And in this day and age where social media has become the true voice of culture, Marcus Troy is already two steps ahead.

Is This City As Upscale As Montreal?

Why did you decide to start your own blog?

I had an online magazine that was about sharing information with my audience. It was a local thing, documenting what was happening in the city of Montreal. MarcusTroy.com was an extension of that and who I was. And I just started it as a necessity to keep my readers involved.

How would you define your style?

Wow, I get asked this question a lot and it changes all the time. My style represents a few things. It’s a huge component of fashion and function. I like wearing boots, but I like my boots to be Gortex, in case it snows. My pants sometimes might be water resistant.

Do you feel that being from Montreal has contributed to your love of fashion?

Yes, I believe that Montreal did contribute to my love for style. Montreal is known as one of the fashion capitals in the world because of our European affiliations. I travel and see new places; it all comes together to make my style. I used to travel to New York and I was always inspired by the trends and styles happening there. I’ve always had an affinity for other places. I consider myself a global citizen. I’ve been fortunate to see the world.

What are your favorite spots to eat at in New York?

I love Café Havana. I have recently been eating at Miss Lillies. The new spot. The steak at the Tribeca Grand Hotel is phenomenal.

Montreal is such an upscale city. Is there a ‘hood out there?

There are hoods out here (laughs). There’s a huge misconception that there’s no hood out here. Some of the hoods out here, it gets pretty violent. They just decided to be bad and follow certain trends, I think. We have a lot more options here. Our education is free. The hospital is free. We don’t need to live that lifestyle.

What music are you listening to? What’s in your iPod right now?

I listen to hip-hop and R&B. I’m listening to Take Care. Someone sent me the link, but I am going to buy it and support.

Is this love for Drake a Canadian thing?

No (laughs). I was an early adopter of Drake, I would tell anyone who would listen about him. On my blog or my Twitter I always talk about how dope Drake is. Back then 2003-2004, no one really cared back then. I’ve always been a fan of Drake. I just support the team. I’m definitely proud of him as a Canadian though.

Why do you think you were picked for the G-List?

I’m always humbled and appreciated when people select me for the sort of influencers (lists). I’m not sure, but I’ve always believed to keep my head low and keep doing what I’m doing. I work with a lot of different brands. I can’t tell you why, but I believe that the universe aspires to work in my favor.
