Singer Teedra Moses signed to Rick Ross‘ Maybach Music Group about a month ago and is already set to release her debut for the label, the Luxurious Undergrind mixtape, this summer. Moses’ official sophomore album, The Lioness, will be released later this year.
“This is going to be the first mixtape I grab a lot of features for, which I normally don’t do,” Teedra told Billboard.com. ” The attention that will be on this mixtape will be the same as the attention that would be on a sophomore album [therefore] I’m putting all my efforts to making this like Drake did. He made a mixtape so great that it could have been an album. That’s what I want to do.”
Teedra, who had a hit single in 2004 with “Be Your Girl,” may not seem like the type of artist that would sign to Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, but she says that because the label doesn’t operate like major labels, she feels it’s a perfect fit.
“With me everything is about vibe. If you believe in me and I believe in you, that’s a sign, and that’s what happened with Rick Ross and me. Maybach music is all about hard work. It’s not corporate, ‘oh that’s not the single, let’s try this or let’s try that.’ With Maybach if you believe you have something you work it. You get out in the streets and work it. Then they can’t deny when people take to it. That’s an operation I can roll with. I’m not being asked to come outside of who I am.”
