Clipse member Malice recently released a book titled “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind & Naked” available for purchase online at http://www.thorn10publishing.bigcartel.com. Malice has recently taken on a relationship with the man upstairs and when TUD heard about his book signing at the new location of Vinnies Styles clothing store in Brooklyn, NY, we had to get an interview.

VIDEO: Clipse Ain’t No Crybabies Over Manager’s Drug Incarceration

For those not familiar, The Clipse’s manager, Anthony Gonzalez aka Geezy was recently convicted for dealing drugs. He admitted to selling more than a half ton of cocaine and more than a ton of marijuana.

I did a little investigating and I read about Geezy’s trial he seems to be cooperating with authorities.

In exchange for his plea, and avoidance of a protracted trial, Gonzalez must cooperate with authorities in an ongoing investigation into his suppliers and any other illegal activity he may be aware of, according to court filings.

This sounds like the textbook definition of snitching to me. For every rich drug dealer there’s three that’s dead, four that’s in jail and three that snitch to the feds.

Former Clipse manager and nightclub owner Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez has been charged in U.S. District Court with running a $10 million a year drug ring [click here to read].

According to federal documents, Gonzalez’s 6 year drug empire has allegedly moved 100 pounds of cocaine and over a ton of marijuana through Hampton Roads, Virginia since 2003.

Authorities suspect Gonzalez imported the drugs from Panama Florida, California, and Arizona.

The 82-count indictment states that Gonzalez laundered drug money through several front businesses, including the Clipse’s booking agency Soul Providers Management [click here to read].

The federal document elaborates that the defendants painted “themselves out as music producers, rappers, entrepreneurs, club owners, clothing designers and other legitimate occupations in order to conceal the true source of their income.”

For fans of the Clipse, the Virginia rap duo’s upcoming third album, Till the Casket Drops, is a big deal, indeed. So it was with great pleasure that I ventured out tonight to hear the album’s first teaser single, the appropriately titled “Kinda Like a Big Deal,” which features a guest spot from Kanye West and should be released for public consumption on March 9. Super-instant react: It’s dope. The song finds the Thornton brothers in a far more upbeat mood than 2006′s supremely bitter Hell Hath No Fury – it just might be their first bona fide party track in years.

That vibe starts with the beat, a burner courtesy of DJ Khalil that opens with a blazing electric guitar lick before falling into a wicked sampled organ, guitar, and drum groove. Pusha T leads off with some vintage braggadocio: “The third time’s the charm/After two classics, another stripe upon my arm.” Pusha also finds time to crow about “how it feel to blow a hundred thou in a recession/With no second-guessing.” Recession rap this ain’t. Next up is Kanye, who delivers a swaggering verse that will remind listeners of how great he is when he actually raps. If Kanye’s lyrics comparing himself to “the black Marshall, mixed with Jay” are any hint, maybe he’s planning to get back to rapping full-time soon, lord willing. (Trivia note: I’m pretty sure I recognized a couple of Kanye’s punchlines, like the one mentioning “alligator souffle,” from a verse Yeezy spit on an early version of T.I.’s “On Top of the World” that I heard last year.) Pusha’s brother Malice follows with a sick verse of his own. Clever lyrics (of course), a tight beat, and a Kanye cameo: All in all, this single should make for a strong reintroduction for the Clipse.

“Kinda Like a Big Deal” is one of a handful of DJ Khalil-produced tracks that are being considered for Till the Casket Drops, which is tentatively expected to see a late-summer release. I also got an early listen to a few works in progress that might make it on to the album, including several sparkling beats that emerged from recent studio sessions in Miami with the Clipse’s longtime collaborator Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes. (Nothing is for certain yet, but the Clipse’s camp says Neptunes productions will likely account for about half of the final album when all’s said and done.) Pending further information, this is looking like it could end up being 2009′s rap album to beat. Anyone else looking forward to hearing the final product?

After having a pic of Jesus rolling in a caddy on the cover of their debut, Lord Willin, The Clipse are linking up with his look-a-like on their next album. Legendary producer Rick Rubin has been working on tracks for the Clipse’s long-awaited third album, Til The Casket Drops, this month, the rap duo’s camp tells EW. Rubin, who signed the Clipse to Columbia Records shortly after taking over as the label’s cochairman in 2007, has completed one tune with them so far in a Malibu studio; they plan to work with him on one to two more in the coming weeks.

Rubin is most known by younger fans for producing Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” but has worked with everyone from LL Cool J, RUN DMC and The Beastie Boys to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Earlier this week, Virginia rap duo Clipse dropped a new mixtape to lead up to their upcoming Till The Casket Drops album, which is due early next year. Titled Road To Till The Casket Drops, the mix boasts typically excellent Clipse raps atop beats lifted from Jay-Z, T.I., Jim Jones and others. The tape can be found here.

The tape is also meant to commemorate the launch of Play Cloths, Clipse’s new clothing line. On the website the duo have posted the first look at the Winter 2008 collection, which is an assortment of street wear not unlike Pharrell’s Ice Cream line.

All of this adds to the anticipation towards the duo’s upcoming album, but the plot thickens. They’ve also announced two Canadian dates in Calgary and Vancouver this coming January that will see them perform at Tequila Nightclub and Richard’s On Richards, respectively.
