],” wrote the younger sister of Beyonce Knowles.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, although one of her crew members did suffer a minor injury. “I can’t believe it. We’re all ok though,” she said. “Guitar player flew out of bunk [and] hurt his hand a little. But I’m saying a huge prayer of thanks right now. God is good ALL the time!”

In related news, the singer suffered a scare in February when she fainted at an airport and was rushed to the hospital for dehydration and low blood pressure.

The gossip site Bossip is always on they 9-to-5 grind when it comes to breaking situations. Most folks unfamiliar with Twitter may not get how interesting of a situation this is. But when you have Shaq tweeting minutes before his final All-Star appearance, Ms. Knowles twittering about her overdose (and subsequent passing out) from drinkin’ too much Sizzurp.

Our prayers go out to Ms. Knowles for her recovery.

Solange collapsed after downing a bunch of flu pills:

“R&B star Solange Knowles was admitted to hospital when she collapsed after downing flu pills on a flight out of New York

on Tuesday night (Feb. 17th).

Beyonce’s younger sister was treated by medics after taking the capsules onboard a plane and suffering an adverse reaction to the medication.
Her muddled mental state was laid bare in a series of bizarre postings on social networking website Twitter.com which she uploaded during the journey.

But three hours into the trip, her messages suddenly stopped after she complained of feeling sleepy – and three hours later she logged back on to the website to tell fans: “Woaah…… How’d I end up in the hospital?”

Knowles is believed to have been heading back to her home in Los Angeles after attending the opening of an Armani store in New York on Tuesday evening.

In a series of Twitter postings during the flight, she told fans how she had swallowed NyQuil tablets to treat a cold.

She wrote: “I took a nyquil and I think maybe im getting high off it because im not sleeping. maybe i should close my eyes…”

Minutes later she added, “think im certified loosing (sic) it on nyquil. going to sleep before i start freestyling on the plane… omg (Oh my God) i didnt know nyquil could do this to you. i took the pills tho. cant stomach cough syrup. trying to be proactive on this flight.”
She then added: “Never taking nyquil again. I feel so weird.”

The singer left further apparently random messages about various musicians and having “freezing” feet, before a break of three hours.

She then logged on again and wrote: “Woaah…… How’d I end up in the hospital? Woke up to 8 random people over me, laid out on the floor in baggage claim!… Guess I passed out! Scary. Hooked up to IV now . Apparantly I’m super dehydrated.”

“I’ve never passed out before. S**t was like the movies. People standing over me saying ‘hello’… My mom is the best. LOL (laugh out loud). She’s like ‘Ain’t nothing wrong with this girl, she need some water and rest… Pull up the car!’ LOL“

“I’m like still in shock. I’ve never passed out before. Think it was the nyquil too. I felt weird when I woke up. This has been the day from hell. I’m done with the second IV. I just want to get in the bed and lay with (son) Julez. That’s all I want.”

The singer later confirmed she had been released following treatment, writing: “I’m out! yay!… they let me go….. Rest. Water. Rest. Water.”

The list of nominees for this year’s Grammy Awards isn’t particulary different from previous years. Commercial heavyweights are peppered with critical favorites and a few quirky newcomers. Business as usual. Sure, there’s something amusing about Lil Wayne’s leading eight nominations. Album of the year pits him against Coldplay, Ne-Yo (a nice addition), Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and Radiohead. But I never warmed to Tha Carter III‘s crass, loopy rhymes. Lollipop? I’ll pass.

Kanye West’s six nominations were a nice surprise, but they’re all for collaborations with other artists (Estelle, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne). It’s nice to see Kylie Minogue in the mix for best/electronic dance album. And Jazmine Sullivan’s terrific Fearless disc stands to earn some well-deserved attention thanks to her five nods.

Shame on Grammy voters, however, for inexplicably excluding Leona Lewis from the best new-artist race. Lewis’ debut disc, Spirit, is a just-OK collection of diva balladry that could have made better use of her talent. But her singles have been sterling, and Bleeding Love was the sing-along song of 2008. She’s clearly a star on the rise.

Instead, we get Sullivan (good), British songbirds Adele and Duffy (not bad), the Jonas Brothers (OMG!) and Lady Antebellum, whose name is almost as groan-inducing as the country trio’s music.

Notably absent, even in the R&B categories, is Solange’s Sol-Angel at the Hadley Street Dreams. It wasn’t a huge radio success, but the Houston singer’s fantastic, retro-electro disc should have merited some sort of recognition.

I’ll likely be looking to the evening’s performances for real electricity. The evening’s most emotional moment is likely to come from Oscar-winner and Grammy nominee Jennifer Hudson, who is slowly re-emerging after a horrible family tragedy. Will she belt a single, her nominated duet with Fantasia Barrino (I’m His Only Woman) or a soaring gospel tribute?

Carrie Underwood will also add to the Idol lustre, and count on Chris Brown for slick dance moves and serious lip-synching.

There will be big band moments from U2, Radiohead and Coldplay; duets from Estelle/Kanye, Plant/Krauss and T.I./Justin Timberlake; and A-list pop from Rihanna, Katy Perry, the JoBros and a Miley Cyrus/Taylor Swift pairing that should immediately rack up the hits on YouTube.

Whatever the results of the evening, we’ll likely be talking, Twittering or texting about it.

Beyonce and Solange Knowles have canceled their Beyonce and Solange: Hope for the Holidays benefit show, citing “irresolvable scheduling conflicts.”

The concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Ike was scheduled for yesterday, December 9th, to be televised by FUSE.

No word yet on when or even if the show will be rescheduled, but the record label released a statement saying, “Beyonce and Solange regret the cancellation of their Houston-area holiday concert and urge their fans to support the efforts of The Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund and the Survivor Foundation.”

“Irresolvable scheduling conflicts” sounds like a BS to us!
