It was reported the Grammy winner was pushed into filing for bankruptcy again. While some believe the cause is frivolous spending, TMZ says it has something to do with T-Boz’ ex-husband, Mack 10. He owes her $250,000 in back child support.

In light of recent events, The Urban Daily serves up a list of nine celebrities who have filed for bankruptcy. Let these stars’ mistakes be a lesson to you all. Pay the government, before you wind up homeless.

George Clinton

The man who has given the world beloved hits like “Atomic Dog,” “Flashlight,” and “One Nation Under A Groove” has been the victim of record industry rule #4080. George Clinton learned just how shady record companies were in 1985 when he filed for bankruptcy. He was forced to do so because he signed contracts which gave most of the royalties from his music to the record companies. Clinton’s only way of making money from his music was to tour. As soon as people thought George was back on his feet, it was announced George Clinton still didn’t have any money when his mother passed in 2010. Failing health and all, Clinton is still touring to make ends meet.

Natalie Cole

1997 was a roller coaster of a year for Natalie Cole. After winning her eighth Grammy, she filed for bankruptcy. Cole sought financial protection because her spending habits were out of control. Also, her success in the 90s was, in part, due to her recordings featuring her late father, Nat King Cole. Much of the money made from those works had to be paid to his estate. They say never do business with family and Natalie Cole is a prime example. If you do business with  your family, you might just end up broke.

Marvin Gaye

The first thing you think of when Marvin Gaye’s name is mentioned is his voice. Say what you will about his addictions and tragic demise, but the man knew how to sing a woman right out of her clothes. His womanizing was the cause for his divorce to Anna Gordy in 1973. By 1976, Gaye had fallen behind on alimony payments to Gordy. To keep himself out of jail, signed over the royalties to his album, Here, My Dear, to his ex-wife. The double album detailed his feelings about their divorce. With song titles like “Anger” and “When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You,” we know it was a hard break up as well as a long journey back to financial freedom.

Toni Braxton

The financial woes of Toni Braxton are crazy enough to be their own character on her reality show. In the late 90s,  Braxton filed for bankruptcy because of what she claims to have been her chronic health problems, bad business dealings, and medical expenses. She landed back in the black with the release of her album, The Heat. However, the good times didn’t last and she filed for bankruptcy for a second time in 2010. Braxton Family Values is a hit and the money generated from the show can help keep her afloat. Maybe a better accountant would help too.

Suge Knight

The reputation precedes the man when referring to Suge Knight. How a man goes from running one of  the hottest labels in the history of hip-hop to being in prison owing a person $107 million dollars is beyond me. I take that back. In Suge’s case, that is quite possible. Lydia Harris won $107 million from Knight on the grounds he cheated her husband out of a 50% stake in Death Row Records. At the time of his filing, court documents revealed Knight’s bank account held only $12. I wonder which he is more embarrassed of: having $12 to his name after such an extravagant few years or getting knocked out by some random dude in a club and having the picture of him laid out being posted on the internet?

TLC

The ladies of TLC experienced the seedier side of the music business before they filed for bankruptcy. First they signed a management deal with former singer, Pebbles, which gave her a monetary cut of every business deal the group made. Then, when the trio fired her, she sued them for $40 million. They settled out of court with the stipulation, Pebbles got a piece of their future earnings. After that was taken care of, the group released their landmark album, CrazySexyCool. While it sold upwards of 10 million records, the girls were left with $50,000 a piece. Left Eye famously explained how they wound up broke in their episode of Behind The Music. TLC bounced back in 1999 with another chart topping disc, but stopped recording music when the Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was killed in a car accident in Honduras in 2002.

Isaac Hayes

Isaac Hayes is the man behind some of the greatest soul records ever created. Being that songwriters get a bigger cut in the royalties than the performers, Isaac Hayes should’ve been well off, right? Wrong. Hayes filed for bankruptcy in 1974. Black Moses’ credit was already in the red with Union Planters Bank. He looked to his label, Stax Records, for help but they were in the same boat. Hayes negotiated a deal between himself, Stax Records, and Union Planters Bank. The terms were Stax would let the singer out of his contract to record elsewhere and the money made from the album would go to paying his debt incurred with the bank. By the end of the proceedings, Hayes was left without a home, no personal property, none of his future royalties from anything he wrote or performed. Good thing his speaking voice was so distinctive. Hayes’ bank account was increased when he voiced the character of Chef on South Park years later.

MC Hammer

When people hear about MC Hammer’s meteoric rise and drastic fall, all they can do is shake their heads. He is the poster child for what happens when you overextend yourself while trying to live as lavishly as possible. Hammer went $13 million into debt because he employed half of Oakland as part of his entourage. His monthly expenses were over $500,000 and that’s before taking care of his family. Hammer got his life right with God and is now working with start up internet companies trying to further the positive uses of the internet. Oh yeah, did we mention his appearances in those Cash 4 Gold commercials? He’s doing those too.

