Jean said he was in a car with a driver in the Delmas section of the capital at the time. He doesn’t know who fired the shots, or whether they were directed at him, the 37-year-old Grammy winner said.

Cops down-played the violence, and say the New Jersey resident – a Haitian-American who hoped to compete in the Caribbean nation’s ongoing presidential race – suffered only a minor cut to his hand from glass in an apparent accident.

“We met with the doctor who saw him and he confirmed Wyclef was cut by glass,” Vanel Lacroix, police chief in Petionville where Jean is staying, told Reuters.

Are the cops trying to cover up something or is Wyclef trying to get some publicity?

“They were passing through Delmas #65 in Port-au-Prince when reportedly a hail of gunfire rang out and was fired into the vehicle, resulting in Wyclef being shot in the hand. No one else was injured.”

There is no report about the severity of the injury to Wyclef’s right hand, which he plays guitar with.

Wyclef & Sean Penn End Feud At Concert [VIDEO]

Wyclef Says Fugees Are “Not Meant To Be”

The feud began last summer when Jean announced his intent to run for president of Haiti.  Penn, who spent a lot of time in Haiti following the devastating earthquake that struck the country last January, voiced his doubt that Jean could effectively lead the country. Jean struck back at a concert in New York City claiming that Penn was a cocaine addict.

Upon seeing each other, Wyclef and Sean locked themselves in a dressing room for 30 minutes in order to talk through their differences.  In a show of solidarity later that night, the two Haiti activists endorsed Haitian presidential candidate Michel Martelly, who was also in attendance.

As The Fugees, the group put out two albums, including The Score, which has sold over 20 million records worldwide. They broke up in 1997 for successful solo careers and re-united briefly in 2004.

“When it comes to Lauryn and Pras, it’s my childhood, they always bring me to that place,” Wyclef told the BBC. “At the end of the day Pras is my brother and Lauryn is my sister, despite what the media say. The Fugees are not meant to be. We’re rock stars from a locked group. You’re going to have egos and differences but at the end of the day I love them both very much.”

According to reports, 12 of the 19 candidates running for President of Haiti have called for the election to be suspended because scores of people were not allowed to vote, massive fraud and/or voter intimidation.

“This is not democracy this is Dictatorship under the Facade of Democracy!” Wyclef Jean tweeted. “But the Haitian people will not be intimidated we want to vote!”

Earlier this evening, the candidates issued a joint statement condemning the government and Haiti’s electoral board, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

“It is clear that [current president Rene] Preval and the CEP were not prepared for elections,” said candidate Anne Marie Josette Bijou as the crowd chanted “arrest Preval!”

“I’m doing fine, just over worked. I Thank every one for their outreach and prayers,” Wyclef Jean told AllHipHop.com in an exclusive statement.

A representative for Wyclef Jean said that the rapper suffered from stress due to lack of sleep, from a hectic travel schedule.

“Wyclef is currently suffering the effects of lack of sleep and stress, global travel, even the endless public eye, and has asked that his fans and supporters bear with him for the next several days as he regains his physical health and stamina,” a rep said in a statement.

Sources tell AFaceAFace.org, a movement for Haitian youth and activists, that Jean was hospitalized for stress and fatigue. The organization posted the information on Twitter, and it was reposted on Wyclef’s official Twitter account.

Wyclef announced last week that he was abandoning his campaign to become president of Haiti.

Jimmy Henchman is nobody’s snitch. At least that’s what his friends say.

A number of music industry executives have come out in support of manager James Rosemond, after an article in the New York Daily News ran today (September 13th), accusing him of cooperating with the government in a variety of cases.
The New York Daily News reported that Rosemond served as an informant in at least three cases since the mid-1990′s including one, in which he received leniency for a Los Angeles gun case.

“The article in today’s New York Daily News about Jimmy Rosemond is nothing short of a targeted assassination attempt by the government, with an assist from their favorite daily newspaper,” Lichtman told AllHipHop.com in a statement.

