As proud Black man I do not advocate perms. I think it is a questionable reflection of a person’s self-image and understanding of their great unique African style. My wearing natty locks representes my culture and non-conformity.

At the same time, men & women have complete choice and control of what they wish to do with themselves, from hair to clothing. And some our greatest American artists wore permed styles, from Jimi to James to Prince to Sly to Andre-3000. I must note, the perm had NOTHING to do at all with their genius.

Who defines black? if a style looks good on you then get it, who cares what they say. I just recently had a perm last year and I got it because I was tired of braids and dreads I wanted a new look and honestly I had more black beautiful women than I ever had. The hair doesnt make the man the man makes the man and it sounds like most of the cats commenting have issues with their own self esteem.

how is it that these men can maintain their hair better than black women, today? Even that Antoine Dodson freak had better hair that most black chicks today. They have the same genetic hair types, so wtf is up with that?
