Actor/director Tyler Perry is heavy on the promotional trail for his new film , Good Deeds. The film stars Thandie Newton as well as himself. It centers around a man who has all the material possessions a person could ask for yet isn’t happy. Thandie Newton’s character comes along and opens his eyes to the world outside of money an materialism.

Before the premiere on Ferbuary 24th, Lionsgate Films is hooking up with Yahoo and Facebook to give fans a chance to ask Tyler Perry any Good Deeds related question they choose. The day after, fans can tune into the live stream of the official red carpet. You can check out the events below. The live chat starts Monday February 13th at 1 pm EST/ 10 am PST. Tyler Perry is out to rule the box office in 2012 with no less than four movies under his belt. Perry kicks off with the romantic comedy Good Deeds starring Perry, Gabrielle Union, Thandie Newton, and Phylicia Rashad. Perry plays Wesley Deeds, a fifth generation Ivy League businessman, whose perfect world is turned upside down when he meets a down on her luck single mother (Newton) who works as the cleaning lady in his office building. Next up for Perry is I, Alex Cross, the reboot of the James Patterson novels which is slated for an August release. In addition Perry, has The Marriage Counselor starring Jurnee Smollet and Kim Kardashian, and later this year, Madea’s Witness Protection.

Good Deeds opens in theaters February 24th.

Just when you thought the streets were safe, Tyler Perry decided to write another Madea movie. This time Perry cast Romeo Miller as the lead in Madea’s Witness Protection. Miller confirmed the news on his Twitter page: “Got offered the lead n Tyler Perry’s next movie. This should be fun ha…”

Romeo joins the cast that features Eugene Levy, Denise Richards, and Tyler Perry. Shooting starts next week in Atlanta.

(via TMZ) Fact is indeed stranger than fiction. Shamont Lyle Sapp–a prisoner serving time in Oklahoma for 10 bank robberies–has filed a lawsuit against Jamie Foxx and Tyler Perry claiming that he gave them the idea for “Skank Robbers” but was cut out of the project. According to court documents, Sapp says he came up with the idea to reunite Sheneneh (Martin Lawrence), Wanda (Foxx) and Madea (Perry) into one movie. But Sapp’s original concept wasn’t a bank robbery. Sapp’s plot line goes as follows:

“A male white mental patient takes Madea hostage … He deals with phone calls from the negotiators, as Madea actually pleads for her life in a very sad tear-jerking way … Her pleas are to be very sad. No jokes at all.”

Foxx and Martin did “Skank Robbers” skit for the 2009 BET Awards, a month before Sapp claims to have pitched his idea.

Sapp is demanding $1 million each from Perry and Foxx. Doesn’t sound like this lawsuit will go very far. What say you readers?

Wesley’s world is turned upside down when he meets Lindsey (Thandie Newton), a down-on-her-luck single mother who works on the cleaning crew in his office building. Wesley offers to help Lindsey, and soon sees his world and heart open to new possibilities. The cast includes Phylicia Rashad as matriarch Wilimena Deeds, Beverly Johnson, Rebecca Romijn (X-Men), Brian White, and Eddie Cibrian.

After weeks of fans protesting the casting of Kim Kardashian in The Marriage Counselor, director Tyler Perry defended his actions in an open letter on his website. It seems Perry believes that Kim K. is a role model to millions of her followers, and casting her in his film would be the ideal way to bring them to Jesus see his movie. Below is an excerpt explaining the reasons behind hiring Kardashian:

“About two months ago, long before I even heard about Kim’s marriage or divorce, I was trying to finish up the casting. I said to one of my producers, “who else is out there that young people are looking up to?” One of my producers showed me pictures that his daughter had taken of several hundred kids lined up around the corner to get into a Kardashian store. They wanted to meet Kim. I thought, what better person! She literally has millions of young people following her. I thought and still do think, that it would be very responsible of her to be a part of this film. To have the young people that look up to her, see her in a film that is about, what happens in life when you make the wrong choices.”

Everyone’s favorite dysfunctional couple is back in Tyler Perry’s new sitcom “For Better Or Worse.” Based on characters from the 2007 film Why Did I Get Married?, the show revolves around Angela (Tasha Smith) and Marcus (Michael Jai White) who give new meaning to the saying “Love hurts.” Adding conflict is Marcus’ bitter ex-girlfriend (and baby mama) Keisha, who is hell bent on splitting up Angela and Marcus, and will use any means necessary to do so.

