Chaka Khan would be a very difficult artist to pay tribute to. Miles didn’t like, she does indeed sing like his horn. Chaka’s sweet timbres (‘Smokin’ Room’, ‘Close the Door’, ‘Night Moods’), her perfect screams (‘Ain’t Nobody’, ‘Tell Me Something Good’) and her TEXTURES, how she can swing between them so deliciously? Not many people have the passion let alone any sense of vocal technique AND freedom to sing like Chaka.

Erykah, Ledisi and Angie? Yawn. Fantasia’s own work may be subpar but she can cover funk/soul classics like a Master. Her rougher scream was hot and you could see Chaka was feeling it! Joi would have been funky enough to pull of a tribute (she did well on her ‘I’m A Woman’ cover on her ‘Star Kitty’s Revenge’ album).

My fav Chaka moment is with Rufus on the track ‘Best Of Your Heart’. I think maybe, MAYBE Jill Scott could have pulled it off :)

The highlight was Fantasia and Chaka distinct wail – sing on, Siren! Mx

For candynipp, Chaka won 10 Grammys from 1975-2008, the first for “Tell me Something Good”. She received 4 American Music Award nominations in 1981-1985 as well. I hardly call that invisible.