“Due to the government’s inability to convict Jimmy in a court of law, they have stooped to trying to get him lynched in the street,” Lichtman fumed. “We are weighing our legal options at this time but we can say in no uncertain terms: Jimmy is not and has never cooperated with law enforcement.  If you noticed the article never stated one named person that Mr. Rosemond allegedly informed upon. Any suggestion otherwise is a damnable, actionable lie.”

Wyclef Jean, former Haitian president hopeful, has sent a shot to detractors actor Sean Pen and former band mate Pras.
The multifaceted musician performed at Hot 97′s On Da Reggae Tip concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.

He sang, “If I was president….I got a message for Sean Penn, maybe he ain’t see me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine. I got a message for Praswell, even though you don’t want to support me, I got love for you, even though you only kicked eight bars for the Fugee.”

Both Penn and Pras, who was in The Fugees with Wyclef, were critical of the rapper after he announced his bid for as president of Haiti.

Wyclef Jean’s name has not been included on a list of approved presidential candidates for his native Haiti.
The entertainer-turned-politician sought to run for presidency and announced with much international fanfare. Jean needed to prove that he was a resident of Haiti, one of the requirements for the high office of the embattled land.

A list was released today and it included dozens of candidates, but not Jean says news service Reuters.

Wyclef Jean’s road to the Haitian presidency has been rocky, to say the least.

Wyclef’s desire to be president of his homeland has caused the rapper to go into hiding.

In a series of emails exchanged with the Associated Press, the rapper says that he’s been receiving death threats, including one that warned the rapper that he should leave the country immediately.

Haiti’s electoral commission has also not decided whether or not they will let the rapper run, as the country has a requirement that the president live in the country for five consecutive years prior to an election. Wyclef was born in Haiti and holds a Haitian passport, but grew up in the United States and has lived there ever since.  He was appointed as “roving ambassador” of Haiti in 2007, which Wyclef says should exempt him from the residency rule.

Wyclef Jean has been publicly criticized for his presidential aspirations in Haiti and fellow Fugee Pras has been one of the loudest voices. Both men are natives of Haiti, but Pras says Wyclef doesn’t have a plan that properly address the enormous needs of the disenfranchised nation. “You’ve got 1.2 million people living in tent city right now. What are the plans to get these people out,” Pras said of the survivors of a January that devastated the already impoverished nation. Pras is supporting the presidential bid of Michel Martelly, who announced his bid on Thursday.

In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Wyclef’s Presidential rival Michel Martelly also questioned the rapper’s ability to help Haiti recover from a devastating earthquake in January, which killed 250,000 people and displaced another 1.5 million.

Former Fugee group member Pras Michel is backing Martelly in his run against Wyclef Jean for President of Haiti.

Martelly, who is also an award-winning Haitian musician, first became familiar with The Fugees after the release of their hit 1996 album The Score.

According to Martelly, he has been a very close friendship with Wyclef and the rapper’s family for years and his son even attended the Fugees reunion concert in 2006 in California.

However, Martelly questioned Wyclef’s ability to really lead the country.

“I know that Clef is well intentioned. But, I believe that not having been raised here, not being familiar with any neighborhood – because I don’t think Clef can drive anywhere here on his own – he can’t speak the languages, I agree that those are handicaps, Martelly told AllHipHop.com in an exclusive interview. “I’m not saying that he couldn’t surprise the world and be a good president. I cannot say that; I would be speculating. I’d be speculating if I said he couldn’t deliver. But there are things about him that raise concerns for us here in Haiti. Because he doesn’t know the country. He doesn’t know who are proper political allies, who he can trust. He doesn’t know our culture, he doesn’t know our way of life, he doesn’t know what we expect. He doesn’t know our needs. He doesn’t realize that some people may never truly accept him.”

Wyclef Jean has officially stepped down as the head of his non-profit organization Yéle Haiti, as he prepares to run for President of Haiti.

