LOL at people defending Freaknic and this cartoon. Degradation, women being accosted and raped and above all a bunch of people who weren’t even in college bombarding the festivities. Every negative stereotype about us was validated by none other than Ourselves during every Freaknic, and this coon cartoon is bringing it to a new generation of (White) kids so that they can try to emulate the foolishness and assimilate to the worst parts of our culture.

I can’t deny that the cartoon is filled with stereotypes, but what I don’t get is why some of you are offended by this, but not the stuff that actually goes on in everyday life. All I’m saying is, why waste your time complaining and crying about a cartoon when you’re not going to do anything about the similar situations that occur in real life. Although some choose to behave this way and choose to revel in ignorance, in the ridiculous and appreciate this modern day buckwheat step n’ fetchit crap, I choose to seek things that uplift us. Behavior like this needs to be corrected not celebrated. Just because it happens doesn’t make it right. In the 20′s, 30′s 40′s, etc we had little choice in the roles we were offered and little opportunity to do our own thing. However, there was a constant struggle to improve our image and to show positive, educated black people on tv. It’s very sad that now in 2010 after the struggle of our people to fight for these opportunities for us, that this is what we do and defend…smh…wow how sad. We really have to do better.

why are people crying about a cartoon when their children watch videos. This cartoon was on during a time when children should have been in bed, but videos are on all day long. There is just about the same amount of ass and people acting a fool on videos as there was during Freaknik back in the day. Women walking around in skirts with their ass out, and bikinis. Am I talking about videos or Freaknik? Men with their hands all over a woman’s ass like it was their woman. Am I talking about videos or Freaknik? When you really think about it the only differences are videos are on television all day for children and white folks to judge blacks anytime they want, and Freaknik was a time in our past when blacks got a little out of hand hence the key phrase “our past”. Every race has a past they are not proud of including whites. Black folks will never be able to rise and move forward until they learn to see the past for what it really is, a learning experience and the knowledge of what we can become when we stand together as one. Then and only then will names and sterotypes will only be just that.

The cartoon was a look at what happened in our past and what is going on right now in the present. If you don’t see anything wrong with your children watching videos then you shouldn’t have a problem with your children watching this cartoon.

Whats fascinating about this is not the coonery, the the acceptance of it. I.E. its just a cartoon, its for adults ect… I worked as a living history teacher back in Texas to put myself through school. Once while discussing a former slave home I had a little white kid no more than 10 asked “Do you watch the P.J.s?” I told him that I have seen it once or twice. Then he asked “Is that what the projects are really like?” His Mom waited for me to answer. Fortunately, my experience as a teacher kicked in rather than my emotions. I simply responded, that the P.J.swas just as real as the Simpsons. My point is simple.

When we allow such coonery even the slightest such as this, we are contributing to the further decline of the Black condition. If we want a future without sterotypes we muts stamp down hard on things such as this. This is not a simple cartoon, it is a trojan horse. Those who can not see that or see it innocent might as well load up their forties, fried chicken, blunts, saggy pants, and 24 inch rims and get back to picking cotton now.

Everyone is going to have their opinions about how to look at this cartoon….honestly I thought it was a hot mess….But this goes back to if you want to be treated a certain way and to be respected you must show respect for yourself. Is it Art? Is it an examination of our culture? Is it suppose to convey a social message? Is it positive or negative? Is it necessary? Is it even entertainment? What is so great about all this is you can answer yes and no to those questions. Some people found the TV show Amos and Andy very offensive and others didn’t. If you are in the entertainment business or very close to people who are, you have a different perception about what is art and what is not. I find some parts of this video offensive. When you call our beautiful black women b***hes and hoes it gets my dandruff up! I have a granddaughter, a daughter, sisters and nieces that I tell all the time; “do not let anybody objectify you or try to devalue you by addressing you in that manner”. I also find offensive when our women backsides are over exaggerated for the purpose of humor and not for the sensuality of attraction. Much like the early cartoon depiction of black men with oversize eyes and big red lips. I don’t understand why any woman would not find that offensive and would let their children hear or see that and think it is ok. I don’t judge how others raise their kids and what values they try to instill but I have learned that common sense is not so common! I just wish we could be more ingenious or creative enough to make entertaining material without interjecting stereotypical, devaluing, self degrading images and words just to make a buck. That to me is the ultimate sell out!

After reading some of the comments it is very interesting that a lot of people are saying “if you don’t like it turn the channel” what a (pardon my French) a crazy ass suggestion”. Have you ever seen the bumper sticker “ USA like or leave it” Do you think for one second that if you close your eyes just before you crash into a wall with your car that the wall will somehow disappear. For those of you that thought this was coonery, I ask if you’ve ever been to FREAKNIK?!??! It was basically three to seven days (depending on when you got to GA) of straight COONERY, hedonism and ignorance. What else did you expect from a cartoon about it? Calm down and in the words of SoulOnIce86, it’s no worse than BET’s original programming.

South Park has a lot of zany sh*t…but in the end there is a message to convey…a reason to WHY certain things were done…Same thing with the boondocks….thats Satire…Thats why the writing is considered so good…Just because these shows have the same level of craziness doesn’t mean that they achieved the same message…So in the end…what was freaknik trying to say?…..exactly…its either a satire or its basic television…it can’t be both. This was not a satire because it didn’t bring any means of improvement…duh…

If you found the show funny…ok cool….So making a mockery out of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Insinuating the use of racial slurs towards white people,child neglect, and n*ggas being n*ggas is funny to you…for some reason that just don’t seem sane….

