Ashanti became famous on Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc Record label but was almost signed to Bad Boy. When Ashanti was just 14 years of age, she performed one of Mary J. Blige’s hits for Diddy and The Notorious BIG, which lead to her to signing a development deal with Bad Boy Entertainment. (Is that why she was so comfortable singing over B.I.G’s “One More Chance” remix for “Foolish”?)However, Ashanti decided to sign with Jive records but the execs there did not believe that Ashanti could be a successful pop artist. She eventually signed with Murder Inc in 2001 and became the star we see today.