According to reports, Derek Q. Johnson will take over Jean’s role at Yéle Haiti, which raised almost $10 million dollars for victims of an earthquake that leveled the city of Port-Au-Prince and left some 250,000 residents dead and another 3 million displaced.

Derek Q. Johnson is known for his work in revitalizing the Apollo Theater in Harlem.

“For the past five years, Yéle has been a huge part of life for me, my wife, Claudinette, and the rest of our family, and I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish for the country and people we love,” Wyclef Jean, 37,  said in a statement. “I have learned many important lessons from my experience with Yéle, most notably the incredible power of individuals united by a sense of purpose and community.”

Hip-Hop star Wyclef Jean will announce his bid for the President of Haiti, a source has confirmed with AllHipHop.com exclusively.
Sources close to Wyclef confirmed with AllHipHop.com that the rapper will announce his bid for the country’s highest office next Thursday, on August 5th.

The 37-year-old was born in Haiti, but immigrated to the United States at the age of 9-years-old, when he landed in Brooklyn, before settling in South Orange, New Jersey.

The rapper sprung into action on January 12th, when his native land was leveled by a 7.0 earthquake that left 300,000 people dead over a million others displaced.

The rapper will make his official announcement just two days prior to the country’s August 7th deadline to submit his plan for running for President.

Analysts are predicting that Wyclef Jean will easily win the race with his financial connections, influence among the Haitian youth and his political influence around the world.

Jean, who maintained his status as a citizen of Haiti, was in the country yesterday, where he was preparing for his upcoming campaign.

Elections are slated for November 28th.

Wyclef Jean is mulling over a career change.

“I can’t sing forever,” the Fugees star told CNN after a published report from Canadian publican Le Droit said that ‘Clef was considering a career in politics.

‘Clef says he’s filled out the proper paperwork in case he decides to go through with it, but he says he’s still thinking it over.

“Wyclef’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward,” said a statement released by his foundation.  “At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president. If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately.  Please let us know if we can help with anything else.”

Music and movies have always gone together.  Musicals have been popular films since the golden era of Hollywood.  Back in the day, it was almost required that film stars be able to sing just as well as they could act.

Sadly, the marriage between music and movies hasn’t been entirely blissful, especially when hip-hop is added into the equation.  Over the years many films have been made with hip-hop culture at the focal point, or with rappers in starring roles, few of them worth the celluloid they were filmed on.

Here’s a look at some of the worst hip-hop films that we’ve seen starring rappers ternt actors.

Belly (1998)

This Hype Williams directed movie has only one saving grace: the work of its cinematographer, Malik Sayeed.  Belly is a beautiful film to look at, but Williams uses every music video cliché possible and fails to provide an interesting story, or even a cast (Nas, DMX, Method Man, T-Boz from TLC) capable of making the film bearable to watch. After the nearly perfect intro sequence, the movie spirals out of control.  Fortunately for movie-goers, Hype hasn’t directed a feature length film since this one.  A sequel of sorts was released straight-to-DVD in 2008 and starred The Game but I didn’t even bother to watch it. I’m sure it’s worthy of a spot on this list as well.

State Property 2 (2005)

State Property 2 had a whole bunch of cameos and no plot whatsoever. How in the hell did Beanie Sigel get out of jail after shooting up the courtroom in the first place? Dame Dash tries to make an overblown Rocafella ad with all of the artists on the label without thinking of any character development or plot or acting. On the flipside, Noreaga is amusing as El Pollo Loco.

SP2 is also notable for it’s liberal usage of the F word, as evidenced in this below highlight reel from the film

Before I Self Destruct (2009)

It’s a film starring 50 Cent. Need I say more? Curtis stars in this film as a young guy who wants a basketball career, but after his mother is killed, he’s hellbent on revenge.  This waste of time was packaged with 50′s album of the same name, and features one of the most ridiculous sex scenes ever filmed.

