The makers of  the hit web show ThatsWhatsUp! have been getting overwhelming positive and negative feedback to their new animated series “Ol’ Heads”. The show is a depiction of 2 old black men, Jasper &  Ezekial, who always attempt to school Young Rico (the ‘pull ya pants up thug’) about his history…the real black history.

The show has lampooned such things as The Underground Railroad, Malcom X’s name change, and even they’re own rendition of the Jesus and Mary story.

The creative comedy team being compared to The Dave Chapelle Show or The Boondocks for their brash take on black life, have been taking some nasty hits from the public (especially Urban Daily readers) since the show debuted in Black History Month. Some comments have gotten alittle extreme, such as calling for a modern day lynching of the shows creators, or racists throwing salt in the wound. Check these comments out…

One of the shows writers, “Thee Kevin Powell”, had this to say recently, while visiting our NY office; “Ol’ Heads is meant not to disrespect any black icon or parts of black history. Its a satire about those old guys in every hood that you see sitting on the corner, poppin’ shit everyday” (circa Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing”). Powell goes on to say; “Its also a wake up call to everyone who is a young hater now. If you don’t check that, you’ll just end up an ‘ol’ ass hater'”

Show animator/producer, Romeo Vincent added; “Satire or comedy are used to free us from our stress, sorrows, anger, etc. The day after 911, damn near everything in the New York city closed down except the comedy clubs. We do more to spark our kids interest in our history, than the schools we send them to nowadays. I had to teach my 16yr old son about Malcolm X, because the schools never even touched base on him”.
