Once upon a time at Def Jam, there hailed two princesses: Rihanna and Teairra Mari, both with Jay-Z’s co-sign.

While these ladies fell under separate imprints, (Teairra on Roc-A-Fella and Rihanna with Island Def Jam), in 2005 King Jay presented to the court the singers and proclaimed they were full of promise.

Teairra Mari brought that bang with her hit single “Make Her Feel Good” and Rihanna put it down in her Caribbean style with “Pon de Replay.” As both singles hit the airwaves only one remained beside the Jigga man, Rihanna. Unfortunately, Teairra was unceremoniously dropped from the label before her high school graduation.

Rihanna has since gone on to release six albums and will star in her first film to be released in spring of 2012, Battlefield.

After getting dropped, Teairra Mari we heard nothing until she came back in 2009. Since being back in the mix she released four mixtapes and an EP titled “Sincerely Yours” with Warner Brothers.

As for movies, Teairra has done that already, starring as Bow Wow’s vixen in Lottery Ticket. And while Rihanna may still reign at Island Def Jam, Teairra is inching toward building a fortress of her own.

Proof? Well, with her recent contract deal with Rico Love’s Division1 label and joining the cast of “Love and Hip Hop,” Teairra may reclaim her crown.

Teairra may have a few laps to run before catching up to Rihanna but she may not be far behind with her persistence.