Ron Isley

The lead singer of The Isley Brothers was placed on the list of California’s most delinquent taxpayers in the early 2000s. He filed for bankruptcy after some of  his property, including a yacht, was repossessed. Once Uncle Sam got his hands on Ron Isley’s yacht, he figured that wasn’t good enough. Isley was thrown in prison for 37 months for tax evasion. He has since been released from prison, dropped an album, and is working on another with R. Kelly.

TLC which stood for Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas, introduced 90′s music to a mixture of R&B, funk and what people called “new jack swing” with their debut song “Ain’t To Proud To Beg.” T-Boz’ voice was unlike anything we had heard from a female, raspy in nature and raw with a tom-boy spirit. TLC’s following album Crazy Sexy Cool made them the first female group to receive a diamond status from the RIAA, selling over 22 million copies after it’s release in 1994. “Creep,” “Waterfalls” and “Red Light Special” were all singles from the Grammy Award winning album. The album was ranked number 377 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. TLC’s next album FanMail sold 5 million copies and was the last album featuring all three of the original members. Lisa Lopes died in 2002.

Destiny’s Child debuted on the music scene in 1997 under the name “Girls’ Tyme.” The group consisting of Beyonce, Kelly, Latavia and Latoya were signed to Columbia Records where they released number one singles “No, No, No Pt 2,” “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name” off the debut album The Writing’s On The Wall; which has sold 15+ million copies to date! Destiny’s Child were on their way to super stardom when the group lost Latoya and Latavia to personal differences which they blamed on Beyonce and management. That didn’t stop DC, they regrouped with two new members and released Survivor. Survivor has sold 12 million copies since, but then addition Farrah Franklin didn’t make it past that album. Destiny’s Child moved forward with Kelly, Beyonce, and Michelle producing albums 8 Days Of Christmas and Destiny Fulfilled.

American Idol ended their 10th season with performances from Beyonce, Lady Gaga, TLC, American Idol’s judge Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony. The show was filled with surprises like Lil Jon representing for the A as he introduced TLC. Jennifer Lopez performed a sexy dance for husband Marc Anthony. Here are our top 9 music videos of the 1990s.

9. The Roots “What They Do”
The Roots’ perfectly skewered the fantasy world of hip-hop music videos in their 1996 clip for “What They Do,” but found themselves at odds with The Notorious B.I.G. who, according to Roots drummer ?uestlove, thought the video was retaliation for a line in his “Flava In Your Ear” remix verse that many perceived to be a dis towards the group. Big Poppa passed before both sides could set the record straight.

8. The Pharcyde “Drop”
Directed by famed video director Spike Jonze, The Pharcyde were able to pull off the backwards “Drop” video by learning the song in reverse, and shooting the video in reverse. Hands down one of the most creative music videos in hip-hop, and one of the first videos we wrote down when putting this list together.

7. The Notorious B.I.G. “One More Chance”
Not since the classic Kid & Play film had a house party been captured on film so well that everyone who watched it wished they had been in attendance. Sporting cameos from everyone from Heavy D & D-Nice to Mary J. Blige and Aaliyah, “One More Chance” was an instant classic.

6. Snoop Doggy Dogg “Doggy Dogg World”
Snoop’s final video from his debut album took everyone back to the 1970s with cameos from The Dramatics, Pam Grier, Rudy Ray Moore, Ron O’Neal, Fred Williamson, Fred “Rerun” Berry and Antonio “Huggy Bear” Fargas. This was definitely another one of those video shoots we wish we had been at.

5. TLC “Waterfalls”
TLC’s special effects heavy video for “Waterfalls” earned the group the 1995 MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year. The video features cameos from actors Ella Joyce and Bokeem Woodbine plus Wu-Tang affiliate Shyheim.

4. Wu-Tang Clan “Triumph”
Wu-Tang Clan kicked off their second album with the “Triumph” video which featured the clan (and some Wu-Tang killer killah bees) invading New York City.

3. Busta Rhymes “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See”
Director Hype Williams parodied Eddie Murphy’s classic 1988 film Coming To America for Busta’s 1997 video for “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See.” Williams’ unique style of direction became synonymous with music videos in the 1990s.

2. Michael Jackson “Remember The Time”
Boyz N The Hood director John Singleton shot the second video from Michael Jackson’s Dangerous album, “Remember The Time.” The video takes place in ancient Egypt and stars Eddie Murphy and Iman as the pharaoh and his queen. Magic Johnson, Tom “Tiny” Lister, and Imani from The Pharcyde also appear in the video.

