Per usual Chris Rock makes a dollar at da xxpense of Black people! Nothing is sacred in Chris’ self denegrading and self hatred. You don’t see Adam Sadler making fun of his culture… This is not an argument/issue between pookie and tequisha. The true issue is having respect for self and those who are positive influences in the Black community. When we disrespect our own we say its ok for others to follow suit. We must hold our leaders accountable. But by the same token, in order for them to be effective, we must hold them in the highest regard. You would never hear a tea-bagger degrading Palin. But TRUE respect is obviously asking too much of Chris.

It’s ironic that a good portion of the money that Chris makes specifically chiding black women for wearing wigs and hairpieces have photos of WHITE MEN in wigs (i.e. George Washington, Jefferson, etc..). In fact, at one point there was an entire “whig” political party. However, I digress. In all honesty, I’m mixed on my opinion about his comments. I actually think it’s hard for a Black man in the public eye to openly state that he finds the first lady attractive, well kept, appropriate, etc… For some reason I see men struggling with that. In fact, Hillary wears a hair piece yet no one seems preoccupied with that. Interestingly, tons of high profile white women wear wigs and weaves (ex: Dolly, Paula Dean, Gwyneth, Angelina, most of them. Wait..they call them “extensions” so that makes it different) yet they’re not held to the same standard as BW. It’s also interesting that some men have commented that “black women have no self respect…want to be white”, etc… Well, the good news is that women around the globe view hair as a sign of being alluring and feminine. It’s part of the mating game. The bad news is that we still live in a world where BW are still fighting to regain a softer and more feminine image. However, the really good news is that the reality for all of society is that if it had not been for BLACK women taking care of everybody, including the Black men who mysteriously seem to now hate us, there would be no society. Thus, while you can criticize us until the cows come home (we’re no more perfect than any other group of women), please don’t compare us to white women. We don’t want to be them, we don’t envy them, they’ve done nothing spectacular for us to look up to, and, unless a Black man has money and resources,we can see clearly that they don’t like you any more than they like us. Oh, btw Chris, I hope that your next film is going to be about the multi-billion dollar tanning industry because there’s clear evidence that white women are doing any and everything to modify their skin tone so that they can appear as dark as possible. I mean, if you’re got jokes, you got jokes, right? Let everybody laugh! :) Michelle is a full fledged mature woman whom I respect. Thus, I suspect that she’ll be wearing her hair as she pleases so more power to her! FYI: Black women in America are finally free. Wear your hair anyway that you please and feel good about it. See, this is the reason why I did not like the DVD “Good Hair”. I am a African American female that does not wear weave, but I feel like of all women, Black woman do it best. In “Good Hair” I felt that Chris Rock left out all the talent perspectives of our hair and the culture of Black Hair, but instead he poked fun at it. He wasted time and money because the DVD only broadened the audience that stereotypes Black women. Why didn’t he use that DVD to actually explain our culture. I just got back from Dallas and there was an open mic comedy club I went to. Keep in mind that the place was 98% white! This jig comes on stage (sounding very suburban, not the least hood) talking about “what if Batman were black?” Then he talked about “negroes” (he used that word) and crime. He said something to the effect that “n****rs will shoot.” Of course I do not remember his “jokes” as I found none. Hell, even the whites were stunned and everyone was silent. They had 3 minutes, but this guy left in under 2. He was not funny and all he did was talk s**t about blacks for no reason at all.

I was embarrassed and I know he was afterwords. How can you get on stage with a mostly white crowd and just put black people down? I hope he realizes that he does not have a career. I also realized that many “comedians” just get into it as a way to break into show business and to get a show or host something.

At this point I am glad to hear that most on this website agree with me. I have never found Chris Rock funny. I did like his role in Jungle Fever and he did an OK job in one of Eddie Murphy’s movies, but his humor is so self deprecating to his own race. The issue here is that Chris is not funny. He has become somewhat of a social commentator on what he perceives as the ills of Blacks that many whites love to quote. It just really manifested itself in this very unfunny joke about the first lady. I got the feeling that even the white Brit he was talking to did not find it funny.

In addition I would love to see some of the so called new black comedians come on a channel and do jokes that are not racial. thye seem not to have the creativity nor confidence to be funny otherwise. Many have been successful without depending solely on racial stereotype jokes including Bill Cosby, Nipsy Russel, even Redd Foxx , though dirty did not do a lot of racial jokes.
