The fifth Fast and the Furious series titled “Fast Five” is set to hit theaters this Friday. “I don’t know how it was possible but I ended up shooting Fast 5 and Transformers at the same time, over the course of six and a half months. Plus writing my book and finished it. 5 hour energy drinks saved my life.”

The California native reprises his role as Roman Pierce, a charismatic street racer and car thief who is best friends with Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor. Gibson first took on the roll in 2003′s 2 Fast 2 Furious and is happy to be back in the mix.

“Paul walker, he’s the most loyal dude ever. He literally fought to get me back in the franchise,” Tyrese says of his co-star and close friend. “I was supposed to be in 4, at the end to try and help pull Dom out of the bus. But it didn’t work out.”

Roman makes a return just in time as Dominic (played by Vin Diesel) and the crew get together to pull off one last big job. The stakes are higher than ever as pride and pink slips take a back seat to millions of dollars and the possibility of a life behind bars. Their adventure takes the team way south of the border to Brazil to take on the most feared drug lord in the country. While they only shot in Brazil for about a month Tyrese had more than enough time to take in the sites.

“Brazil is a place where every man who’s single can have the time of their life,” he says. “I consider Brazil “man’s heaven.” It’s a beautiful country with beautiful people. I haven’t seen a woman whose outta shape. The thing is we only shot in Brazil for six days. The preparation in Brazil was about like a month. But we mainly shot in Puerto Rico and then we moved on to Atlanta. If you know there’s a bunch of interior shots inside of a factory, that’s Atlanta. So I guess it’s the film makers job to make it look like were in Brazil the whole time.”

In an industry where everyone is multitasking it’s not surprising that Tyrese was working on his latest album, Open Invitation, while filming Fast Five. However, don’t expect any slow jam cutaways of Tyrese and a hot model on the hood of a sports car during your top 10 video countdown show anytime soon.

“I’m like a mad scientist when it comes to music and my new album is way too special to take advantage of these soundtrack opportunities,” he says. ” There is nothing like doing a song and video on someone else’s expense, but I still feel that I have the shovel in my hand right now and I’m still digging to discover the musical Tyrese.”

What Gibson is not afraid to plug is his new book, “How To Get Out of Your Own Way”. The gripping memoir, inspired by his popular bog piece “The Love Circle,” has received high praise from Rev Run, Will Smith and Deepak Chopra.

“Nothing has moved me in ten years like how writing this book has,” says Gibson. “I go into great detail about about things I was exposed to. I was born in Martin Luther King Hospital in 1978 and look at me now. I deal with politics, racism, people that just decide to judge you for who you are regardless of what you can do. I didn’t write a book, I wrote life.”

Right now the only thing that seems to be in Tyrese’s way is a full night’s sleep. Whether he’s drag-racing police cars in down town Rio or fighting aliens with robots in disguise you can always find him behind the wheel heading to that next opportunity. Make sure to catch him in his waking life in Fast Five this weekend opening in theaters everywhere.

Michael Bay may be mad that the press is lampooning his highly touted sequel, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, but the press is steaming mad that with Obama in office, racism emotes out of the IMAX screen in full force.

Why?

Maybe it’s because Bay and company are closet blackophobes. Upon seeing Transformers 2, Tyrese Gibson – a true herb – managed to have nine spoken lines in the full two-and-a-half hour runtime. The dynamic duo of Mudflap and Skids (pictured above) have eclipsed Jar Jar Binks as the most offensive stereotype by a CGI character.

Racist overtones aside, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen finds Shia Lebeouf trying to find a sense of normalcy in the midst of a mechanic civil war between the Autobots and the Decepticons. College bound Sam Whitwicky (Lebeouf) has put the past events of the first movie behind him and is looking to live a normal life.

His girlfriend played by the smoking hot, Megan Fox, is left behind, as well as his “guardian” – Bumblebee. But the past comes back to haunt the present and the Whitwicky family, the Autobots and Earth cannot escape their fate.

Fate is represented as “The Fallen,” this Transformer pre-dates the Autobots and Decepticons and looks to regain his place amongst the top of the top. Standing in his way is Optimus Prime and his band of metallic warriors. The film itself is visually appeasing with its IMAX screening being one of the most detailed spectacles to date. The plot – surrounding itself around events that took place before the first movie – is vague and takes a backseat to the fighting and car chases that Michael Bay is mostly known for.