1. Missy Elliot “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)”
Missy Elliot’s reign as queen of weird music videos began with this Hype Williams directed clip. The oversized garbage bag suit, the fish eye lens, the distorted mouths and eyes… “The Rain” proved that hip-hop videos could be more than just a bunch of dudes mean-mugging the camera.

If you’re wondering why the song sounds so familiar, it’s because it was originally a TLC song called “Fanmail” from their 1999 album of the same name.

Drake does an okay job with it, but we prefer the TLC original.

Music and movies have always gone together.  Musicals have been popular films since the golden era of Hollywood.  Back in the day, it was almost required that film stars be able to sing just as well as they could act.

Sadly, the marriage between music and movies hasn’t been entirely blissful, especially when hip-hop is added into the equation.  Over the years many films have been made with hip-hop culture at the focal point, or with rappers in starring roles, few of them worth the celluloid they were filmed on.

Here’s a look at some of the worst hip-hop films that we’ve seen starring rappers ternt actors.

Belly (1998)

This Hype Williams directed movie has only one saving grace: the work of its cinematographer, Malik Sayeed.  Belly is a beautiful film to look at, but Williams uses every music video cliché possible and fails to provide an interesting story, or even a cast (Nas, DMX, Method Man, T-Boz from TLC) capable of making the film bearable to watch. After the nearly perfect intro sequence, the movie spirals out of control.  Fortunately for movie-goers, Hype hasn’t directed a feature length film since this one.  A sequel of sorts was released straight-to-DVD in 2008 and starred The Game but I didn’t even bother to watch it. I’m sure it’s worthy of a spot on this list as well.

State Property 2 (2005)

State Property 2 had a whole bunch of cameos and no plot whatsoever. How in the hell did Beanie Sigel get out of jail after shooting up the courtroom in the first place? Dame Dash tries to make an overblown Rocafella ad with all of the artists on the label without thinking of any character development or plot or acting. On the flipside, Noreaga is amusing as El Pollo Loco.

SP2 is also notable for it’s liberal usage of the F word, as evidenced in this below highlight reel from the film

Before I Self Destruct (2009)

It’s a film starring 50 Cent. Need I say more? Curtis stars in this film as a young guy who wants a basketball career, but after his mother is killed, he’s hellbent on revenge.  This waste of time was packaged with 50′s album of the same name, and features one of the most ridiculous sex scenes ever filmed.

Full Clip (2004)

Busta Rhymes stars in this loose reworking of the 1970s film Bucktown as Pope who returns to his hometown to claim an inheritance left by his father.  Pope finds that the town in a much different state than when he left and he partners up with his old friend Duncan (Xzibit) to reclaim the town.  Wyclef appears in the film as the narrator of the story who you want to empty a full clip on by the time the film reaches its halfway point.

Cool As Ice (1991)

Vanilla Ice stars in this film loosely based on the classic James Dean film Rebel Without A Cause. Ice was at the height of his popularity when this film dropped, and his status as every teenaged girl’s fantasy couldn’t save this movie from tanking. Lucky for us, Ice delivered one classic piece of dialogue that will forever live in infamy…

“Drop that zero and get with this hero!”

Rappin (1985)

As a kid, I made an ill-advised trip to the movie theater with my sisters to see this Mario Van Peebles movie that came out when movies like the Breakin’ franchise, Krush Groove, and Beat Street were all the rage. Ninety long minutes later, we emerged from the theater wanting our $2.50 back.  Rappin was a re-telling (notice a trend here?) of Robin Hood in which Mario Van Peebles starred as Rappin John Hood (get it?).  No words can explain just how bad this movie was, so peep the trailer:

With all of the direct-to-DVD hood flicks that being hawked at barbershops across the country, we’ve certainly missed a few of them.  Which ones would you put on your list???

Chilli of the legendary Atlanta girl group TLC stopped by Majic 107.5 / 97.5 today and spoke with Carol Blackmon about a variety of topics, including her upcoming VH1 reality show, “What Chilli Wants,” which premiers Sunday, April 11th at 10:30 pm.

The show follows Chilli in Atlanta and Las Vegas as the singer looks for love and goes on dates with people like boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Ruff Endz “No More”

Oran “Juice” Jones “The Rain”

The classic Def Jam record chronicles the story of a man who catches his woman on a date with another man, and concludes with the hilarious confrontation.

“Did you miss me? I missed you too. I missed you so much I followed you today.”

Eminem “Kim”

Raw emotion makes for great art. Eminem wrote this murderous tale after his on/off girlfriend Kim (hence the title) cheated on him. This one still gives me chills to this day.

“Never knew me cheating on you would come back to haunt me / But we was kids then Kim, I was only 18 / That was years ago / I thought we wiped the slate clean”

Erykah Badu “Tyrone”

This classic song about a woman kicking her man to the curb even had the fellas conceding defeat.

