Common

Common got his S.A.G. card. Baby, he’s an actor.

After appearing in roles in the Steve Carrell/Tina Fey comedy Date Night and starring opposite Queen Latifah in Just Wright, Common is looking to transition from movie roles to television.

The rapper, who is probably making way more loot from these acting roles than for his albums, has been cast in the upcoming AMC network’s television western series “Hell On Wheels.”  Common will portray Elam, a freed half-white, half-black slave in the show which centers around the building of the Transcontinental Railroad.

“Common brings a layered intensity to a very complex role,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s VP of programming. “This part required someone who can transcend the stereotypes of the period and bring the character to life in a truly unique way, and he brings that.”

Lately i’ve only seen him in nothing but big action flicks.

I wonder why he would want to play a slave?? Broaden his range?? If he plays the role too good, he may get typecast. Being typecast has killed many actors’ careers.

This is good; I like Common. I just hope he’s been in acting class since “Just Wright”.

are u seriously retarded??? did u not learn about slavery in school??? white slave masters raped the black women so they could have more slaves, especially since shipping slaves from Africa was banned in the early 1800’s. they didn’t see the mix child as their children just as property i take it you have never seen the movie roots… smh!!!

i think we should play all images that are true to our struggle. slavery did exist and for better and for worse it s a part of who we are. plus there wasnt a black president during that time period, so he really couldnt play one.

I doubt that the slave was enslaved because he was half White. Hmm…….So, where’s the honesty?

Blacks rather should concentrate on playing presidents than playing slaves.

Considering his disdain for inter-cultural relationships, I wonder how he’s enjoying playing a cross-cultural man? I wonder if anyone will ask him, lol…
