‘Fresh Prince’ Co-Star Disses Will Smith!
Forner Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Janet Hubert, aka Aunt Viv, has penned a tell-all memoir that lashes out at Will Smith for sabotaging her and other actors who worked on the hit comedy.
The 53-year-old actress was fired from the show in 1993 and replaced by actress Daphne Maxwell Reid. Her book “Perfection Is Not A Sitcom Mom” will be released in early 2010.
Here are some explosive excerpts from the book via BVBuzz:
On Will Smith sabotaging his co-stars: “Smith had people around him who made sure no one outshone him. I was happy to see Don Cheadle become the quality actor that he is, and often wondered how he made it past one episode, as Hilary’s boyfriend, being such a fierce actor. No one could be on The Tonight Show, that first season, except Will. And I mean no one.”
On a guest star being too impressive an an early rehearsal: “I recall the lovely and incredibly talented Countess Vaughn coming to guest star. Oh my God! The day of table read, she was pee-in-your-pants funny. The writers were howling, we were howling, so I knew she was history – banished into the cornfield. Many years later, after she had her own show, I had to tell her when she asked me why. ‘Miss Janet why did I get cut from the episode,’ she asked? Simply, my darling, you were too good.”

« Previous 1 2 3“Aunt Viv” has been saying this for years, but nobody listened because they “LOVE” Will Smith. People tend to forget how many actors made guest appearances on that show. And some have JUST NOW made it big, like Don Cheadle. I like Will Smith but I also recognize the reality about Hollywood and actors…..they are acting! Just like Jada….even 2Pac couldn’t tame her. Then did anybody else but me notice how everytime Will changed girlfriends in real life he changed girl friends on screen. Tyra Banks, Nia Long, etc. With Will & Jada as a Hollywood juggernaut you would think that they would exec produce some more black shows than we see now. At least Kelsey Grammer helped us out with The Game…o yea they canceled that too.
I believe Will has a color complex. Just look at his track record. His first son’s mother was very light and Jada is very light as well. I think it is clearly disrespectful to make jokes about dark skin, especially with her on the set.
I am sooo Glad that television is strictly entertainment. I am sorry to heat aunt viv was fired. I wondered what happened to her. I can’t say the chemistry was there with the wonderful lady they replaced her with. As for Will’s success. I can not say he was the master mind behind his success. The industry is fierce. Either you have it or you are that one hit wonder. I am a fan always will be. Yet to me it is a fantasy world that I only see as entertainment.
All of you guys are wrong, check this out when you write a book how do you get sales? You say something negative about one the actor and you book will sell like hotcakes…Don’t pay any attention to aunt viv she had her chance and blew it asking for more money than she was worth and she got fired for it plain and simply…
in a way i feel, ‘aunt vi’ but at the same time, will did what he had to do in order to get where he is and the story was based on his character, hello, listen to the damn theme song. ‘aunt vi’ was boring as hell and aggravating. my opinion only, will made those actress and actresses who they were. take ‘ashley’ for instance, will brought her out, when he did that, that was her cue to make it the rest of the way not for will to make it for her.
i hate to hop on the bandwagon but I believe Hubert’s story about Smith from what I’ve heard about how he’s done people in Philly. Success can easily go to someone’s head when they have the power to make things happen or un-happen. Alot of people are afraid to admit their hero or idol is such a negative person. That’s why I often am not interested in meeting celebs I look up to. The disappointment can be crushing.
My only defense for Smith is that after listening to the clip of the interview, it was obvious, Hubert had very little sense of comedic ac**en. She thought she was in a Cosby-like show because it centered around an affluent black family and expected the show to reflect all kinds of respect for black women. Fresh Prince was more broad comedy than Cosby was. The fact that she didn’t understand that for the La Maz scene made me question maybe she was a little jealous of Vanessa Williams who was also in the scene. It’s possible she may have been replaced for being so confrontational and self-righteous.
Very Profound Rhyme 198…it boils down to this, one man’s gain is another man’s loss! Just that simple.
first of all you people with yall negative asses are some haters dont be mad cause you not on the smith train she was an arrogant wench anyway grow up and go read a book and stop hating on people who deserve what they have
You think Will is nasty, huh wife Jada is no cake walk either! The two of them are witch hazel and dick dasteredly the gruesome twosome. She has stepped on a few people in Baltimore on her way to L.A. Will has stomped on even more floks in Philly. But you what goes around comes around!
This is not hate but honestly I am not surprised at all. What amazes me is that people cannot accept that someone may be a dick just because they like them. For the love of God, how do you think he GOT famous in the first place? People who succeed to that degree don’t do it with a amazing smile and great charm; they do it by stepping on anyone who can make them look bad. Just like the people on your job who the bosses love but your co-workers know are total douchebags.
i throught he was like that
i used to watch the show faithfully but once she was taken off, i did not watch it anymore. i thought she was a wonderful actress that was very funny and talented. if she needs to vent about what took place in her career so be it. i wish her the best and i hope that oneday she will have her own show.