Full Clip (2004)

Busta Rhymes stars in this loose reworking of the 1970s film Bucktown as Pope who returns to his hometown to claim an inheritance left by his father.  Pope finds that the town in a much different state than when he left and he partners up with his old friend Duncan (Xzibit) to reclaim the town.  Wyclef appears in the film as the narrator of the story who you want to empty a full clip on by the time the film reaches its halfway point.

Cool As Ice (1991)

Vanilla Ice stars in this film loosely based on the classic James Dean film Rebel Without A Cause. Ice was at the height of his popularity when this film dropped, and his status as every teenaged girl’s fantasy couldn’t save this movie from tanking. Lucky for us, Ice delivered one classic piece of dialogue that will forever live in infamy…

“Drop that zero and get with this hero!”

Rappin (1985)

As a kid, I made an ill-advised trip to the movie theater with my sisters to see this Mario Van Peebles movie that came out when movies like the Breakin’ franchise, Krush Groove, and Beat Street were all the rage. Ninety long minutes later, we emerged from the theater wanting our $2.50 back.  Rappin was a re-telling (notice a trend here?) of Robin Hood in which Mario Van Peebles starred as Rappin John Hood (get it?).  No words can explain just how bad this movie was, so peep the trailer:

With all of the direct-to-DVD hood flicks that being hawked at barbershops across the country, we’ve certainly missed a few of them.  Which ones would you put on your list???

Rapper Wyclef Jean returned from his native home of Haiti on a mission dear to his heart.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that Wyclef Jean arrived at JFK Airport in Queens, New York around 6:00 PM last night (April 22nd) with three very special guests.

Through his Yele Haiti non-profit, the rapper flew over three female victims of the massive 7.0 earthquake that destroyed Haiti’s capital city of Port-Au-Prince in January.

Yele Haiti will pay for all three of the girls to receive artificial limbs, a source confirmed with AllHipHop.com.

One girl is an eight-year-old, while the other two are 17-years of age.

Allen Counter stated. “He is admired worldwide for his humanitarian efforts on behalf of the people of Haiti.”

Wyclef’s personal assistant, Zakiya Khatou-Chevassus received a salary of $105,000 a year according to Yelé Haiti’s 2008 tax refund.

Gawker.com blew the lid off the story earlier today.

…The charity paid Khatou-Chevassus $105,000 as an independent contractor in 2008 for “program development.” That amounts to roughly one-third of all the money Yele spent that year on management and general expenses.

Khatou-Chevassus is currently listed on Yele’s web site as the organization’s vice president. But according to five sources familiar with Yele’s operations, in 2008 she served as Jean’s personal assistant—working on his commercial endeavors as well as his charitable ones—and was involved romantically with the former Fugees star.

“She worked for Wyclef on all Wyclef matters,” says one source who has worked with Jean in the past. “She did whatever Wyclef needed that day, whether it was related to Yele or not. She would do things like book flights, and she wasn’t very good at it. It’s a shame that she made that much money.” The source said Khatou-Chevassus’ salary amounted to more than three times what Suzie Sylvain, Yele Haiti’s dedicated program director who is credited by many Yele Haiti insiders with actually keeping the organization running, was paid.

On the heels of the release of Jay-Z’s “Death Of Autotune” rapper/producer Wyclef Jean and Nick Cannon have released “Mr. Autotune”.

At a time where autotune seems to be becoming less popular, “Mr. Autotune” pokes fun of the current music craze.

In the song Wyclef sings, “I’m Mister Autotune/ If you sing off key/ For a small fee I can make you a celebrity…Then all you gotta do is pay me/ And I will turn this thing into a karaoke party you’ll be a superstar.”

And Nick Cannon adds more comic value to the parodiable song with adlibs like “I wanna make money” and “Do I need singing lessons?”

Although Wyclef has been working on other artist’s albums recently he has not released a studio album since Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant which was released on December 4, 2007.