The runtime for the movie puts the breaks on what should’ve been a faster paced movie. Lengthy lulls full of wordy exchanges between Prime and Sam don’t put too much of a dent in the action (which there is a lot of) leaving audiences with the typical “get-ready-for-Transformers 3″ ending.

Transformers 2 gets points for increasing the detail of the machines, but if I can be facetious here, the word is “transform,” right? So, why don’t they spend time doing such? I don’t know. Maybe the audience would be bored to have to see them in disguise during some scenes.

All in all, Michael Bay’s sequel is going to be a cash cow, even threatening the crown currently held by The Dark Knight, but will the racist overtones stop audiences from spending their money on something that’s insulting like this:

Friday The 13th:

Back in August of ’08, it was reported that the mystery car that was spotted on the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen set was GM’s Corvette Centennial Design Concept. A month later, reports said that the car will be the Autobot Sideswipe, who was a Lamborghini in the original cartoons. Now, a user at TF08.net has posted a photo of Hasbro’s figure that gives you a good look at what the robot will look like in Michael Bay’s film, opening in conventional and IMAX theaters on June 26.

Yahoo! Movies has debuted the new poster for Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, opening in conventional theaters and IMAX on June 26. The anticipated sequel stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, John Benjamin Hickey, Ramon Rodriguez, Isabel Lucas and John Turturro.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen director Michael Bay has posted an update on his official forum:

Hey everyone. Back from Egypt and Jordan – we had a wonderful shoot over there. I will miss the crew they were an amazing bunch of people and a lot of fun.

“I’m stuck in the edit room up to my eye balls – also finished producing Friday the 13th and The Unborn – coming out the after the new year. Our Trailer for Transformer you have been asking about – First there will be a teaser poster soon after the new year, and the teaser trailer will be out either in the theaters early Feb. or on the Superbowl. Cannot decide yet. I’m going to release some set stills on this site in a few weeks. I’ll keep you informed. Going back to do more selects now from my portable avid that I take home from work. It’s late, see you.”

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hits conventional theaters and IMAX on June 26.

LaBeouf will play a student who’s about to graduate from Yale Law School when he’s manipulated into accepting a job at a prestige law firm and given privileged information about a multibillion-dollar lawsuit.

The novel, Grisham’s first legal thriller since 2005′s “The Broker,” will be published in January by Random House.

Grisham’s longtime rep, David Gernert, shopped the book by giving it to four producers. While some felt that lessened the book’s chances to find a suitor in a tight marketplace, the strategy worked.

Par-based Di Bonaventura, who as an exec worked on the Grisham films A Time to Kill and The Client, received the book in the Middle East, where he and LaBeouf were shooting “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” There, they agreed to do it together.

Deal gives Paramount another LaBeouf vehicle to follow the Transformers films, on which the studio partners with DreamWorks. He last starred for the studio in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

“It was a situation that changed my life forever,” she told the TV program. “I will never be the same. It was pretty bad. There were parts flying and there was a bunch of smoke.”

Brandy was behind the wheel of her Land Rover in Los Angeles when she crashed into another vehicle on a busy freeway, triggering a chain reaction that caused another driver to hit the central partition. The driver, Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, died from her injuries.

Brandy says she felt hurt when people blamed her for the death of an innocent driver.

“I just feel like a lot of people jumped on it because it was something to talk about. And instead of just waiting to see what really happened, they kind of make their own story about it and started pointing the finger and blaming,” she said.

Brandy is now facing a $50 million lawsuit for wrongful death by Aboudihaj’s family. The trial is set for April 2009.

Meanwhile, recent photos of Tyrese attempting to foil paparazzi by distancing himself from Brandy as they left a Los Angeles mall together has spawned rumors that the two are secretly dating. Not true, Tyrese tells Usmagazine.com.

“Brandy and I have been the best of friends since we were 14 years old. She’s one of the most talented friends I have,” said Tyrese. “I would never date her – it would be like dating my sister.“

“It was a simple lunch amongst friends,” adds the singer, who is married. “I love her like family but the rumors of us dating are really old.”

In the new issue of Us Weekly (out Friday), Brandy also maintains she is single. “I haven’t dated anybody in three years,” says the singer, whose new album, “Human” drops Dec. 9.

Most recently, Max Ryan has had his share of fantastic escapades as the dementedly devilish Pachenko in Paul W.S. Anderson’s reimagining of Death Race. After his first appearance in Luc Besson’s Kiss of the Dragon, Ryan has continued crafting himself into a leading man. His upcoming star turn in Four Years Running will convince you that he’s more than just a bad boy with an attitude. With so much anger being presented on screen, a humble and modest version of the celluloid sociopath sits down with The Urban Daily to dish the behind-the-scenes on Death Race, why Tyrese is not a diva (contrary to popular belief) and who would win in a battle royal between him, Black Ty and Jason Statham.