“I think you better call Tyrone / But you can’t use my phone”

D’Angelo “S**t, Damn, M**********r”

R&B’s Howard Hughes sings about catching his wife with his best friend. Violence ensues.

“I’m ’bout to go get my nine / and kill both of y’alls behinds”

TLC “No Scrubs”

Labeled male bashers by every man after the song dropped, only the ones that fit the description should’ve been mad at T-Boz, Left Eye and Chilli.

“I don’t want your number / No / I don’t wanna give you mine / And no / I don’t wanna meet you nowhere / No / I don’t want none of your time”

Sporty Thievz “No Pigeons”

Of course the men had to respond to TLC. Sporty Thievz came through with their sole hit and gave TLC what for.

“Y’all chicks ain’t gettin’ nada / Uh oh! / Your p*ssy ain’t worth the Ramada / Uh oh! / Anyway your friend looks hotter / Uh oh! / Game is somethin’ we got a lot of”

Kelis “Caught Out There”

Kelis’ debut single was definitely the tale of a woman scorned and helped make her a household name.

“So sick of your games / I’ll set your truck to flames / And watch it blow up, blow up”

Method Man & D’Angelo “Break Ups 2 Make Ups”

Method Man confronts his ex-girl about her cheating ways and gives her no hope of ever rekindling their relationship.

“All up in my face acting overzealous / Like you want somethin from Meth / I hope it ain’t love girl / Cause I ain’t got none left for you”

Justin Timberlake “Cry Me A River”

Rumored to be about his break-up with Britney Spears, the video did nothing to squash those rumors with a girl that oddly resembled Spears getting dissed.

“Girl I refuse / You must have me confused with some other guy / The bridges were burned / Now its your turn / To Cry / So cry me a river”

RZA “Domestic Violence”

The Wu-Tang leader’s graphic song detailing an argument between him and his girl was shocking when it first came out, and is still just as shocking now!

“What the f*ck y’all birds talking about? / Get the f*ck out my house / ‘Fore I grab you by your hair and slap d*ck to your mouth”

BONUS:  Marvin Gaye Here My Dear LP

Marvin Gaye’s 1978 album, Here My Dear, is the ultimate tale of love gone wrong.  In an unprecedented move, Marvin agreed to give his ex-wife, Anna Gordy, the proceeds from his next album.  Initially Marvin planned to record a throwaway album and have it fail, but instead he grew fascinated with the concept and recorded one of the most etherous albums and released it on his ex-wife’s brother’s (Berry Gordy) label.

Anna contemplated suing Marvin for invasion of privacy after hearing the album for the first time.

“I guess I’ll have to say this album is / Dedicated to you. / Although perhaps you may not be happy, / this is what you want / So I conceded. / I hope it makes you happy. / There’s a lot of truth in it, babe.”

Or how about this gem?

“You got a flair for style / And the style is all the while / What could i do? / The judge said she got to keep on living the way she accustomed to.”

Frankie is seeking forgiveness from Chilli after their dust-up in Atlanta.

According to FreddyO.com, the whole thing went down at party in the ATL two weeks ago when a tipsy Frankie ran into the singer, who was in the middle of an interview. Frankie gave Chilli a hug, but was less than pleased with the squeeze she got back.

Unaware of the offense, Chilli walked away and began talking to Yung Joc. That’s when Frankie ran over, pushing several people aside in the process, and tried to grab her again. However, Chilli was able to push her hand away.

“You think you better than me,” Frankie reportedly shouted. “My daughter [Keyshia Cole] is better than you anyway!”

The reality TV star went on “The Ryan Cameron Show” on V103 and painted the whole thing as a misunderstanding. She also offered up her apologies to Chilli, but there’s no word on whether she has accepted the mea culpa.

After gracing stages on an international level to bolster their music careers, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas from R&B group TLC and Sandra “Pepa” Denton of Salt-N-Pepa fame will show their personal sides with their own Vh1 reality TV series. According to the New York Daily News, both shows are signed on for an initial eight half-hour episodes and are expected to debut in 2010.

Jelf Olde, EVP of Original Programming and Production, explained that choosing Chilli and Pepa for their own TV shows made sense because of VH1′s demographic. “These are women that our audiences know. They’re attached to them, they know their music, and they’re both women you can root for.”

While both shows will deal with relationship issues, Olde explained each woman has their own individual story to tell. “The shows are different. The Pepa show, I think, gives us a window into the real conversations women have about their lives and relationships. With Chilli, it’s breaking down why this gorgeous, successful woman is still single and pushing her to try new things and push her boundaries.”

Both reality shows are currently untitled.

If Chilli never drops that solo album, the former TLC singer/songwriter definitely has a bright future as a model.
