The untimely death of young soul singer Amy Winehouse has prompted the concern for celebrities and their unhealthy drug habits. This isn’t the first time a celebrity has succumbed to the demons that plague his or her life.

We have seen it before with public icons like Heath Ledger who died after a lethal overdose of prescription medicines: Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Diazepam, Temazepam, Alprazolam and Doxylamine. Several entertainers have been arrested and penalized for their addictions and those who are lucky still have careers.

Drugs: Coedine, Cough Syrup, Promethazine, Marijuana
Lil’ Wayne’s famous Styrofoam chalice was alleged to be filled with codeine, promethazine and cough syrup which formed the mixture “Lean (purple drank).” In 2009 Wayne admitted to Katie Couric that he likes to recreation ally smoke Marijuana and that he was no longer addicted to “purple drank.”

Drugs: Crack, Marijuana
Whitney Houston aka “The Voice” seemed like she lost that god given vocal talent after openly admitting to smoking crack with Husband Bobby Brown through marijuana. Whitney has been in an out of rehab and was last noted as being admitted to out-patient treatment. Whitney revealed the extent of her and Bobby’s drug problems on a 2-day interview with Oprah where she said “I had so much money and so much access to what I wanted, I didn’t think about the singing part anymore. I was looking for my young womanhood.” Whitney says Bobby even spit in her face while under the influence while Bobbi Kristina watched!
Drug: Cocaine
A run-in with groupie extraordinaire Kat Stacks exposed Soulja Boy’s dangerous Coke Habit. Stacks secretly video-taped Soulja Boy Tell’ Em’s hotel room, where lines of Coccaine were on the dresser. Soulja Boy even admits to being warned by his father at an early age about drugs “My Dad was on me heavy about drugs. He found a little sack in my bedroom, but it wasn’t from drugs. They came from some earrings that I bought. He and my stepmother kept asking if I do drugs. So I finally just said, ‘Look, I rap. I’ma be a famous rapper. My name’s Soulja Boy.’ And started showing them everything I was doing on the Internet– my MySpace page and everything.” said Soulja Boy to SOHH.com

Slick’ Em was kicked out of group Pretty Ricky after video surfaced on WSHH of him snorting lines of coke in a Hotel room. Since, Slick Em’ has been rumored to be dating Keyshia Cole’s mother Frankie who also is a substance abuser.

Drug: Propofol
The King Of Pop, Michael Jackson, died on June 25, 2009 after a he was failed to be resuscitated due to going into cardiac arrest after a Propofol intoxication. The autopsy report suggested that Michael was killed by then doctor Conrad Murray who gave MJ the lethal doses of Midazolam, Diazepam, Lidocaine and Ephedrine. Michael’s death opened the flood gates to many problems he had been suffering from including: chronically inflamed lungs and that his arms and legs were covered with puncture wounds. Michael was also confirmed to be emaciated and weighed only 136 pounds at his time of death.

DMX was recently released from jail after serving a little over a year for violating his probation after using drugs. At one point DMX was once moved to the Mental Health unit of the Arizona State prison. Since his emergence in the late 90′s DMX has gone to jail seven times for drug related charges.

Bruno Mars was charged with felony drug possession after being caught with 2.6 grams of cocaine in a Hard Rock Cafe bathroom. The singer/song-writeravoided jail-time after a plea deal in February of 2011. He was slapped with a “deferred adjudication.” The charge would be taken off his record.
Lindsay Lohan Gets Tipsy On Tea

Hollywood starlet Lindsey Lohan was sentenced on June 6, 2010 to serve 90 days in jail after violating her probation after a DUI charge among other drug related charges. After only serving 14 days, the judge ordered Lindsay to go to inpatient rehab!. In an interview with The UK’s Sun Lindsey said this about her trouble with cocaine “I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad. I was terrified of it. But I tried it because I was stubborn, stupid, and wanted to see what it was like. It’s not something I ever want to do again. It made me feel like s***. It became uninteresting to me. I’m hyper anyway and I have that kind of personality so I don’t need something like that.”