The Urban Daily: For those who aren’t familiar with you, Max – how did you get your start in acting?

Max Ryan: The first movie that I actually did was Kiss of the Dragon that starred Jet Li. It was a Luc Besson movie and we filmed primarily in Paris. Bridget Fonda was in it, as well as, Tch�ky Karyo and I played Bridget’s pimp. I was a middle-level nemesis to Jet Li before his fight against the big boss and that kind of started my acting career off.

TUD: Do you like playing villains and bad guys?

MR: I don’t really look for the bad guy roles. It’s just that when you’re an up-and-coming actor and you want that leading man role, you gotta start somewhere. The roles that I’ve had, I’ve really enjoyed playing them and made the most out of the characters that I’ve made and performed as. It’s with the help of the director, the costumes and the places that you go to to film these movies. They add an underlining effect to your personality and the characters around me.

TUD: You were quite the adventurer growing up, I heard… You jumped off a balcony and fell three stories as a child? Was this the start of your love of action?

MR: I was about 25-years-old when that happened [laughs]. Two of my parent’s friend’s children were being savaged by this Alaskan dog and I saved the girls from it. I don’t know about a “love of action,” but I know that I don’t look for trouble… it just has a way of finding me [laughs]. I do my best to stay away from it, let’s put it that way.

TUD: Trouble happens to find you, but your outspokenness as a child got you in a lot of trouble when you were in school. Has that same outspokenness got you in hot water on the set of Death Race?

MR: No, because I’ve grown up now [laughs] and things have changed in my life. This is a business that I’m in, you know…? You have to be aware that this is a different world. Being in school as a young boy and getting into trouble got me punished. But… I was just a child and that’s a different world than Hollywood. It’s a million dollar movie set and a lot of things can go wrong on it if you’re not careful or professional. When you’re working and doing stunts and fight scenes, you have to really focus all your energies into that moment to make sure that no one gets hurt. You make the moves great and then they sell the film…

TUD: On this million dollar set you were just on, did Tyrese get all diva-like while you guys were working?MR: [Laughs] A diva…? No! Tyrese Gibson is a phenomenal man. He is an amazing guy. Over the course of the filming, we became very good friends. I have nothing but great things to say about him. He was great in Death Race. He was nothing but a gentleman and throughout the course of filming, he was my neighbor, so we always had fun together. I can’t say enough about him. In fact, I’m seeing him for lunch today, but [laughs] I’ll send him your sentiments, Kevin [laughs]…

TUD: …Please do… [laughs]

MR: Both the guys were good. Jason [Statham] was phenomenal as well. He was truly a professional. All the cast were great from the extras to the crew. Everybody did their share of work on this film because it was a big movie and we had a lot of work to do and a lot of fllm to shoot. In the end, the movie speaks for itself. I’ve seen it in the cinema a few times and it’s good to see how much people are just loving this movie!

TUD: Everyone had to train to drive those cars, but you and Jason are really learned behind the wheel. Were there any tricks you guys traded that you wanted to try with your own car?

MR: None whatsoever. Everybody was doing their own thing, you know…? I’m accomplished in driving and I used to race bikes. I’ve always been into that stuff. In the end, you either can drive or you can’t. It’s one of those things. You’re never taught how to drive a car right; you just have to have it. Knowledge of the laws of physics or something like that [laughs]…

TUD: The races were really exciting, but so were the exchanges between your character “Pachenko” and Jason’s character. Was there any “anger” left over once the director said, “Cut“…? Any fights?

MR: You know… all of a sudden, once you’ve shot the scene that’s been that intense, there’s a moment where you gotta just chill and be in your own headspace. After everything’s done, you’re the best of buddies. In fact, it brings you even closer than before. You have to be strong with each other because you have to know what you’re doing with each other’s moves. It’s like when punches have been thrown, missing your mark could mean hurting the other person. It’s not a game. You’re throwing punches and you’re socking back, but you’re that close to people and people can get hurt. Let’s not kid ourselves here, movies are becoming more intense, fight scenes are becoming more aggressive and the more hours you’ve worked the more you’re able to get stressed. You’ve got to be on your game all the time, you know…?