Telling people to ignore it is funny too…your basically saying its ok to praise it for little reason but its wrong to criticize it for more serious reasons….that are actually valid…doesn’t make sense either…and ignoring a problem is the creation of another problem…

I saw other users actually advocate this shows stereotyping with other shows such as ROADTRIP…here’s the problem…the stuff your stereotyping for those white people are not publicly known stereotypes…in fact…to them they arn’t even considered stereotypes…so it doesn’t effect them…and even if it did…your basically saying “hey if they make fools of themselves so can we”…which sounds stupid doesn’t it?

And BET is horrible…if your saying its no worse than BET than all your doing is concurring with what the others are saying when they state how bad this sh*t is… I find a lot of people are advocating one piece of dumb sh*t with another…”Oh these people say what up n*gga so its all good…oh but some black people do act like this so its ok…oh they have booty videos on tv… so this isn’t as bad…” damn are you guys serious? Don’t you realize that THAT particular way of thinking is completely illogical. Its basically saying…”hey i don’t mind ignorance as long as its already out there and others are a part of it”…. dumb…

In the end…this show had no message…so therefore defending the means of the show is fruitless…Since there was no message, but a whole lot of general stereotypes being flushed out i think people have a good reason to be upset at the broadcast…If you don’t find anything wrong with the show then thats cool too, but you can’t criticize others finding fault with the show when you have nothing but nonsense to base your logic on.

T-Pain’s show is pure ignorance. We have regressed as a group of people. We are the only group of people who defile and defame our women. We deny our heritage with self-hate and we are self-destructive. What kind of legacy are we leaving our children? The show is not a cartoon — it’s a “coontoon”. Absolutely shameful and unacceptable!

I’m a 50 years old Black Man attending an accelerated school to obtain my Associates Degree in Network Security. I say this to make a point. The Black students that are in some of my classes on average, have been out of High School anywhere from .5 to 10 years. And they are some of the stupidest, most ignorant young blacks that I’ve ever met before in my life. What’s the term you use…GHETTO?!?

They whine about homework, they whine about class work, but the topper happened today. A quiz was given where the instructor before giving the quiz, went over the entire quiz before handing it out.
SHE GAVE THE ANSWERS TO EVERY QUESTION! And as soon she finished going over the questions and correct answers, she started handing out the quiz. But wait, it gets even better.

Some of these a**hole said “No, give us more time to study.”
It was a 10 question quiz, “True or False” quiz.
And the most popular statement that was made after the quiz was given was, “At least my GPA will go up.”

It very apparent that our educational system is failing Black America, and its happening on a scope and level never seen before in this country’s history.

These are the people that will be watching this program. I normally watch Boondocks, but I couldn’t stomach 30 seconds of that crap. And if you don’t know…A WHITE MAN OWNS THE STATION…NIGGA!

Education hasn’t failed Black America, it’s the trifling and sorry ass parents. Think back when your were in school, parents made sure you do your homework every night. Parent encourage their children to bring home good grades, and discipline them with failing grades. Now, these days, some parents don’t care whether their can read within their grade level. Some of these trifling parent uses the education system as a glorified babysitter. Now schools have to provide breakfast and lunch; because, educators realizes being fed at school is the only chance for some children receive meals.

I also employed at a institution of higher education, and listening to some of the students whining and complaining how some of the instructors aren’t allowing them to complete assignments past the original due date. I constantly explaining them that they are being prepared to enter the workforce, and they need to learn about honoring deadlines. When they enter the workforce, no supervisor or boss want to hear excuses why your projects aren’t completed. My baby was sick, I had to go to a funeral,or I was sick. I constantly tell these students you will be out of a job, if you constantly coming up with excuses for missing deadlines.

As for the cartoon, what do you expect from a man whom wrote “I’m in love with a stripper!” not a Black woman with education, not a Black woman with ambitions,goals, and dreams, not a Black woman with a job or career. But a stripper!!! What do we expect from him, nothing!!! What’s really sad, that little girls are some focus on learning the latest dance moves, instead reading about history. This is sad!!!

I dont care what noone say. Someone got something 2 say or they got 2 hate on what someone got, That’s why we dont have real ass nigga’s in da world rite today.

If y’all teachers spent more time teaching instead of talking amongst each other, and teach like I was taught, maybe so many kids wouldn’t have to have T-Pain for their educator.

Man…People always complain about stereotypes and coonery on these sites and pretend to be these black militants, knowing damn well outside of posting here, they really aren’t. I personally enjoyed the show for what it was, and i will watch it next time they show it. Some of you can continue to be silly little part time militants and complain about everything, while the rest of us will continue to enjoy this thing we call life.

I understand the concept and the idea, but I was not entertained or pulled in by the artwork of this cartoon. When I was younger I might enjoyed this, but as I get older in my life I can see this cartoon is clowning us as Black People. It was exactly what I expected it to be. Colorful, loud, noisy, and funny.

3 things I liked about it…..

1) the symbolism between ‘Freaknik’ in all-black/green moving like a ghost, symbolic of melanin, dark-matter etc… think the ‘venom-suit’ from spiderman.

2) Carl Jones artistic style, he’s one of Aaron McGruder’s(Boondocks creator) peoples. being shown on Adult Swim he probly got a nice check off this project + promotion with all the rappers involved

3) clowning all these fugazzi broke-back rappers AND these fake uncle tom so-called negro leaders who are on massah’s payroll, aka Boule’