Kim Kardashian‘s marriage may or may not be in trouble, but her acting career has been elevated now that she’ll be co-starring in the new Tyler Perry film The Marriage Counselor. She delivered her good news via Twitter on the night of her 31st birthday (October 21st), and they’ll begin shooting the movie on October 26th in Atlanta.

Comedian and actor Chris Rock gets “reel” in the latest issue of Vibe magazine. The Hollywood themed issue covers a variety of topics and in the interview with Rock they asked about the trend of Black comedians having to wear dresses.

“I mean, hey, lots of comedians dress up like women, not just Black. It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book. Men in drag…There was Mrs. Doubtfire. [Adam] Sandler’s next movies is Jack and Jill. He plays his brother and sister. [The Black community] doesn’t have that many movies, so if there’s only four Black movies in a year and two of them star Black men in dresses, I could see how that would upset some people. But that’s a job for some people. Tyler Perry is great in a dress, but I don’t want to see Denzel or Will Smith in a dress. And I don’t think we’re in any danger of seeing that.”

Mr. Tyler Perry can’t seem to catch a break these days. First Mario Van Peebles took a sideways shot at him (and other Black men wearing dresses in films) at this year’s Urbanworld Film festival and now author Touré has gone for his pearl necklace-adorned jugular.

Touré debated the merits of Perry’s films with Newsone contributor Dr. Boyce Watkins, who argued that the “Madea” franchise has helped put people to work. Touré countered that drug dealers create jobs too, but that doesn’t make them good jobs. Watch their discussion on CNN below.

The star wattage continued to shine brightly Friday night, as The Urbanworld Film Festival entered its second night. Director Mario Van Peebles, 50 Cent and Lynn Whitfield were on hand to promote their film “All Things Fall Apart.” 50 hit the red carpet with his own entourage of eye candy, posing for pics with the cast. Before the screening, Van Peebles assured the audience there would be no men in dresses or wigs in his movie.

Reality star Tami Roman was in attendance for the East Coast premiere of the short “The Tombs” which she produced with filmmaker Jerry LaMothe. Victor Rasuk and Luiz Guzman of HBO’s How to Make it in America were also present for a screening of their hit show.

Additional attendees included poet Sonia Sanchez (Sonia Sanchez: Shake Loose Memories), film pioneer Melvin Van Peebles, Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, Stephen G. In an exclusive interview, Hollywood’s most powerful black director opens up about his past sexual abuse, his rivalry with fellow director Spike Lee, and his love life. Perry admits that in late 2010, he and his girlfriend experienced a pregnancy scare. Tyler reveals “Back in December, when we thought we were having a kid, I got a little overwhelmed…Now, I got overwhelmed when I first got a dog because I knew I was responsible for this living creature. So think how I reacted to the thought of having a child.”

Early poster art for Tyler Perry’s upcoming crime thriller I, Alex Cross has been posted on the QED International (the company producing the film) web page.

The synopsis for the film has also been revealed:

“Crusading Detective/Psychologist ALEX CROSS (Tyler Perry) meets his match against the psychotic, mob hit man, MICHAEL SULLIVAN aka THE BUTCHER. As Cross investigates the hit man’s gruesome murders, Sullivan decides to send him a deadly message by murdering his wife in cold blood. Now enraged, Cross vows to hunt down the killer if it’s the last thing he does. However, Sullivan is a serial killing mastermind and continues to evade Cross while pushing him to an ethical breaking point as a cop and father. As Cross closes in on the killer, he discovers evidence that points to the unimaginable—a revelation that could change everything. With unstoppable action, and unforeseeable twists, this suspenseful action thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat.”

Morgan Freeman previously played the brilliant detective in Kiss The Girls (1997) and Along Came a Spider (2001). Last summer, actor Idris Elba and director David Twohy (Pitch Black) were attached to revive the Alex Cross franchise, but due to creative differences with Paramount Studios Twohy opted out of the project, and Elba followed soon after. QED International bought the rights in early 2011, hired Rob Cohen (XXX) as the new director and cast Perry in the title role. But all’s well that ends well; Twohy is re-teaming with Vin Diesel for a third Riddick movie, and Elba has his plate full with the second season of “LUTHER”, a featured role in this spring’s blockbuster Thor, and is currently filming Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus. Elba has also been cast as the lead in Guillermo Del Toro’s sci-fi flick Pacific Rim .

I, Alex Cross starts filming in Cleveland, OH this August and is slated for a 2012 release.