TUD: Yeah, I heard what happened between James Franco and Tyrese on the set of Annapolis. When the director yells, “Cut,” does that friction really end that quick?

MR: No… There were no fights behind the scenes [laughs]… unfortunately [laughs]. Everything in the end was cool, though.

TUD: So, you’re this cool kid from the other side of the pond and you’ve never been to prison, right?

MR: No… That was my first time [laughs]!

TUD: Can you talk about your next project – Four Years Running…?

MR: Yeah! Wow! It’s a first time writer/director’s project and I had filmed this movie some time ago. It’s a very exciting project because it’s not an action movie per se. It’s more of a drama piece. It’s very thought-provoking and the story was shot in middle America. Four Years Running is all about the acting and not that much about the action. It’s a completely different situation and I’m looking forward for this movie to come out!

TUD: You’re the lead this go-’round, right?

MR: Yes!

TUD: Can you talk about the plot for the people?

MR: I play a car mechanic and I do deliveries for the local mob. My girlfriend in the movie works in a strip club. This cop accidentally kills her and the mob gets involved somehow. It’s kind of like The Usual Suspects. People start to go missing and my character is charged with having to find certain people who have killed the people he’s close to. It’s a very good film and I don’t want to say too much more about it and give away stuff. It’s in post-production now and I’d just like people to not have any preconceptions. I’d like for them to see it and enjoy themselves.

TUD: Your character, “Pachenko,” seemed like such a badass, but you’re this mellow cat… So, who would win in a fight between your character, Jason’s “Frank Martin” (The Transporter) and Tyrese’s “Luke Cage” character?

MR: Great question! You know I’m a mellow guy [laughs]. I’m creating characters. I think that Pachenko is a very intense guy. That’s how he comes across. He’s a little bit mad in the brain. But as far as a fight, though, hmm… I don’t know. Get us three together and maybe see who throws his should out [laughs]! Tyrese and Jason are fit and really big guys, so it’d end up being a huge battle. With three bulldogs that aren’t going to lie down, it would be funny… as long as we can shake hands afterwards and say, “It’s cool,” then I’m happy. Pachenko is the most intense character of all my movies to date. I’ve got some other characters that will surpass what I’ve done in this movie. It’s going to be interesting to say the least. It’s gonna take some work though. I’m developing this character for a big movie that’s coming out this year. I’m training for this character. I have a lot of thinking to do to make my character stronger, believable and super-intellectual, too!

Max Ryan currently stars in Paul W.S. Anderson’s Death Race, which is in theaters now!

For those who aren’t familiar with the 1975 drive-in classic Death Race 2000, Roger Corman and Paul Bartel’s campy film starring David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone,was a hit amongst the groovy guys and gals back in the day, but Stallone and Carradine are both probably rolling around in their graves, right now… (Oh, wait… they’re not dead?) Well, at least the satire and campiness that was found in the original was toned down in favor of badassness. Starring Jason Statham as Jensen Ames, he’s framed for murdering his wife and sent to Terminal Island where prisoners must compete in the brutal extreme sport known as “Death Race.”

Hoping to answer why his wife was killed, Ames’ only chance at freedom is in the form of the warden, Hennessey (Joan Allen). The ice queen tells him that he must take the identity of popular masked champion “Frankenstein,” who was supposedly killed by arch-rival, Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson), but had won four out of the five races needed for a pardon. With a too-hot-for-prison navigator (Natalie Martinez) and an old-time penitentiary sage (Ian McShane), Ames aims for the fences.

Unfortunately, Anderson and company get called out on a double-play. The plot set-up for Death Race leaves huge plot-holes that would stall even the most ardent adrenaline junkie. Why even kill Ames wife? How did the prisoners/racers never realize that the game was fixed? With distractingly sloppy parts, the key entertainment factor is the races. The good thing is that it’s not Speed Racer on acid and seeing stars, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson embark on these races are met with some degree of difficulty. But with too many cut-aways, Death Race seems like it only does a few laps. Although it’s fun to see the blood, guts and gruesome crashes, Statham and Gibson both play typecast roles from The Bank Job and 2 Fast 2 Furious, respectively.

Allen and McShane also phone-in their performances, but Joan’s penchant for delivering diabolical lines with an unique kind of naughty “wink, wink” is ideally worth it. Yet, in the end, Death Race is murder for the viewer and cast alike. Director Paul W.S. Anderson will more than likely have stiff competition for “Worst Remake Or Rip-Off,”going against I Know Who Killed Me at this year’s Razzie Awards.