My, how they grow up so quickly! It seems like just yesterday little China Anne McClain made her big screen debut as one of Idris Elba’s adorable little munchkins on Daddy’s Little Girls. After almost seven seasons as sassy busybody Jazmine on Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne”, China Anne is headlining her own sitcom on Disney’s “A.N.T. Farm.” She plays Chyna Parks, an 11 year old musical prodigy who plays 13 instruments, and is recruited into the A.N.T. (Advanced Natural Talents) program at her older brother’s high school.

“A.N.T. Farm” premieres on the Disney Channel Friday June 17^th 8:30 P.M./7:30c

Tyler Perry was the latest victim of the South Park creators animated snarkfest. In the episode entitled “FunnyBot” the boys host their towns very first annual Comedy Awards. Perry is presented with the Kathy Griffin Award, which is given to the person most likely to show up and accept such a lame prize. Throughout the episode Perry is showered with tithes from the shows only Black character, Token. The jokes didn’t come close to the lashing Perry took from Aaron McGruder on The Boondocks last year, but at least they didn’t call him a gay fish.

Tyler Perry may be a cross-dresser but he makes very good points about the state of the black race in general and in film. Dr. Cornel West has been making news lately for his heated dialogue with Al Sharpton over President Obama. The renowned scholar has never been one to hold his tongue and it was no different at a recent lecture at UCLA. Actor, comedian and writer Travon Free attended the lecture and posted some video on his blog FreedomOfSpeech.

“Yesterday I had the privilege of listening to the amazing and brilliantly insightful Dr. Cornel West speak at UCLA with Carl Dix and it was nothing short of inspiring. Given the title of the dual lecture, “In the Age of Obama, Police Terror, Incarceration, No Jobs and Mis-Education: What Future For our Youth?” it was not to be missed. Thanks to my sister being a student I didn’t miss out on such a great experience both as a man and as a black man and it was free. Nothing better than free right?”

Tyler Perry’s “House Of Payne” Canceled After 5 Years

Tyler Perry‘s TBS sitcom House Of Payne has been canceled after five years and seven seasons. The show will be replaced with Perry’s new series For Better Or Worse.

The news of the cancellation comes just a few days after For Better Or Worse was announced.

“Even though it will be sad to say goodbye to House of Payne, I’m really looking forward to exploring new territory with For Better or Worse,” Tyler Perry said in a statement. “Working on House of Payne taught me a lot about what it takes to make a successful television series and I’m looking forward to applying that experience to For Better or Worse.”

For Better For Worse is slated to feature two characters from Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married series of films, Marcus & Angela. There’s no official word yet on whether or not Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith will reprise their roles from the movies on the television series.

Blue Sky Studios’ animated film Rio holds on to the number one spot at the box office for a second straight week holding off Tyler Perry’s sixth film in the Madea series, Madea’s Big Happy Family. Rio pulled in an estimated $26.8 million.

Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family was expected rule the box office this weekend, and it came close, pulling in $25.8 million, just $1 million less than Rio. The film was expected to bring in at least $30 million. The last Madea film, 2009′s Madea Goes To Jail, pulled in $41 million during its opening weekend.

Tyler Perry stopped by Conan O’Brien‘s late night talk show last night and revealed that he was working on a brand new television show. The show is called For Better Or Worse.

Perry also revealed that the show will be based on couples from his Why Did I Get Married films.

The war of words between Spike Lee and Tyler Perry continues as Perry recently said at a press conference that “Spike can go straight to hell!” Lee has been a very vocal critic of Perry and his films.

“I’m so sick of hearing about damn Spike Lee,” Perry said during a press conference . “Spike can go straight to hell! You can print that. I am sick of him talking about me, I am sick of him saying, ‘this is a coon, this is a buffoon.’ I am sick of him talking about black people going to see movies. This is what he said: ‘you vote by what you see,’ as if black people don’t know what they want to see.”

“Each artist should be allowed to pursue their artistic endeavors, but I still think there is a lot of stuff out today that is coonery and buffoonery,” Lee said in 2009. “I know it’s making a lot of money and breaking records, but we can do better. … I am a huge basketball fan, and when I watch the games on TNT, I see these two ads for these two shows (Tyler Perry’s ‘Meet the Browns’ and ‘House of Payne’), and I am scratching my head. We got a black president, and we going back to Mantan Moreland and Sleep ‘n’ Eat?”

Tyler Perry’s new film, Madea’s Big Happy Family, is in theaters this Friday.
